Chapter 1423 - 1418: Where’s the Person in Charge? (Part 1)
Chapter 1423: Chapter 1418: Where’s the Person in Charge? (Part 1)
Gambling Freak Nine was basically regretting this to death!
Why the hell did he take this job?
The money was good, sure, but you gotta be alive to spend it!
If you’re dead, what the hell are you gonna do with cash?
Or who are you leaving it for?
He had old folks above, kids below, and in this life he hadn’t even had a proper girlfriend!
And even if he did, she wouldn’t stick around.
What, keep her so she can spend his money for some other guy?
Anyway, he figured a guy like him just needed to live well in the present.
On this point, he was actually pretty open-minded.
Unlike some people who, once they see money, don’t even want their lives anymore.
They never stop to think whether they’ll still be alive to spend that money once they get it.
As for these two looking so damn confident, or maybe not afraid at all—could they really take on that whole bunch?
Keep in mind, it was just the two of them!
If the casino boss were here, maybe that gang of punks would give him some face, might even be scared.
But right now, who the hell was scared of two random strangers like them?
He didn’t think about anything else at all.
Like, one guy taking on ten—far as he was concerned, that only happened in movies.
In real life, even if you’re a world champ boxer, once a dozen people surround you, you’re going down.
Before long, the three of them arrived at some run-down, busted-ass place.
Looked like this patch was part of the slums too.
The punks here weren’t doing so hot either.
At least, that’s how it looked to Lin Xi and He Zhanyin.
They hadn’t even gotten within ten meters when someone in the distance spotted them.
The guy had dyed purple hair, looked exactly like those "non-mainstream" kids in Huaxia back in the early 2000s.
Only, compared to that era’s non-mainstream crowd, these guys were doing way worse.
You could tell that at a glance from their clothes.
Back then, Huaxia’s non-mainstream punks were still ahead of the curve fashion-wise; these thugs looked no different from the slum peasants.
Basically, all torn-up rags.
If punks from Huaxia or some other country saw this, they’d definitely say, "You’re making us lose face!"
Like, what the hell, you look like our ancient-era Beggar Gang.
What, did our Beggar Gang migrate over to your turf or something?
Of course, that was just appearance-wise.
The Beggar Gang in ancient times still had a decent overall image, at least.
"Gambling Freak Nine, what the hell are you doing on our turf?" The purple-haired young punk flicked away his cheap cigarette and swaggered over like some street hood.
While he gave Gambling Freak Nine a once-over, he also looked at Lin Xi and He Zhanyin, both neatly dressed and clearly not ordinary.
His eyes instantly lit up with a greedy glint.
Like he’d just spotted a fat mark.
No, no, no—
Not "like"—he damn well had.
These two clearly weren’t from the slums.
If they’d come here, they must need something from them.
Gambling Freak Nine saw that look in the purple-haired punk’s eyes and couldn’t help but sigh.
Today he was either getting his ass kicked, or maybe even losing his life.
No matter what, he was the one who brought these two here.
And the two guys beside him—he didn’t even know their names—but he was sure as hell they were here to stir up trouble, no doubt about it.
"S-so-so... here’s the thing, we want to—" He hadn’t even finished his sentence.
It was like he saw something flicker by out of the corner of his eye.
Then when he looked back at the purple-haired punk—he was gone!
Where’d he go?
His whole body went cold with shock.
Did we just run into a ghost?
The thought had barely formed when he heard a distant "bang!"
From far off, he saw the purple-haired punk already smashed into the punks’ nest.
Which was just some shack made of cheap scrap panels thrown together.
The crappy wall now had a perfect human-shaped dent in it.
Suddenly, a thought flashed through his head.
But just as fast, he dismissed it as impossible.
There was no way someone like that existed.
That’d be completely unscientific!
But if it wasn’t that...
All of a sudden, his whole body felt icy.
The two guys next to him felt like devils straight out of hell.
"Uh, uh..."
He muttered under his breath, wanting to say something, but the words jammed in his throat and just wouldn’t come out.
Lin Xi and He Zhanyin ignored him.
They walked straight in.
Didn’t matter that a whole crowd of punks inside started roaring the moment they saw them.
And when they spotted the two, they all grabbed whatever weapons they had.
Some of them even had guns.
Gambling Freak Nine, behind them, saw it all.
To have lived this long, if his eyes weren’t sharp, he’d have died a hundred times over already.
"Do we go?"
"Or do we go?"
"If we don’t go?"
"We’re dead, right?"
That was what his brain was circling around now.
But in the end, he still followed them in.
Didn’t know what kind of brain cramp that was.
Or maybe it was faith—in Lin Xi and He Zhanyin.
Or maybe he just knew that even if he bailed now, no matter which side won, things would end worse for him.
"Who’s in charge here? Talk." He Zhanyin shouted.
His voice didn’t carry even a hint of emotion.
From how Lin Xi had just moved, it was obvious he didn’t want to waste time.
Same for him—he had zero interest in dragging this out.
The sooner they got a lead, the better their chances.
"Who the fuck are you, putting hands on my brother? Looks like you’re tired of living!"
A lanky guy about one-eighty tall stepped out, clearly some malnourished punk.
Otherwise, he’d have been a big-ass Northeasterner.
But as it was, he just looked broke as hell.
Or maybe he was shooting up or whatever.
He grabbed a steel rebar and swung it at He Zhanyin.
He Zhanyin snorted coldly, barely lifted his foot, and kicked the guy under the chin ahead of time.
Crack—
Sounded like his jaw shattered.
No, his neck snapped too.
With a "thud!"
He hit the ground without making a sound.
Clearly dead as dead gets.
The whole place was stunned.
Plus the guy Lin Xi had just sent flying, who was still lying there not moving.
In under a minute, two people were dead?
Even this bunch of crazy-ass punks, who normally didn’t give a damn about their lives, felt a wave of cold crawl all over them.
They’d seen people die before.
But deaths like this—they’d never seen.
And someone killing so clean and decisive, without even blinking—that they really had never seen.
Gambling Freak Nine, who’d just caught up, couldn’t stop his hands and feet from shaking.
Goddamn!
Thinking back on the trip over with these two, it felt like he’d had a knife pressed to his neck the whole way.
If he’d had any funny ideas, or said one wrong word—
They’d probably have slit his throat already!
At this point, he felt that even if they didn’t pay him a cent, he wouldn’t dare complain.
"Who’s in charge?" He Zhanyin was getting impatient.
What he’d just done didn’t seem to affect him at all.
And honestly, it didn’t.
For him to run things so well in the Golden Triangle and become an intel kingpin, he had to be a real savage.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have lived this long, much less climbed so high.
If you’ve got no skills, who the hell is gonna take you seriously?
PS: Thanks for all the rec tickets and monthly passes, really appreciate the support. This definitely
