Chapter 293: The Next Plan of Chaos
Chapter 293: The Next Plan of Chaos
The winter season was slowly coming to its end after the festivities of Lunar New Year wrapped up and everyone returned to their normal lives. The world was still covered in the thick layer of snow and there was still no hint of greenery. But the beautiful season of spring was just on the brink.
"My Lord." Huang Jun greeted the man hidden behind the hood of the long cloak he was wearing.
"You failed again." The hooded man stated as he kept his back facing the Scorpion. His voice was deviod of any feelings, making it hard to understand whether he was angry or not.
Huang Jun immediately kneeled down on the snow covered ground and clasped his hands together in front of him as he bowed deeply. "It was Young Lady Chen, My Lord. She interfered with our plan once again-" He trailed off when the cloaked man suddenly turned to face him and his powerful dark aura hit Huang Jun across the face like a hard slap.
"Don’t push the blame of your incompetence on Young Lady Chen. Even if she has been purposely interfering with your plans, you should have come up with a plan to keep her occupied to complete your mission." The cloaked man spoke in a deadly voice that made Huang Jun shiver in terror.
"B-but My Lord, you ordered us not to harm Young Lady Chen." He tried to defend himself, a fruitless attempt that did nothing to calm the anger of the cloaked man.
"Indeed. But I didn’t stop you from creating distractions for her. You could have done a lot to keep her occupied while you were initiating your missions. But you proved just how useless and stupid you are again and again."
Huang Jun quickly kowtowed as he tried to beg for forgiveness. "Forgive me, My Lord. Give me one more chance and I will-"
"I have given you countless chances, Huang Jun!" The cloaked man’s deep and angry voice echoed in the silence. "You have failed in every single attempt at causing trouble in the Mortal Realm. At this point, we don’t have time for any more failures."
"My Lord-"
"Go and recieve you punishment. Someone else will take over this task from now on." The cloaked man ordered and a horrified look took over Huang Jun’s face. The Scorpion knew exactly what kind of punishment was awaiting him. He pleaded again and again, only for the Shadow Lord to send him away with a mere flick of his sleeve.
The area became silent for a moment or two before two figures materialized there, an old man who seemed to be in his late fifties and a young man who was in his mid twenties.
"My Lord."
The two greeted the cloaked man with deep bows before they stood up straight. It was the old man who spoke first. "My Lord, you finally decided to stop running from us. Do you know how worried the two of us were when you suddenly ran away?" He sounded more like an elder who was reprimanding a child.
"Old Mu, why are you being so unreasonable? Don’t you know that His Lorship always has his reasons?" The Young man was quick to voice out his disapproval with the old man’s words.
As soon as Old Mu heard the young man’s words, he turned his shocked gaze toward the latter. "Well done, Junghui. You really know how to play the good guy. Weren’t you the one calling his lordship names all these past months while we were searching for him?"
A terrified look took over Junghui’s face as he quickly looked at the Shadow Lord and hurriedly shook his head to deny Old Mu’s accusations. "No, My Lord. This old man is lying. I will never dare to do something so audacious. Never!"
"You-"
"Alright!" The cloaked man finally spoke, silencing the other two who immediately closed their mouths and didn’t dare to even breathe loudly. "I know that I made you both worry, but as Xiao Hui said - I had my reasons. Right now, I’m giving you two a task. Prepare for our next attack. This time, there should be no mistakes. We will give the realms a big surprise this time, one that they will not be able to ignore."
Old Mu and Junghui shared a quick look with each other before the former asked. "Whom or what are we targeting this time, My Lord?"
The cloaked man turned away from the two men to face the other side of the vast land in front of him that was covered in snow. Despite the hood that was covering his face, his eyes were able to see past the lands, fields, frozen rivers, forests and mountains. Hundreds and thousands of miles away, he saw his next targets.
A smile curved the corners of his lips as he saw the vision of his next attack succeeding. "We are going to shake the powerhouse of this very Realm. Only this way, the other Realms will be forced to interfere."
His words were met with silence and he realized that there was something those two men were afraid to speak to him. "Go ahead. Speak what’s on your mind." He told the two.
Old Mu and Junghui once again shared a quick look among them before the latter voiced out the concern they had about their next mission. "My Lord, what to do if Young Lady Chen once again interfe-"
"Don’t worry." The cloaked man spoke before Junghui could have finished his question. He knew exactly what they were asking for. "Leave her to me. This time, I will personally make sure that she will be occupied during our mission. You both only need to focus on successfully executing the mission."
"Yes, My Lord." Both Old Mu and Junghui bowed again as they accepted the order and took their leave, disappearing into thin air.
The cloaked man remained standing there alone for a while before he too headed to his next destination.
The peace between the five realms, that had lasted for over fifty thousand years, was about to end soon.
