"You lost on purpose."
Xiang Ling stated the obvious. She neither sounded angry nor happy, she just stared at him and waited to hear his response. What she didn’t expect was for the man to suddenly start stepping forward.
Her gaze immediately shifted from his face to the tip of her sword that was merely a breath away from piercing his chest. Realizing that he wasn’t going to stop, she hurriedly lowered the sword and finally returned her stunned gaze toward his face.
The man was now standing right in front of her, towering over her with his tall frame. The two of them stared into each other’s eyes and when he finally responded, his voice was nothing but a mere whisper - "Probably. But the only thing that matters is that you are feeling much better now."
Xiang Ling was at a total loss for words and just stared at Zhang Xuan as if he had grown another head. It took her a while to find her voice, and when she finally did find it, she decided to use it to reprimand the stupid Immortal standing in front of her.
"Have you lost your mind? What do you think you were doing just now? What if you would have gotten hurt?"
Her voice was loud and angry as she directed her questions at the man. In response, she received a small but warm smile from him. He used one of his hands to cup her face as he spoke - "I only dared to do that because I knew you will not hurt me."
If Zhang Xuan thought that his words would make Xiang Ling’s anger disperse, then he couldn’t have been more wrong. The woman only became more angry because of his words.
"Be serious, Ah Xuan. I’m not in the mood of jokes. Don’t you dare do something this stupid ever again."
Realizing that he was handling the situation in the wrong way, Zhang Xuan quickly surrendered. "Alright, alright. I promise that I will never do such a thing ever again. Don’t be mad anymore."
Xiang Ling let out a long sigh as all the anger finally started leaving her body. The sword also disappeared from her hand and she stepped away from Zhang Xuan while muttering the words to herself - "Why all the men are so stupid?"
Since she had her side facing Zhang Xuan, the man used the opportunity to hug her from the back. Wrapping his arms around her, he responded, "I can’t say anything about the rest of the men you are talking about. But as for me, I’m so stupid because I’m in love with you. Maybe my love for you is making me stupid."
"What’s wrong with you?" Xiang Ling asked after listening to the man’s cheesy words.
"I just told you - I’m in love with you." Zhang Xuan whispered right before he pressed a kiss on her cheek from behind. He then inhaled her sweet scent before burying his face in the crook of her neck.
A smile finally made its way to Xiang Ling’s lips. She turned in his arms to face him and looked up at his dazzling deep emerald eyes. She loved his eyes, they were so beautiful, deep, bright, and filled with so much love for her that she wanted to spend every moment of the rest of her life gazing into them.
"What are you looking at?" Zhang Xuan asked when she kept gazing at his face in silence for a long time.
"You," Xiang Ling whispered in response. "You are really handsome, more like beautiful. It feels so good to know that someone with such ethereal beauty now belongs to me. But... it also makes me wonder more about your identity."
Zhang Xuan tightened his hold around her waist as he responded, "I can’t tell you anything right now. But I’ll answer all your questions once you will finish your life tribulation."
Jokingly, Xiang Ling asked, "Why? Are you afraid of getting punished by the Heavenly Emperor?"
Zhang Xuan merely shook his head once as he replied, "He’s not in a place to punish me. I just don’t want to cause troubles for your life tribulation by breaking one of the high rules." His words made the smile disappear from Xiang Ling’s face and an unreadable expression took over. "You don’t believe me?" He asked while looking into her eyes.
Xiang Ling quickly shook her head as a small smile returned to her lips. "If it has been in the past, I would have definitely doubted your words. But not now. I trust you. I just can’t help but wonder who else in the Five Realms would not be afraid of offending the Heavenly Emperor. This also just made me realize that all my husbands have the hearts and powers to face the Heavenly Realm. The Celestial King, Crown Prince Li Xian, Demon Emperor, Spirit Beast King, Mer Crown Prince, and... you."
Zhang Xuan smiled at her words and took hold of one of her hands before bringing it closer to his lips and placing a soft kiss on her knuckles. "I know that you have a lot of questions about my identity and past. I promise to tell you everything as soon as you will finish your life tribulation. For now, the only thing you need to know is that..."
He took a step toward her, closing all the remaining little space they had between their bodies. Standing almost nose to nose, he whispered the remaining words. "... I’m yours, Supreme Immortal Xing. I’m eternally yours."
Xiang Ling felt her heart skipping a beat at those beautiful words that her ears just registered. She liked hearing them. Her heart, body, and soul - all rejoiced together at the confession.
She wrapped her arms across his shoulders and pulled his face closer before whispering, "I’m all yours too, my love. Eternally yours."
The two of them stared into each other’s eyes, their love for each other enveloping them in a blanket of warmth.
