Interstellar Era: Starting As a Cleaner

Chapter 41: Slaying

Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Slaying

Yang Bo had actually braced himself and charged headlong into the group of enemies. Since all twenty Mechas were equipped with ranged Weapons, how could he possibly escape? If there were no troops or Air-Ground Combat Aircraft outside, he would have definitely run away. But if he went out now, he would probably have to obediently step out of his Mecha and take the blame for everything. After all, he was dressed as the Black Armored Knight. It was only after disabling three Mechas in a row that Yang Bo realized they didn’t seem to carry any melee Weapons.

It made sense. With so many Genetic Evolvers on the scene, if they brought melee Weapons and everyone scattered, what could they do? Yang Bo set the Energy Shield on his left hand to automatic defense mode. In the instant he disabled the three Mechas, the others were already scrambling to their feet. Why use the word "scrambling"? Because just a moment ago, these twenty Mechas had been knocked flat on the ground like bowling pins.

Invisible streams of high-Energy particle rays struck the Energy Shield on his Mecha’s left hand, causing Five-Colored halos to ripple across its surface. His entire Mecha leaped into the air. With a single jumping slash, not only did he cause the other Mechas’ ranged Weapons to miss, but his Blade cleaved the most threatening remaining Mecha cleanly in half. As for why Yang Bo was so proficient in Mecha melee combat, it was naturally from practicing in the game.

"This Plasma Saber made of Energy Metal is incredible," he thought, looking at the Mecha cleaved in two. The Plasma Saber in his hand, forged by Dimension Company using Energy Metal, packed immense Power. Previously, he had assumed Dimension Company was just bragging in their product introductions.

The Mecha’s built-in evaluation system assessed the threat levels of enemy targets. As Yang Bo landed from his jumping slash, the view inside the cockpit showed the Mecha’s left hand constantly shifting the Energy Shield to block shots from High-Frequency Laser Guns. His hands moved so fast inside the cockpit that they left afterimages. Because this area was blanketed by a powerful jamming system, manual control was strictly required.

Countless people watched Yang Bo cleave an enemy Mecha in half with a jumping slash. A chill ran from their heads down to their lower bodies, as if they were the ones being split in two, accompanied by a sudden urge to urinate. Fresh blood splattered all over the split Mecha’s wreckage.

Then, the crowd saw the Blade Mecha’s Rocket Backpack ignite. With another boost, the entire Mecha instantly pounced toward a different target. The targeted solid black Mecha dodged with a quick flash of movement, but it was still instantly sliced in half by the five-meter-long Plasma Saber.

"An expert!"

"An arcing assault. That kind of tactical maneuver is the easiest way to confuse an enemy."

"An Ace Mecha Master, without a doubt."

"Look at the tracks on the ground. That arcing thrust relies mainly on controlling both feet after the initial dash, applying force with one foot to alter the Mecha’s trajectory."

"At such close range, the operational difficulty is immense. Dome Entertainment City activated a super-strong jamming field. Aside from the livestream signal channel left by the Red Earl, no one else can communicate. At a time like this, the Mecha Master inside relies entirely on hand speed for control," the knowledgeable spectators in the crowd discussed upon seeing the scene.

Of course, there were also many innocent bystanders on the scene. Because those Mechas missed Yang Bo when they opened fire, their stray shots hit the innocent people instead.

"Quick, shoot it!"

"Trash, aim better! You hit me!"

"I’m not familiar with this High-Frequency Laser Cannon! It’s a new product."

"Fire together!"

The enemy Mechas shouted loudly, giving off a chaotic impression, as if they completely lacked a Commander.

What Yang Bo didn’t know was that it was impossible for the extremist organization to relinquish command to outsiders, and their Commander never would have expected their own people to backstab them. Therefore, out of desperation, these extremist organization members piloting the Mechas resorted to shouting openly over their external speakers.

However, poorly trained group combat was even worse than fighting solo. After all, incompetent teammates were the deadliest form of sabotage. Furthermore, the Weapons these Mechas had snatched were all new models from the exhibition; without proper training, using them was bound to be awkward. Moreover, using ranged Weapons in Mecha combat was like being a sniper in the military—it required a specific direction of Genetic Evolution. Otherwise, it was simply impossible to hit a high-speed moving enemy Mecha.

These guys weren’t accustomed to their Weapons, lacked unified command, and perhaps didn’t even have Genetic Evolutions suited for ranged fire support. As a result, their threat to Yang Bo was drastically reduced.

