Chapter 275: Upset Wife
Chapter 275: Upset Wife
Xiang Ling stretched her limbs as she stepped out of the bed-chamber and walked toward the wooden table sitting in the open courtyard. She took a seat at the table and her gaze landed on the pavilion where she spent a very hot time the previous night.
The recollection of those memories tinted the tips of her ears bright red and she had to pat her cheeks several times to shake off the memories. As she let out a sigh, she noticed Fu Xiao stepping inside the courtyard with a tray of tea and pastries.
"My Lady, why are you sitting outside in such cold weather. It’s almost nearing sunset. It’s not good for your health to stay out in the open, and you aren’t even wearing your cloak!"
The more she spoke, the more panicked Fu Xiao became as she realized just how careless her lady was with her own health. Xiang Ling opened her mouth to tell the woman that she wasn’t feeling cold, but then stopped as she realized that her words would barely convince her.
Fu Xiao placed the tray on the table in front of Xiang Ling before she ran inside the bed-chamber and returned moments later with a cloak that she draped over Xiang Ling’s shoulders.
"Thank you, Xiao Xiao. You treat me the best." Xiang Ling thanked the young woman which made the latter smile.
Right at that very moment, Wei Guang entered the courtyard, carrying a wooden crate in one of his hands. Noticing the two women, he started heading in their direction.
"Young Master Wei." Fu Xiao greeted before she took her leave and left the husband-wife duo alone to talk.
Instead of paying any attention to the man, Xiang Ling turned her full focus on the tea that she poured for herself and started sipping.
"Xiang’er, are you mad at me?" Wei Guang asked when he finally realized that she was ignoring him on purpose.
"Do you even care? You all left me alone after what happened last night. Your nonsense words actually made me believe that I matter to you, only to find out that the truth is far different." Xiang Ling mumbled as she finished the tea of her cup and poured more for herself as if she was drinking water.
Understanding dawned over Wei Guang and a small smile appeared on his lips. He placed the wooden crate in front of Xiang Ling and opened it. Inside were pastries that attracted Xiang Ling’s focus immediately. "I didn’t want you to bother with household works today, so I decided to handle them for you. It wasn’t until this afternoon when I finally finished with all the work. After that, I decided to buy your favorite pastries from the market because I didn’t want to meet you empty handed. Still, I ended up neglecting you. I didn’t know that none of the six of us were by your side today. Please forgive me, Xiang’er."
Xiang Ling turned her gaze from the pastries to the man and let out a small sigh. How was she supposed to stay angry at him after his confession? He was only thinking about her comfort and happiness throughout the day.
"You are indeed great at this even though it seems like otherwise." She mumbled as she reached out for a pastry and took a bite. The rich flavor immediately coated her tongue and made her mood brighten in no time. Noticing that Wei Guang’s gaze hadn’t left her even for a second, she offered him the other half of the pastry.
She watched as the man inched his face closer to her hand, opened his mouth and ate the pastry from her hand. There was something about how she felt his lips brushing against the tips of her fingers that made her insides flutter. The man was good at flirting even without realizing it.
"Thank you for taking care of the household work. I don’t actually worry about it anymore because you and first sister-in-law have been doing a great job in taking care of the Manor’s affairs these past several months. Also, thank you for the pastries. I’m feeling much better now after eating them... and with your company."
Wei Guang smiled warmly in response and reached out for her hand. His big and warm hand engulfed her small and nearly cold one, and he gave it a little squeeze.
The two of them sat there for a while, enjoying tea and pastries while chatting and enjoying the last rays of sunlight as the sun reached the horizon. As the end of the sunny day arrived, Li Xian and Zhang Xuan stepped inside the courtyard together while whispering among themselves about something.
Before Xiang Ling could have listened to what they were talking about, both the men stopped as they noticed her and Wei Guang sitting at the table.
"Where did you two go today?" She enquired as soon as the two men approached the table, not even giving them enough time to sit down. While both men appeared slightly taken aback by the edge in her tone and stood there staring at her in silence, Wei Guang was smiling as he knew the fate that the rest of the husbands were going to face one after the other.
He actually started feeling grateful for returning to her side earlier than the others as it helped him in getting back on his wife’s good side. However, he wondered if the others would be this lucky or not, even if they all had a good enough reason for leaving the manor and staying out the entire day.
Zhang Xuan was the first one who pulled himself together and presented a huge bouquet of flowers to Xiang Ling that he was hiding behind his back. "After what happened last night, I wanted to show you my sincerity. So, I went to the flower fields outside the city to pick these flowers. I picked each one of these hundred flowers myself."
Xiang Ling first stared at the man and then at the giant bouquet of hundred flowers. It was a crime to not feel touched with such sincerity. Right?
"Thank you..."
Xiang Ling accepted the bouquet and signaled Zhang Xuan to take a seat. She even stood up to pour him a cup of tea.
"What do you think you are doing?" She demanded when she noticed Li Xian moving to sit beside Zhang Xuan. The man became still as if he was caught red-handed. Straightening up, he took out a wooden box from his sleeves and offered it to her.
"What’s inside?" She asked while she reached out to accept the box.
"Open it and have a look." Li Xian told her in response, sounding almost anxious which made Xiang Ling more curious to know what was inside the box. She quickly opened the box and finally got to take a look at the object inside.
"I met Zhang Xuan this morning when he was heading outside. When I asked where he was going, he told me about his plan. It made me think that I should also give you a present. So, I went to the market to buy you something." Li Xian explained with embarrassment.
"Buying a gift took you an entire day?" Xiang Ling asked, not trusting his words completely.
"It’s a custom-made. Buying anything random didn’t seem suitable even if it was expensive. So, I ended up designing the hairpin myself and even provided a hand to the craftsman in creating this hairpin. Don’t you like it, Ah Ling?"
Finding out that it wasn’t just any hairpin from the market, but one that was designed and even made by her second husband himself, Xiang Ling once again felt her anger dissipating within seconds.
She finally turned her attention to the hairpin and took it out of the box to have a closer look. It was such a fine piece of golden jewelry with intricate patterns of peach blossom flowers. There were three red stones and a green stone carved in it, making the pin look exquisite. It was indeed a really beautiful hairpin.
"Thank you." She whispered before she offered it to Li Xian and signaled him to put it on for her. A huge smile bloomed on the man’s lips as he accepted the hairpin and slid it in her hair with ease.
"So pretty."
"It looks so good."
Both Wei Guang and Zhang Xuan offered their opinions on how the hairpin looked on her, praising it. Xiang Ling smiled at them in response before she tuned at Li Xian and asked, "How am I looking?"
"Just as beautiful as I imagined." He whispered before he closed the gap between their faces and placed a soft kiss on her lips. He didn’t linger to deepen the kiss, and pulled away almost immediately.
The four of them settled down at the table and the three husbands chatted happily with their wife, making sure that she was no longer upset with them.
Everything was going perfect until Zhe Yuan decided to show up!
