Chapter 245: Secret of Their Marriage
"I’m sure that if you will keep this a secret, no one will find out about this in future either."
These words kept repeating themselves in Xiang Ling’s mind. She knew exactly what the man was trying to say with these words. However, she tried to focus on other questions that she still wanted to ask. "Then why did you marry Chen Xiang Ling?"
"When we came to the Mortal Realm, we searched all over the place for the Shadow Lord. It was during our visit to Dongzhi City when we stumbled across Wei Guang and Li Xian. We immediately recognized their divine energies." Xin Cheng started explaining before he suddenly asked, "Do you know the fastest way of casuing the biggest chaos possible in our world?"
Xiang Ling frowned at the random question that came out of nowhere, but as she looked closely at the man for the next few moments and pondered on his words, she eventually realized what he was trying to say. However, the realization almost froze her in place just like the news of Shadow Lord’s escape did moments ago.
"Killing either the Night Immortal or the Crown Prince of the Heavenly Realm... or... killing them both."
The words felt heavy leaving her mouth and her instincts were telling her to run to her husbands and make sure that they were alright. It took quite some effort on her part to calm herself down and stay rooted in her place.
While she was struggling with her worry for the safety of her husbands, Xin Cheng nodded his head in approval of her answer. "That’s right. Though these two are currently in their mortal forms and their deaths would only result in them returning to their divine forms in the Upper Realms, there’s no denying that if someone is aware of their true identities and that person tries to kill those two, then that person can easily find a way to harm their primordial spirits. Considering everything that had been happening in the Mortal Realm, it was quite obvious that someone was, and still is, trying to stir trouble between the Upper and Lower Realms. What could be the best way of doing that other than harming two of the most powerful and influential beings of the Upper Realms?"
"Is that why you have been trying your best to keep Ah Guang and Ah Xian safe ever since you got to know about their presence in the Mortal Realm two years ago?" Xiang Ling questioned.
Xin Cheng slowly nodded his head in agreement. "We tried to protect those two from the shadows, but we soon realized that it wasn’t a good solution as the two of us also needed to look for the Shadow Lord. Eventually, we decided to marry Chen Xiang Ling to stay close to the two Immortals. We gave the woman money in return of her words to never bother the two of us. We were married only in name."
Xiang Ling didn’t expect such a story behind Chen Xiang Ling’s marriage with Xin Cheng and Dao Ming, but as she recalled some of their initial interactions, she realized that there had always been hints about their marriage being more of an agreement of some sort instead of a proper marriage.
"So... you married Chen Xiang Ling... only in name... to protect the Night Immortal and the Heavenly Crown Prince, and also to find the Shadow Lord." She took in a deep breath as she summed up the entire situation. "That was... quite smart on your part. Not only marrying her gave you the perfect ability to stay close to the two high immortals, but it also shielded your identities as no one would even dream about the Demon Emperor and the Spirit Beast King to be married to a mere mortal."
The two of them were silent for the next couple of moments, both lost in their own thoughts. It was Xiang Ling who broke the silence after a while. "So, you want to keep this matter a secret from the Upper Realms and find the Shadow Lord before anyone else can find out about the secret of his escape from the Abyssal Lands..."
She was nodding her head slowly as she voiced out the words. Then a thought suddenly appeared in her mind. "... you two have been wandering around the Realms, locating certain treasures. What are you doing exactly?"
Xin Cheng didn’t answer her question immediately. Instead, he stared at her for a while before he finally responded. "I have been interested in the Abyssal Lands’ seal for a while. Because of that, I tried to find out as much information about the seal as possible. It took me thousand of years to finally locate some credible information. A compound divine item was used during the creation of array that built the seal around the Abyssal Lands. All the items that we have been securing recently, they all are a part of that compound divine item."
"Are you sure the information you found is really credible?" Xiang Ling couldn’t help but ask as she was having doubts about it. There had been no records of the spell or the array that was used to create the seal that surrounded the Abyssal Lands. Why suddenly a hidden record would appear out of nowhere?
"I know why you are suspicious of this matter. However, I know when to trust an information. I’m sure the information I have about the seal is as reliable as possible, and we will need it to seal the Shadow Lord in the Abyssal Lands again." Xin Cheng responded as he stared straight into Xiang Ling’s eyes.
The two of them were once again silent, staring at each other. A moment or so later, the man started walking toward her and stood right in front of her before he spoke, "I have told you everything, Xiang Ling. All my secrets, especially those that can cause the destruction of my Realm and my people if used against me."
He took another step closer, barely leaving any space between them. "Now, it’s your turn. Choose your side. Choose whom you are going to support... and protect."