Yang Bo noticed something else was off. The flow of information he was receiving wasn’t right.

"Why is it all Warship Maintenance? Could it be that these guys aren’t actually proficient in Mecha piloting?" he wondered. He knew that the abilities he randomly acquired were always a person’s strongest skill. Having killed so many of them, how could there not be a single one with the Mecha Pilot skill?

It seemed like a long time, but from when Yang Bo killed the Silver Armored Knight to now crippling five Mechas, less than ten seconds had passed. After slaying the black Mecha, Yang Bo didn’t slow down. Utilizing the instantaneous acceleration of his Flying Backpack, he executed another jumping slash, evading various Weapon attacks—mostly High-Frequency Laser Cannons and Particle Guns—from the dozen or so other Mechas.

The Power of a High-Frequency Laser Cannon was already apocalyptic to an individual, but against a Mecha, its threat level was insufficient. Furthermore, Yang Bo’s Mecha was forged by Dimension Company using Energy Metal. This meant the Mecha’s very material contained Energy, and the Energy supplied by its modified battery further strengthened its defenses.

Yang Bo hadn’t even counted how many enemy Mechas were left. Due to their fierce firepower, the warning alarms inside his cockpit blared incessantly, and the Energy Shield on his left hand flashed repeatedly from the impacts.

Jumping slash, Thrusting Slash!

Eventually, it evolved into Yang Bo chasing the dozen or so Mechas around. These remaining Mechas scrambled in every direction. One Mecha took flight, only to be hit by Yang Bo’s Heaven-Reaching Slash. It couldn’t be helped; the ceiling height here was limited. Running on the ground without communicating with each other even led to them getting hit by friendly fire or crashing into one another.

Suddenly, a massive hole appeared in the giant dome, sending countless fragments cascading down.

"Run!" he thought, as he had been keeping an eye on the outside for a while. Seeing the massive hole open up in the dome, he jolted to attention and immediately made a break for it.

Many Genetic Evolvers, seeing the dome breached, transformed into streaks of light and rushed toward the hole. Some even carried their families with them. Among them, that Speaker whatever-his-name-was was hoisted up by two burly men and flown out.

With an Impact Slash, Yang Bo slew another Mecha. Then, with a leap, his Mecha viciously stomped down on the second Mecha he had previously crippled. That Mecha’s legs had been severed, rendering it uncontrollable. The pilot couldn’t even open the hatch because the control hub was largely destroyed; they could only watch in despair as a massive Mecha foot descended from the sky. Another Mecha, its shoulder severed, kept twitching uncontrollably. Yang Bo sliced its cockpit open with a single strike.

Right at this moment, the dome shattered again. This time, it was Sky Fighters making their entry.

Yang Bo, who was near the stage basement, shuddered and immediately rushed into it, rapidly stripping off his clothes while still inside the Mecha.

Inside the stage basement, several people were gathered around Li Aiduo. Among them was an ordinary-looking middle-aged man with a swollen hand, staring vigilantly into the distance. Yang Bo wasn’t very familiar with this basement either, but upon entering, he realized it was vast. With a simple whistle, the resulting Sound Wave Detection allowed him to map out the general layout of the surroundings.

On Li Aiduo’s side, the middle-aged man breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing the Mecha’s sounds fade away.

Yang Bo was ecstatic as he watched himself activate Invisibility the moment he stepped out of the Mecha. Earlier, when he took out the Mecha on the stage, he had spawned directly inside the cockpit. This time, when he retracted the Mecha back into the Alternate Space, he didn’t open the cockpit hatch; he simply landed on the ground utilizing Invisibility while the Mecha entered the Alternate Space. This way, no one would be able to see him when he summoned or stored his Mecha in the future.

As for the Black Armor Set he had stripped off from someone else, he just left that thing inside the Mecha’s cockpit, storing it in the Alternate Space along with the Mecha. He did this because he wasn’t sure if his own DNA was left on the Battle Armor.

Following the layout mapped by his earlier Sound Wave Detection, Yang Bo, maintaining his Invisibility, smoothly made his way to the spectator stands. By this time, several Air-Ground Combat Aircraft were hovering over the dome concert area. The Mechas that Yang Bo hadn’t slain had already been blown to pieces, with the resulting explosions catching some unfortunate spectators in the crossfire.
