The look that Fu Xiao gave her confirmed Xiang Ling’s worries immediately. A sense of dread took over her as she waited to hear what crimes of the original owner of the body were about to be revealed. There seemed to be no end of the problems that woman had created for others and Xiang Ling.
"Just tell me." She pressed when Fu Xiao remained silent even after certain long seconds had passed.
Fu Xiao let out a small sigh before she whispered, "You used to scare Young Master Cao every chance you got. You always told him scary stories and pretended to be a ghost chasing after him, all because you enjoyed it when he cried."
Xiang Ling closed her eyes and took in a deep breath to calm down her crying heart. She wanted to disappear into thin air once again and found herself cursing the previous owner of her body. There was indeed no end to the horrible deeds that woman had committed.
"My Lady, are you alright?" Fu Xiao asked when she noticed just how devastated Xiang Ling was looking after learning about her mistreatment toward Young Master Cao.
Nodding her head, Xiang Ling opened her eyes and let out a deep breath. "Tell them I’m busy." Saying that, she turned around and was ready to flee from the scene when Zhang Xuan suddenly appeared in front of her.
"Young Master Zhang." The servants greeted the man politely as they all saw him coming from the other side of the hallway.
"My Lady, they are waiting, Please head downstairs." Fu Xiao immediately took the chance to remind her lady the main priority at the moment.
"I said..."
Xiang Ling was ready to remind Fu Xiao that she had no such plan when the words got stuck in her throat as Zhang Xuan took hold of her hand and started walking in the direction of the stairs.
"What are you doing?" She demanded in a whispered tone while trying to stop the man from moving, but it did little to help.
"Why are you trying to run? You have already faced far worse than this. You can’t be afraid from solving such a small matter. Come, let’s go and meet them. I will be right beside you." The man replied and gave her a gentle smile as he threated their fingers together and squeezed her fingers lightly.
Though the gesture warmed up Xiang Ling’s heart, it did absolutely nothing to calm down her racing heart. She was about to face the parents of the little kid whom she used to torture in the past. That didn’t sound like a good reunion in any aspect.
Still, she knew that Zhang Xuan was right. She couldn’t keep running away from these problems. Not like she had ever succeeded in running away throughout the past half year she had spent in the Mortal Realm. Even though her first instinct was always to flee from the spot, she never actually ran away and always eneded up facing the problems.
Taking in a deep breath, she gave a nod in response and headed downstairs along with Zhang Xuan. She was able to feel the tension in the air as soon as she stepped on the ground floor and joined Hao Ran and Zuan Hu.
"Second Brother, second sister-in-law."
Both Xiang Ling and Zhang Xuan greeted at the same time with respectful bows.
"X-Xiang Mei Mei?"
The shocked reaction came from none other than her Second sister-in-law, Chao Xing. The woman stared at Xiang Ling with wide eyes as if she was having a hard time believing what her eyes were seeing.
"Told you. Our Mei Mei has changed a lot." Zuan Hu sounded so proud as she gave Xiang Ling a huge smile.
Xiang Ling felt herself calming down even more as she looked at Hao Ran and Zuan Hu and realized that both of them were on her side. In the past couple of months, their relationship had improved to the point that she and Zuan Hu had almost become sisters.
The two of them always spent some time out of their work schedules to drink tea together every evening where they chatted about different aspects of their lives. They even went shopping together and did each other’s makeup. Even Hao Ran was surprised to see how strong their bond had become over time.
"Xiang’er?"
Xiang Ling shifted her attention from Chao Xing and found herself looking at her Second Brother, Chen Ming. When she finally had a closer look at him, she was surprised to find that this Second Brother of hers was even more soft and gentle than her First Brother. Chen Ming looked like he couldn’t even dare to hurt a fly.
Realizing that she didn’t need to fear her Second Brother, Xiang Ling once again shifted her attention back to Chao Xing and took her time to study her Second sister-in-law just like the woman was studying her. It didn’t take long before she realized that unlike her second brother, her second sister-in-law was not going to forgive her that easily. Though she couldn’t sense any maliciousness coming from Chao Xing, there was still anger, disappointment, and dislike filling the woman’s heart toward Xiang Ling.
"Xiang’er, Ah Ming and sister-in-law are on their way to the city. They stopped by to have lunch before continuing on their way. Let’s have lunch together since we haven’t had one in months as a family." Hao Ran proposed and before Xiang Ling could have replied, Zhang Xuan was already accepting the offer.
"This is-?" Chen Ming asked as his confused gaze landed on Zhang Xuan.
"Second Brother, I’m Zhang Xuan, Xiao Ling’s sixth husband." Zhang Xuan introduced proudly and realization immediately dawned over both Chen Ming and Chao Xing.
"It seems like finally a man is happy after marrying Mei Mei." Chao Xing commented while giving Xiang Ling a very unimpressed look.
"Fu’ren."
Chen Ming was quick to shake his head to stop his wife from targeting Xiang Ling.
Sensing the heaviness in the atmosphere, Zuan Hu decided to divert everyone’s attention. "Let’s get seated first and order some delicacies."
