Chapter 375: Mo Yan
Chapter 375: Chapter 375: Mo Yan
The Eleventh Young Master Mo’s name was Mo Yan.
Although Mo Yan shared the Mo surname, he was from a side branch of the family. He was selected to be raised in the main family residence because his parents had died when he was very young. It also helped that he awakened his spiritual power quite early, and subsequent tests revealed his talent to be rather promising.
Even though Mo Yan was technically a young master of the Mo Family and grew up in the main residence, his life there was far from easy. When he first arrived, he was constantly walking on thin ice.
He was from a side branch and an orphan, yet his talent was undeniable—even better than that of the main residence’s proper young masters. This earned him Mo Yu’s animosity.
After all, at that age, the proud Mo Yu couldn’t stand seeing this boy from a side branch actually be more powerful than him.
There was no seat for Mo Yan in the dining hall. Mo Yu even frequently ordered the attendants to "get his meal wrong," leaving him with either cold leftovers or a spiked drink.
One time, after drinking soup laced with a laxative, Mo Yan embarrassed himself during an exam, earning him the ridicule of his peers and the disgust of his instructors.
For a while after that incident, he didn’t dare to eat or drink anything and nearly starved to death.
They not only sabotaged his daily life but also subjected him to severe inequality when it came to Cultivation resources.
His only saving grace was that the main residence still provided him with basic educational resources. The Book Collection Pavilion became his sanctuary; the thick, ancient tomes and obscure spiritual power manuals within were the only treasures he could access on an equal footing with the others.
Mo Yu enjoyed top-tier Cultivation resources, allowing him to advance steadily despite his mediocre aptitude. Mo Yan, however, couldn’t even hold onto the most basic resources. His Spiritual Power Level was built entirely on his own, bit by painstaking bit.
Yet, despite all the unfair treatment he had suffered since childhood, they seemed to turn a blind eye to it all.
Mo Changsheng, the man at the helm of the Mo Family, actually believed that because the main household had raised Mo Yan, he ought to be eternally grateful to them.
"Mo Yan, you’re a grown man now. It’s time you repaid the family for raising you. Depart today for the Second Corps Headquarters Base. Find Ning Xuan, and figure out a way to stay by her side," Mo Changsheng told Mo Yan, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Mo Yan obediently accepted the order. Though his heart was filled with resentment and dissatisfaction, his position was lowly and his words carried no weight. He had no way to resist the Mo Family Head’s arrangements.
Swallowing his grievances, Mo Yan accepted the file on Ning Xuan. He opened it to the first page and saw her photograph. The sight of the cold yet exquisite girl made all his feelings of injustice instantly vanish.
As Mo Yan walked out of the reception hall, his expression instantly went blank. He knew Yue Qingtian had already made many arrangements for him, but none had achieved their objective.
When he had first arrived at the base six months ago, Mo Yan hadn’t been in a rush. He had wanted to observe Ning Xuan from the shadows to understand what kind of person she was. Only by learning more about her could he confidently figure out how to get on her good side.
But back then, Ning Xuan never left the treatment room, and those around her forbade anyone from approaching it. He waited for a long time but never found a single clue.
It wasn’t until the moment he saw her that he understood. ’So, the Ning Xuan who hid in the treatment room and never came out wasn’t her at all. The person I see now is the real Ning Xuan.’
Lin Mo had been severely injured on the battlefield and should have died. But then, Ning Xuan had shown up, arriving at the most critical moment.
Ning Xuan’s spiritual power was immense. She was even more powerful than her file described, and more beautiful too.
While Mo Yan was trying to figure out how to get close to Ning Xuan, Lin Mo found himself hesitant to face her.
Although Ning Xuan didn’t seem to hold anything against him, Lin Mo still felt uneasy. The main reason for his discomfort was that Ning Xuan clearly had no intention of performing the Contract ceremony with him.
This peace lasted only a few days before crisis erupted once more on the Star Domain Main Battlefield.
An Energy Storm on the Star Domain Main Battlefield abruptly tore through a vast swathe of space. Horrifying fluctuations spread like ripples, and even from several Star Systems away, the base where Ning Xuan was stationed felt an apocalyptic pressure.
Upon sensing the extremely chaotic Energy Field, Ning Xuan immediately realized something major had occurred. The Military Department quickly began to assemble troops and issue mobilization orders. Many armies garrisoned in fixed positions received the call, the Second Legion among them. Lin Mo, having only just recovered, was sent back to the battlefield.
In footage sent back from the front lines, countless crimson rifts could be seen tearing through the pitch-black void of space, like wounds ripped open by an invisible hand.
Violent spacetime turbulence surged from these rifts. Wherever it passed, stars twisted and were annihilated, their light devoured until only a void remained.
The defensive satellites on the base’s perimeter didn’t even have time to send a warning before they were ripped into scrap metal with a deafening SCREECH of tearing metal.
The once-stable environment of space was instantly thrown into chaos. Starspots erupted on the surfaces of massive celestial bodies, and waves of intense heat washed over everything like a tidal wave.
At the same time, bizarre gravitational storms formed, throwing the entire Star Domain’s gravitational field into disarray. Asteroid belts were torn to shreds and planetary orbits shifted.
In the heart of the battlefield, a bizarre spatial tunnel was relentlessly spewing out all kinds of Exotic Beasts.
Ning Xuan watched the scene on the battlefield, her gaze fixed on the spatial tunnel, which appeared surprisingly stable. Suddenly, an idea struck her.
’Where does the other end of that tunnel lead? What is the world on that side like?’
As Lin Mo prepared to head to the battlefield, Ning Xuan joined him.
Yue Qingtian desperately wanted her to stay. He had already witnessed Ning Xuan’s abilities; if she remained at the base, many of them would be able to survive their injuries.
However, Ning Xuan was a top-tier Healer and Alchemy Master. With a major crisis erupting on the main battlefield and the harsh conditions, casualties were bound to be high. She was needed there more.
And so, he swallowed the words that had been on the tip of his tongue.
Yun Han’s Heavenly Might Corps and the troops dispatched by Ying Yaoshi also rushed to the Star Domain Main Battlefield, arriving around the same time as Ning Xuan’s group.
Yun Han was greatly reassured to see Ning Xuan. With her present, their chances of survival increased dramatically.
The troops dispatched by Ying Yaoshi were led by none other than Lan Xin. ’For such a major engagement, Ying Yaoshi sent Lan Xin? What does that mean? It means her strength has finally earned his recognition.’
The breach from the initial explosion was so vast that all major war zones and every corps had dispatched troops to assist. Ning Xuan wanted to fight on the front lines, but, as expected, she was assigned to the base’s newly erected medical and rescue center.
