"You know?"
The question came from Dao Ming who placed the vial of Demonic Poison on a nearby wooden cabinet and turned his full attention toward Xiang Ling.
A smile made its way to Xiang Ling’s lips. She folded her arms over her chest and finally confessed. "I have known for a while."
"Since when?" The one who asked the question this time was Xin Cheng. His sharp gaze was fixed on her as he waited for an answer.
Xiang Ling turned her attention toward Dao Ming before she answered, "Since the moment I found that the wolf I rescued could shift into a man. It’s almost common knowledge that there aren’t any white spirit wolves left, except for the royal line. In the beginning, it was that unique color of his fur and eyes that made me suspicious of his identity, and this suspicion only grew bigger with time."
Stopping for a moment to take in a deep breath, she continued, "Later, I realized that you both are more powerful than me. After passing the Heavenly Tribulation, I had nearly twenty thousand years of cultivation powers, but this mortal body can merely handle two thousand years of cultivation powers. In short, I can tell whether someone has more or less than twenty thousand years of cultivation powers. And while I can’t tell your exact cultivation powers, you both have more than twenty thousand years of it."
The two men listened silently as she continued speaking. "That night at the Tianlin mountains, I felt the immense powers that Xin Cheng used. Though there was no clear demonic touch in his cultivation, being an immortal, I could tell that he wasn’t an Immortal, nor was he a spirit beast."
Her gaze once again shifted back to Dao Ming. "That night, you almost confirmed your identity when you so easily stopped the White Lion from attacking. A more powerful spirit beast could have made her surrender, but that night, you made her submit to you."
The room was filled with silence for a while before Xin Cheng broke it with his question. "Only this and you confirmed our identities just like that?"
The small smile on Xiang Ling’s lips became bigger. "Not really. My guess only became stronger when I went to the construction site this afternoon. You are more powerful than me, that was why you succeeded in hiding your demonic aura, but your subordinates couldn’t do it since they aren’t anywhere near my level of cultivation. Those two men whom I met today, they were demons and they addressed you as their Lord."
Xiang Ling let out a small sigh before she concluded. "Once I returned to the manor, I found a moment to confirm my doubt with Xuelin and she told me that Dao Ming is indeed the Spirit Beast King just like I have been guessing."
"Xuelin? Who’s this?" Dao Ming asked as he was confused by the sudden involvement of a stranger.
"She’s the White Lion you gifted me." Xiang Ling answered the question before she turned her attention toward Xin Cheng and continued, "As for you. Once I confirmed Ah Ming’s identity, I already knew who you were as the deep brotherhood between the Demon Emperor and the Spirit Beast King is known throughout the Five Realms. Still, there was the possibility of my guess being wrong. So, I took the chance and addressed you as Demon Lord, only to realize that I was right in my guess."
Xiang Ling felt really proud of herself. Despite doubting their identities for so long, she somehow succeeded in fooling them by acting completely clueless around them until the very moment she confirmed their identities. The look on both the men’s faces was worth enjoying at that moment.
"You played really well this time, Little Star." Dao Ming praised as he closed the small distance between them and came to stand right in front of her once again.
"I will take this as a compliment." She said while staring into the man’s beautiful gray eyes.
"It is a compliment. You just proved to that man over there that he shouldn’t underestimate you." Dao Ming smirked as he glanced at Xin Cheng over his shoulder, forcing Xiang Ling’s attention toward the Demon Emperor as well.
Xin Cheng finally stood up from the desk and made his way toward the two of them while his gaze was fixed on Xiang Ling. Once he was also standing in front of her, he stretched out his hand and the vial of Demonic Poison rushed straight into his open palm.
"You are right. There are indeed some people creating trouble right under my nose." He returned the vial to her and Xiang Ling put it back into her space right before his question came. "But what makes you think that it’s just some demons and it’s not my plan?"
The small smile returned to Xiang Ling’s lips as she gazed back into the dark crimson eyes of the Demon Emperor and replied, "Because that’s not your way of doing things. As much as I know you, if you want to start a war with the Heaven Realm, you will not use such foolish tactics."
Xin Cheng smirked and gave a little nod of his head. "You don’t know me well enough to be so confident."
Xiang Ling took another step closer and entered his personal space. Putting her index finger under his chin, she gave a little upward push to his face, clearly surprising the man with her actions. Feeling satisfied by his slightly flustered expression, she agreed, "Indeed. There’s so much about you that I need to find out."
There was suddenly a presence beside her and the very next moment, she felt Dao Ming’s breath fanning her ear as he spoke in a low voice - "He really likes it."
Feeling confused, she found herself asking - "Likes what?"
"You being in power." Dao Ming whispered as one of his hands snaked around her waist while he shifted behind her. "You being fearless despite his cold attitude and being dominant when he’s least prepared for it. He really likes it every time you make him realize that you have the power to control him and not the other way around."
