Chapter 269: Six Men to Keep Happy
Chapter 269: Six Men to Keep Happy
"It seems like the door is locked from the inside." Fu Xiao concluded after assessing the main door of their Lady’s courtyard that she and An Mei failed to open.
"From the inside? That’s weird. It has never happened before. Do you think someone locked it by mistake?" An Mei asked as she once again tried to push the double doors open, but failed miserably.
"That can be the case. However, the real weird part isn’t this locked door, but the fact that the Lady and the Young Masters still haven’t stepped outside. They all are early risers." Fu Xiao pointed out.
Right at that very moment, the door of the courtyard was pulled open from the inside and Young Master Xin stepped outside.
"Young Master Xin."
Both Fu Xiao and An Mei greeted the Third Young Master who stopped in his steps when he heard their voices. "Are you two here to wake Xiang Ling?" He asked, and when the two of them nodded their heads in positive response, he added, "Don’t bother her yet. Let her sleep for a couple more hours."
Fu Xiao and An Mei quickly exchanged looks, but despite their curiosity, they quickly nodded their heads in understanding.
"Also, prepare a warm bath for when she wakes up. Ask the kitchen to prepare some tonics for her." He added some more tasks before he took his leave and left the two young women behind.
"Do you think they..."
"Stop it! We shouldn’t gossip about our Lady and Young Masters." An Mei was quick to remind Fu Xiao who appeared slightly dejected for a moment but then followed after An Mei in hurry to complete the tasks given by Young Master Xin.
Within next hour, all the Young Masters came out of the courtyard and had their breakfast before they all headed to take care of their respective business. Most of them gave Fu Xiao the same order - to not disturb Xiang Ling and let the lady sleep for a few more hours.
Hence, no servant went anywhere near Xiang Ling’s courtyard and the woman slept till late in the morning. By the time she woke up, it was already half past ten.
No one was there in her bedchamber, but a hot bath was sitting there awaiting her. A bowl of warm tonic was also sitting on the bedside table. Xiang Ling took her time to drink the tonic before she finally climbed out of the bed.
The groan of protest that left her lips was quite loud. The urge to retract her foot, that she just placed on the floor, was very powerful. She suddenly wanted to once again bury herself under the blanket and forget about the rest of the world until her body stopped aching.
She took in a deep breath before she placed her second foot on the floor and once again received the same jolt of pain that shot through her entire body. It was truly a miracle that she succeeded in making her way to the awaiting bathtub and then finally climbed into it. The warm water welcomed her sore body and that alone was enough to make her relax a bit.
She quickly took out a selected pouch of herbs from her space and added them to the bathwater. She then took out a pill and ate it before channeling her internal energy. Her body was not only sore, but it was also covered in dark red and purple marks that were left behind by her dear husbands. She was removing those marks with a spell when the door of the room opened and Fu Xiao stepped inside.
"My Lady, are you taking a bath?" The Young woman asked when she didn’t find Xiang Ling sleeping on the bed.
"I’m here." Xiang Ling called out as she finished removing the last angry mark from her shoulder.
"My Lady, why didn’t you call for me? Let me help you." Fu Xiao complained as she quickly made her way to the bathtub and started helping Xiang Ling with the bath.
"Help me wash my hair." Xiang Ling told the woman who nodded her head in acceptance of the task. As she realxed in the tub, Fu Xiao started pouring water on her hair to get them wet.
It took around forty minutes before Xiang Ling was fully dressed and ready to join her sister-in-laws for an early lunch.
"The weather is nice today." Zuan Hu commented as she took a bite of the stir-fried chicken and looked up at the clear sky where a bright sun was shining. It had been way too long since they last saw such a clear and warm day.
"It indeed is. Something nice might be about to happen today." Chao Xing replied as she dived into the fish that the kitchen prepared on her special request. Sneaking a glance at Xiang Ling, she quickly added, "Or... something nice might have happened last night. That’s why the weather is so nice today."
Xiang Ling choked on the wonton soup she was drinking. On the other hand, both Zuan Hu and Chao Xing burst out into giggles.
"Stop teasing me." Xiang Ling muttered as she picked up a wonton and thrust it into her mouth. The taste was so good that it almost made her forget about being teased by her two sister-in-laws.
"Alright. Don’t sulk. We are just happy for you. Knowing that your relations with your husbands have finally improved for the best, we can finally relax. We know that you are focused on growing our business at the moment, but you should always keep in mind that you have six men at home whom you need to keep happy." Zuan Hu tried to teach her the way of married life just like the mother figure she was in the family at the moment.
"I know." Xiang Ling said as she reached out for the stir-fried chicken. The three of them continued to chat while enjoying the food when they all heard the loud crashing sound.
