Chapter 394: Dazzling Battle Record
Chapter 394: Chapter 394: Dazzling Battle Record
"What’s wrong? Your head is hurting again? Is it very painful?" Yu Mingche looked at Ning Xuan with concern.
"It comes in waves. My Spiritual Sea was injured, and it hasn’t fully recovered. I need to get some proper sleep. Stay with me," Ning Xuan said, wrapping her arms around Yu Mingche’s neck and resting her head against his body.
"Alright, I’ll stay with you," Yu Mingche said gently, sweeping Ning Xuan up into his arms.
As soon as Yu Mingche had arrived, he made a beeline for Ning Xuan’s location. He didn’t know where she usually rested, so he looked over at Zhou Shi, who had just tried to stop him. A chill ran down Zhou Shi’s back under Yu Mingche’s frigid gaze.
Zhou Shi had just come from the treatment room. General Lan had been beaten to a pulp by this Lord Yu before them. However, General Lan had instructed them to treat Lord Yu with the utmost respect, no matter what.
"Governor, please follow me," Zhou Shi said, quickly leading the way.
Only after Yu Mingche lifted her did Ning Xuan remember his special physical condition. She reached out to touch his abdomen. "Are you sure you’re okay? Maybe I should get down."
"Xuanyuan, my emotions have been unstable lately, but my body is fine. Don’t squirm, just let me hold you." Yu Mingche held Ning Xuan steady, preventing her from getting down.
Hearing this, Ning Xuan let him have his way.
Ning Xuan had already been asleep for hours before Yu Mingche arrived. But with her damaged Spiritual Sea and depleted spiritual power, she still felt drowsy. Breathing in Yu Mingche’s scent, she naturally drifted off to sleep again.
Yu Mingche carried the sleeping Ning Xuan back to her quarters. On the holographic projection screen, Ying Yaoshi watched in silence as Yu Mingche carefully placed Ning Xuan on the bed and tucked her in.
"Stop staring at her. Come outside, I need to talk to you about something," Ying Yaoshi couldn’t help but say when he saw Yu Mingche gazing intently at Ning Xuan.
"Why go outside? If you have something to say, just say it here." Yu Mingche shot him a glare.
"You’re sure you want to talk about it here?" A cold sneer appeared on Ying Yaoshi’s face.
Yu Mingche’s expression darkened. With a cold snort, he stood up and walked outside.
The moment Yu Mingche left, Ning Xuan opened her eyes. She had been asleep, but she’d woken up when he laid her on the bed and continued to stare at her. Ying Yaoshi and Yu Mingche had kept their video call active, but the signal was unstable on both ends, frequently cutting in and out.
She wondered what the two of them were talking about. Curious, and with some of her spiritual power restored, Ning Xuan drew several strands of Vine Silk from her palm. She cast a Spell on them, and the Vine Silk slipped out from under the door. Soon, the voices of Ying Yaoshi and Yu Mingche traveled back to her through the vines.
"Yu Mingche, the Blue Snake Corps repelled the assault from the Level 3 Spatial Rift and the Level 5 Beast Tide! They also submitted a large quantity of active genes from an SSS-level Star Sky Beast in its half-metamorphosis stage. Do you have any idea what a brilliant military achievement that is? Lan Xin was the commander, and he was the key to this victory. Those active genes he extracted and submitted can be used to produce vast amounts of gene-enhancement medicine. For that contribution alone, the Life Research Institute has already awarded him its highest medal of honor, and the Military Department is preparing to grant him the rank of Admiral! Right now, scores of Star Network war correspondents are rushing here to interview him," Ying Yaoshi told Yu Mingche, his voice charged with emotion.
"Oh. So they’re interviewing him. What’s that got to do with me?" In contrast to Ying Yaoshi’s agitation, Yu Mingche’s voice was far calmer.
"’What’s it got to do with you?’ You think I *want* to be talking to you? Have you no idea what you’ve done? What did he do wrong? You beat him to that state! That’s vigilantism, an abuse of your authority," Ying Yaoshi demanded, his brow furrowed.
"Ning Xuan was injured saving him," Yu Mingche said, his expression hardening.
"Don’t think I don’t know what happened. Lan Xin was fighting the Exotic Beast, and Ning Xuan ran out there on her own. It was her choice. You’re just misplacing your anger," Ying Yaoshi said with a frown.
"What’s this? Your Contractor gets injured and you don’t say a word, but your heart aches for Lan Xin now that he’s been beaten?" Yu Mingche sneered.
"Can you stop spouting nonsense? When did I ever ignore her? The way you are, so petty, have I even had a chance to speak with Ning Xuan? Besides, when did I ever say my heart ached for Lan Xin? You’ve already beaten him up. I just want you to allow him to get the injuries on his face treated. Do you think it’s appropriate for him to appear on the Star Network with his face swollen up like a pig’s head?" Ying Yaoshi was so enraged by Yu Mingche he was on the verge of cursing.
"What’s so inappropriate about it? I saw the combat footage. If Ning Xuan hadn’t drawn the Exotic Beast’s attention for him, it’s debatable whether he would have even survived. And without her healing him, he wouldn’t even be conscious right now." The thought of the battle video made Yu Mingche’s heart ache with a bitter pang.
Just then, Ning Xuan pushed the door open and emerged. The faint starlight filtered through a porthole in the Starship’s ceiling, casting a hazy, soft glow across her pale face. She leaned against the doorframe, her gaze calm as she looked at them.
Yu Mingche stood with his back to the door. The holographic projection of Ying Yaoshi suddenly flickered.
On the other end of the call, Ying Yaoshi spotted Ning Xuan before Yu Mingche did. His sharp, piercing eyes instantly softened.
"Xuanyuan, you’re awake? How are you feeling? Does your head still hurt?" Ying Yaoshi asked in a rapid-fire series of questions, his voice filled with unconcealed concern.
Yu Mingche flinched. Almost instinctively, he raised his hand and—CLICK—severed the Light Computer communication.
Ying Yaoshi’s holographic image vanished.
Back on the Ten Thousand Meteor Star Domain Battlefield, Ying Yaoshi stared at the screen that had abruptly gone dark, his pupils constricting. He slammed his clenched fist down on the command console, cursing, "Yu Mingche, that petty bastard."
Ying Yaoshi wanted to call Ning Xuan directly, but her Light Computer didn’t have sufficient clearance; it couldn’t receive a video call signal in a region with such spatial instability.
The suppressed fury in Ying Yaoshi’s voice made his surrounding adjutants instinctively take half a step back. Outside the porthole, the wreckage of countless warships drifted slowly through space.
Ying Yaoshi’s figure was ramrod straight, the crisp shoulder lines of his uniform looking exceptionally sharp under the cool-toned lighting. His hard features were like a sculpture. Suddenly, the corner of his mouth curled into a slight smile. ’Lan Xin managed to lead the Blue Snake Corps in repelling the assault from a Level 3 Spatial Rift and a Level 5 Beast Tide. It’s truly surprising. Although the process was perilous, the subsequent benefits are obvious.’
’Lan Xin really is a promising talent. With a bit more tempering, he’ll soon be able to take my place guarding the Ten Thousand Meteor Star Domain Battlefield for a while.’
The holographic call cut off abruptly. Ning Xuan looked at Yu Mingche.
Yu Mingche gave her a somewhat guilty smile. "Xuanyuan, you’re awake?"
’I wonder how much of that conversation she heard?’
