Chapter 103: The Tiger-faced King Went Visiting Again
Chapter 103: Chapter 103: The Tiger-faced King Went Visiting Again
Yang Bo operated the Mecha to leap into the air once again. The Warplanes in the distance saw a Mecha roaring across the sky, while the Mutants below quickly fled before they were noticed.
The Mutants had the ability to hide in this grassland, making Reconnaissance from the Warplanes above completely impossible.
"Huh? Why can’t we contact the Warplanes?" Yang Bo had just had a scare, terrified that it would spell trouble if the Warplanes contacted him. To his surprise, the Mecha couldn’t connect with them at all.
The female officer sitting behind him muttered, "Maybe it’s due to electromagnetic interference, or perhaps there’s a problem with this Mecha’s communication system?"
"Bullshit," Yang Bo muttered in his heart. However, he soon formed a guess. He reasoned that this Mecha was a remote-controlled unit custom-made for game players. The Warplanes likely belonged to the Fleet and had absolutely no knowledge of this operation. Perhaps only the various Sentry Bases could communicate with the Mechas.
Yang Bo’s guess was spot on. Players remotely controlling Mechas was a classified operation known only to a few high-ranking officials in the Fleet. The pilots operating the Warplanes were kept in the dark, so no communication channels existed between them.
With the Mecha, his movement speed increased drastically. Yang Bo didn’t travel in a straight line, knowing that if the Mutants spotted him, they might start Tracking him.
Looking at the sparrows flying about and other small animals, Yang Bo fought back the urge to shoot them with the Laser Cannon. If it weren’t for the officer sitting behind him, he would have started blasting those creatures long ago.
"I wonder where the Mutants that grant Invisibility are. I need to look for them."
More than an hour later, Yang Bo arrived at the mountainous area. However, looking at the mountains, he felt a bit suspicious.
"Officer, Outpost 15 is over there, but where is Outpost 16?" Yang Bo piloted the Mecha to stand atop the mountain, looking down from a commanding height. He could see far into the surrounding distance, where numerous Warplanes were firing Lasers, and the Warships in the sky were also unleashing beams of Lasers.
"Outpost 16 is on the other side of the grassland." The female officer’s words from behind nearly broke Yang Bo’s composure.
Yang Bo felt that this female officer was his absolute bane. Although there was nothing overtly wrong with her, he couldn’t help but feel incredibly uncomfortable around her. He wondered why being with this woman made him want to grab an Energy Weapon and hack someone to pieces.
"Officer, what should we do now?" Yang Bo had no idea what his next step should be. If he were alone, he would have simply dived into the Underworld. Now, he had to figure out a way to ditch the officer.
"I don’t know either. The battle over at the outpost still looks very intense. My suggestion is to wait here for a bit," the female officer said after a moment of hesitation.
"What exactly did the Mutants deploy? How can the battle still be so intense despite the attacks from so many Warplanes and Warships?" Yang Bo asked, looking into the distance with a hint of confusion.
With the attack frequency of both the Warplanes and Warships, he wondered what kind of Mutants could possibly hold out until now.
"The Mutants’ Biological Mechas aren’t easily locked onto. Their Biological Mechas can alter their attributes and composition. Most Mutants are also skilled at hiding. Once they conceal themselves in the grassland, the Warplanes and Warships can’t get a lock on them.
"This planet itself carries strange Energy Fluctuations that have a massive impact on technological products, especially the automatic targeting systems of Lasers.
"It’s a pity that the planetary alert system was destroyed. Otherwise, its multi-faceted radar array could lock onto targets. However, targets within the grassland still wouldn’t be easy to track. Furthermore, the Rail Cannon consumes a vast amount of Energy. Using it to kill individual Mutants, especially Low Level Mutants, simply isn’t worth the cost." This time, the female officer explained in much greater detail.
The female officer herself didn’t know why she was talking so much; she wouldn’t normally speak this much in ten days. Yang Bo was making her increasingly unable to read the situation.
Yang Bo, of course, knew that there was something on this planet interfering with radar, and the effect only grew stronger the deeper one went underground.
The last time he took a Mecha underground, the radar was severely affected. This was perhaps the biggest reason why humanity had yet to conquer this planet.
What Yang Bo couldn’t figure out, however, was why his gaming experience remained incredibly smooth if the radar was so heavily impacted. He wondered if the two operated on completely different systems.
Yang Bo had a lingering feeling. Did the female officer know that he wanted to gather more information?
He muttered inwardly, wondering what this woman’s Superpower was. Could it be something similar to the Mind Reading Technique?
Beneath her Helmet, the female officer furrowed her brows slightly. She couldn’t clearly see what the corporal in front of her was thinking at all.
Moreover, she simply couldn’t see through him. Despite her high level of Perception, she inexplicably couldn’t tell whether he was speaking the truth or lying. This would have been completely impossible in the past.
She was an A-grade Mental Type Evolver. Unless she was dealing with someone of the same rank, she could discern the truth behind every word, smile, and gesture of anyone else.
Yet, this lowly soldier gave her the impression that everything he said was true, while simultaneously feeling like it was all a lie, leaving her with a sense of half-truths.
Furthermore, the Energy Fluctuations he emitted while clearing the path earlier felt extremely bizarre, as if it were something she had never perceived before.
A silence fell over the Mecha’s cockpit.
The eerie atmosphere made Yang Bo slightly uncomfortable, so he spoke up, "How about we go check out the other outposts? Waiting here isn’t a solution."
"Alright," the female officer agreed without hesitation.
Yang Bo was truly speechless. He had only suggested it hoping she would disagree, which would give him the perfect excuse to part ways with her.
"Do you have something on your mind?" The female officer clearly sensed Yang Bo’s slight displeasure after she agreed, prompting her to ask.
Yang Bo was startled, feeling even more convinced that this female officer was far from simple.
"I do have an idea. Since these Mutants are attacking our outposts, doesn’t that mean their lairs are much emptier now? How about we go over there and take a look?" Yang Bo was just looking for a chance to ditch the woman. If she agreed to his idea, he would pilot the Mecha to the underground tunnels with her and then find an excuse to slip away, like needing to use the restroom.
"The Mutants’ lairs are very well hidden. Plus, they operate on a tribal system, so there will definitely be enough guards inside. The conflicts between the various Mutant tribes are severe. Even if they temporarily rally to attack us, the tribes will still leave enough manpower behind," the female officer explained.
"Alright then. How about Outpost 16?"
"Outpost 16 is just across the grassland. The grassland used to be relatively safe, but it’s hard to say now. Everything is in chaos, and there might be Mutants everywhere."
"That’s fine. Let’s go to Outpost 16." Yang Bo just wanted to drop this female officer off at Outpost 16 so he could go check on the Iron Bulls and farm some Skills along the way. He deeply regretted greeting this woman earlier; he should have just taken the route under the lake by himself.
