Chapter 133: Sleep Over
The night breeze entered the chamber through the window that was left wide open and swayed the curtains on its way before dispersing in the big chamber. The candles and lanterns were blown out a long time ago, but the silvery moonlight provided more than enough brightness inside the room.
Xiang Ling turned to her right and faced the window to look at the outside world, but even the beautiful moonlight was unable to calm her down. She had been tossing and turning for so long that she was getting tired. It was already two hours past midnight, and yet, she hadn’t been able to fall asleep. The moment she closed her eyes, she kept recalling the entire incident that happened right before midnight. Xin Cheng’s words kept repeating themselves in her mind.
Feeling frustrated, she threw away the blanket and sat up on the bed. For the next couple of moments, she didn’t move at all, but then suddenly climbed out of the bed and grabbed the outer robe before putting it on while making her way out of the room.
Once outside, she headed in the direction of Wei Guang’s room and softly knocked on the door once she reached there. She knocked again after a moment and finally heard the sound of movements from the other side of the door. A moment later, the door opened and she found Wei Guang standing there with sleep filling his eyes.
"Ah Xiang?" The man stared at her in half confusion and half surprise before his gaze shifted behind her and he looked around the area as if to find someone else. "Why are you here and also at this late hour of the night?" He asked when his gaze returned to her after a moment.
"I can’t sleep." Xiang Ling’s voice was barely audible as she confessed and cast her gaze down as sudden embarrassment took over her. What was she thinking while coming to him? She ruined his sleep as well. But it was already too late to regret her action.
Wei Guang didn’t say anything in response and just observed her in silence for a moment. Then, he finally took hold of one of her hands and pulled her inside the room before closing the doors behind them.
"Let me light a lantern first." He said and turned to move away from her only for Xiang Ling to suddenly wrap her arms around his waist from behind. He froze in his steps and his hands moved to cover her hands that were resting against his belly. Taking hold of her hands, he loosened her grip on him and turned to face the woman.
"Is everything alright?" He asked in concern but the darkness in the room didn’t allow him to look at her expression. He was only able to see her silhouette and feel the warmth of her hands which he was still holding.
"I..." Xiang Ling tried to reply but she didn’t know what to say. She couldn’t tell him about her conversation with Xin Cheng and Dao Ming, and she had no idea why she came to him when she was unable to fall asleep even after hours had passed since that conversation. Taking in a deep breath, she asked instead, "Can I sleep here tonight with you?"
Unlike Wei Guang who was unable to see her expression in the darkness, Xiang Ling’s enhanced eyesight gave her the privilege to study him and every little shift in his expression. That was why she saw the surprise that her request brought on his face right before a warmth took over his expression and a small smile appeared on his lips. "Of course, you can." He answered and made a smile appear on her lips as well.
Since she could see his expressions, she knew that he was genuinely welcoming her to sleep over with him, and it was not just out of any obligation.
"Let me help you out of your clothes." He said right before his hands moved to her shoulders and he slowly pulled down her outer robe. He then took hold of one of her hands and pulled her in the direction of the bed.
Xiang Ling climbed on the bed first before Wei Guang followed after her. The two of them settled down comfortably under the covers and silence filled the room.
"This feels so different." Wei Guang suddenly confessed.
"How?" Xiang Ling asked curiously and turned her face to look at him. He was gazing at the ceiling in the darkness as he answered, "We have never slept like this before."
A smile curved the corners of Xiang Ling’s lips as she turned on her side to face the man who also turned his head in her direction when he heard her moving. "What do you mean? Are you saying that this is the first time we are sleeping together without doing anything about the night activities of couples?"
Wei Guang inhaled sharply, completely taken aback by her words. "I... we..." He was suddenly at a loss for words.
Shifting closer to the man, Xiang Ling placed her hand over his chest and spoke, "It’s alright. This will be another experience for the two of us."
For a moment, Wei Guang didn’t say anything and his expression barely changed, but then he suddenly wrapped his arm around her and pulled her against him while tucking her head against his shoulder. "You are right. We need to experience a lot of things together. This is one of them."
The smile on Xiang Ling’s lips became bigger and she snuggled closer to him until her entire body was pressed against his. She lifted her head and placed a soft kiss on his jaw before once again resting her face against his shoulder.
She watched his smile grow bigger because of the kiss, and just like that, the two of them closed their eyes to sleep. Wrapped in his strong arms and surrounded by his familiar scent and warmth, it barely took any time before Xiang Ling fell into a deep sleep.
