Chapter 454: The Companion Spirit’s Imperfection
“There are needles in your head. Don’t move.” Ning Xuan gave Ying Yaoshi a light pat, making him lie still.
“Okay.” Ying Yaoshi lowered his gaze and obediently lay back down.
Though he lay down, his eyes kept darting around, scanning Zeng Yu and the others.
He soon realized that Zeng Yu and the others were all High-Level Half-beastmen with Spiritual Power Levels approaching SSS-level.
Due to congenital genetic defects, Half-beastmen rarely live past the age of twenty, despite their high initial Spiritual Power Values. Consequently, High-Level Half-beastmen are extremely rare.
Yet here were forty to fifty High-Level Half-beastmen, which was not normal at all.
“Close your eyes.” Ning Xuan placed her hand over Ying Yaoshi’s face.
Seeing that Ning Xuan had no intention of answering him, Ying Yaoshi didn’t ask again and obediently closed his eyes.
As Ying Yaoshi gradually calmed down, Ning Xuan removed the Golden Needles used to pacify and stabilize his Spiritual Sea. She then withdrew her consciousness from her body and passed through the Spiritual Link Channel, entering completely into Ying Yaoshi’s Spiritual Sea.
Within Ying Yaoshi’s Spiritual Sea, the Four-winged Ying Snake lay in a pathetic state on the reefs at the edge of the boundless Black Sea. A dense black miasma rose from the Black Sea, continuously seeping into the great snake’s body. The dark purple scales on its surface were curled and blasted open, soaked through with vast amounts of blood. Several bones in its four giant wings were broken and visibly deformed, and the two horns on its head were wreathed in black fog, as if they had been completely devoured by it.
Ning Xuan looked at the true state of Ying Yaoshi’s Companion Spirit and gave a cold, angry laugh. ‘Even injured to this degree, he still wastes Spiritual Power to put up a facade of being in control. He’d rather suffer than lose face.’
‘If not for the fact that I can hear the wails from the depths of the Companion Spirit’s soul, I really would have thought it was completely unscathed.’
“CHIRP!” A small red bird flew out from Ning Xuan’s body and sprayed the great snake with golden-red flames. The black miasma continuously pouring into the snake was swiftly devoured upon contact with the fire. As the flames burned, wisps of black miasma scrambled to escape from the wounds on the snake’s body, only to be quickly consumed by the outer ring of fire.
Under the searing flames of the Vermilion Bird, the great snake’s pitch-black body began to brighten. Its once-dull scales started to sparkle, the gaping wounds healed at a rate visible to the naked eye, the broken bones in its four wings rapidly reconnected, and the horns on its head returned to their brilliant golden hue.
A blurry human figure leaped out from between the great snake’s brows. By the time it reached Ning Xuan’s spirit body, it had solidified into the form of Ying Yaoshi.
Ying Yaoshi stared blankly at Ning Xuan, then glanced back at the great snake in disbelief. “My spirit body can exist at the same time as my Companion Spirit? Xuanyuan, how did you do that?”
An immense look of delighted surprise erupted in Ying Yaoshi’s eyes. He stared at Ning Xuan, his expression a picture of indescribable elation and excitement.
“Is that so strange? My spirit body and Companion Spirit exist at the same time too,” Ning Xuan said, failing to understand his excitement.
“My Companion Spirit suffered a traumatic injury, leaving it incomplete. In order to preserve its combat strength, my Spiritual Sea became like this. Ever since then, my spirit body and Companion Spirit have been almost completely merged, unable to appear at the same time. It’s for this very reason that I can’t achieve Extraordinary Promotion,” Ying Yaoshi explained to Ning Xuan.
“Now that this problem is solved, does that mean you can achieve your Extraordinary Promotion?” Ning Xuan asked, her gaze fixed thoughtfully on the boundless Black Sea behind the great snake.
Ning Xuan had entered his Spiritual Sea once before, when she established the Spiritual Link Channel with Ying Yaoshi. But back then, her Spiritual Power Level was much lower than his, so she could only make a hasty entrance and leave immediately after creating the channel. She only remembered his Spiritual Sea being incredibly vast and filled with an oppressive, gray fog. This time, upon entering, she saw the boundless Black Sea.
“There is hope now. But, my Lord Contract Master, could you tell me why you are here? And how did you bring so many Half-beastmen into the Chaotic Divine Domain?” Ying Yaoshi returned to the topic.
“On Beichen Star, a violent conflict triggered a spatial collapse. At that moment, I used the key to the Chaotic Divine Domain to sense that you were here and in a very bad state. So, I crushed the key and was brought here. I had used my vines to tie them all together, so they came in with me.” Ning Xuan surmised that because the vines were part of her body and she had bound the others together, the Secret Realm must have recognized them all as a single entity.
“A key to the Chaotic Divine Domain has always only allowed one person to enter, yet you managed to bring in so many people at once.” Ying Yaoshi was speechless at Ning Xuan’s explanation.
‘The reason no one dares to venture into the Chaotic Divine Domain is that there are too few keys to the Secret Realm, each key only admits one person, and the teleportation is random. While the Secret Realm is full of Heavenly Materials and Spiritual Treasures, it’s also teeming with High-level Mutant Beasts. If you aren’t strong enough, it’s a one-way trip. But Ning Xuan brought in so many people with a single key… farming SSS-level Exotic Beasts would be no problem at all. The safety factor has increased by an unknown magnitude.’
“Hm? Why is your face so red?” Ning Xuan couldn’t help but ask, seeing Ying Yaoshi’s face flush crimson.
“Xuan… Xuan, tell the Vermilion Bird to stop breathing fire. I… It’s getting to be too much.” Ying Yaoshi felt as if his once-frigid body was now being roasted.
