Chapter 306: Leaving Chen Manor
Chapter 306: Leaving Chen Manor
It was around four in the early morning and the world outside was still covered in darkness. Yet, Xiang Ling’s bed-chamber was filled with the soft, warm glow of candles while she packed up her stuff from the room and stored them inside her space.
She contemplated a lot whether she should wait until everyone woke up, or just leave before that, but considering how emotional she got during the dinner while she unknowingly wished everyone farewell, she wasn’t looking forward to having another emotional segment with the people of Chen Manor.
She was almost finished with packing up when she heard soft knocking on the door. Since she wasn’t expecting anyone to be awake at this hour, she was slightly surprised. Taking in a deep breath, she opened the door and found Xu Wei standing there.
"Xiao Wei?"
"Master, are you really leaving?" The man asked immediately as he stared at Xiang Ling with wide eyes.
"Sssh!" Xiang Ling quickly signaled him to stop speaking and quickly looked around the courtyard to make sure that no one heard him. "Come inside." She ushered the young man inside her room before she quickly closed the door.
"I thought you will change your mind, but you are still doing it." Both anger and fear could be heard clearly in Xu Wei’s voice as he looked at her with pleading eyes.
Xiang Ling let out a small sigh as she walked up to the wooden table sitting in the center of her room and poured the warm water in one of the cups. She picked up the cup and drank the water in one single sip. Next, she picked up another cup and poured the water in it before she walked up to the young man and handed the cup to him. "Here. Have some warm water."
Xu Wei was ready to decline the water, but when Xiang Ling forced the cup in his hand, he quickly gulped down the water before returning the cup on the table. "I have finished it. Can we talk now?" He asked while looking at Xiang Ling with an unimpressed look on his face.
"What do you want to talk about? Didn’t I already told you that I have made my decision?" Xiang Ling asked as she folded her hands across her chest and pointed her gaze at the young man.
"But have you informed the Young Masters or anyone else in the Chen family about this insane decision of yours? If you are not going to change your mind, then I’ll inform everyone in this Manor about what you are planning to do. I don’t care even if I have to get punished after that." Xu Wei didn’t even hold back from threatening his own Master. He was that desperate to stop her from getting entangled in the mess between the Five Realms and the Shadow Lord.
"Go ahead."
"..."
Xu Wei wasn’t expecting his Master to suddenly grant him the permission to tell everyone about her plan. The look on her face made him realize that something was very wrong, he just couldn’t put his finger on it.
"I’m allowing you to do as you want. If you want to tell everyone about my plan of joining the Cultivation Sects in their mission of eradicating the Dark Force, then you can go ahead and do it. I’m not going to stop you." Xiang Ling explained in the calmest voice possible. Looking at her face, it was hard to tell what she was thinking inside her mind.
"Are you thinking that I will not do it? I will seriously tell... tell everyone..."
The rest of the words that Xu Wei wanted to say never came out of his mouth as he started breathing heavily all of a sudden. His eyes became heavy as if he was about to lose his consciousness and his body staggered a little. He turned his stunned and confused gaze at Xiang Ling right before he lost his consciousness.
Xiang Ling immediately caught him before he could have fallen on the floor. She dragged him toward the bed before she made him lie on it. Since he was quite heavy, it did took her some effort. Once she was done, she took a seat at the edge of the bed as she spoke in a soft voice, one that was filled with regret. "I’m sorry, Xiao Wei. I know that I shouldn’t have done this, but I’m doing it for your own good. Sleep now. When you will wake up, I will be long gone. Live a good life from now on, and protect yourself well."
She took out a big wooden box and an envelope from her space and placed it on the bed next to the pillow. With one last look at the man, she stood up and started walking toward the door. It was time for her to leave the Chen Manor before anyone else could notice what she was up to.
Honestly, she wasn’t initially planning to join in the Mortal Realm’s mission of finding the Dark Force, but when she learned from Zhang Xuan that her life tribulation was coming to an end, she changed her mind.
Joining the Cultivation Sects on their hunt would not only put the much needed distance between her and the Chen family, but it would also become the perfect way to shield the mystery of her death. Chen family only needed to know that she was gone, they didn’t need to witness it happening in their own house.
She was almost near the door when she suddenly stopped in her tracks. A weird buzzing sound filled her ears before her vision started becoming blurry. Darkness surrounded her as her breathing became heavy. Confusion and fear took over her as she realized that she was about to lose consciousness.
She quickly turned around to look around the room, but other than the already unconscious Xu Wei, there was no one else there. She heard the door opening behind her, but before she could have turned to take a look, the darkness was already taking over her.
