Chapter 304: Trigger Word
Chapter 304: Trigger Word
Chen Wuji climbed over the edge of the mountain peak, his breath heavy.
“What the hell was up with that tribulation? I almost died,” he thought bitterly, his jaw clenched in frustration.
He was particularly angry because it seemed the elder assigned to watch over them hadn’t bothered to come save him when he was in danger. He’d been forced to use his own precious treasures to escape the deadly lightning strikes, and he’d even lost a few of his followers in the process.
“Hmph, all those Integration realm powerhouses are always so full of themselves,” he muttered under his breath, his hands clenching into fists.
“Always acting as if everyone else in the world is beneath them.”
“Just you wait,” he thought with determination burning in his eyes. “One day, I’ll also reach that realm. No, I’ll reach the legendary Tribulation Transcendence realm just like the sect master.”
As these thoughts filled his mind, his eyes finally noticed something that made him freeze completely.
A few feet away from where he stood, sat a woman of incredible beauty. Her long white hair swayed gently in the mountain breeze, floating as if charged by lightning.
The sight was so breathtaking that it left him completely mesmerized.
As he stood there staring in stunned silence, the sounds of his remaining companions finally reached his ears. “Senior Brother, wait for us!” they called out breathlessly as they struggled to climb up. But when they finally crested the edge and saw what had captured his attention, they too froze in place.
“A fairy?” one of them spoke unconsciously.
Chen Wuji thought to himself that it truly was a fairy. She was even more beautiful than his arrogant junior sister who always put on airs back at the sect.
He was about to speak up and introduce himself, but he suddenly froze as Li Yao slowly opened her eyes. Her cold gaze met theirs and the temperature suddenly went down.
“You’re finally here,” Li Yao spoke.
Chen Wuji was confused at first, but then a wide smile spread across his face.
“As expected,” he thought, “the fairy was actually waiting for me. I always knew I was the chosen one.”
He stretched out his hand confidently and tried moving forward to properly meet the fairy, but he suddenly discovered that he couldn’t move at all. His body felt as if it had been encased in a solid block of ice, completely immobilizing him.
“Eh? Eh? Eeeh?”
He struggled desperately, panic beginning to set in as he realized something was terribly wrong. Before him, he saw the fairy’s cold gaze intensify, her lips moving slightly though he couldn’t make out the words clearly from this distance.
Was she calling for him? Just as this thought crossed his mind, he suddenly heard a whisper reach his ears: “Don’t look at me with those disgusting eyes.”
His eyes widened in shock, not just because of the words, but because the fairy was now standing directly in front of him. Her sword just inches away from cleaving his head clean off.
Suddenly, she didn’t look like a fairy anymore but rather the goddess of death.
“Oh no! Save me!” he tried to shout, but he still couldn’t move or speak.
Suddenly, the icy prison shattered around him.
He gasped desperately for air as he felt himself being freed from the frozen space.
“Get lost!” The words weren’t spoken by the fairy this time, but came from a deep, masculine voice.
Before he could fully process what was happening, he found himself flying through the air together with his remaining men.
Below, where he had just been standing moments before, he saw a figure in elder’s robes land before the white-haired fairy.
“So you finally showed up,” he thought.
…
“That’s enough, don’t go too far,” the elder spoke.
“Aren’t you going to come out?” he continued, his gaze sweeping across the surrounding area.
“Were you going to let your disciple kill my Heavenly Palace’s disciples?”
He thought to himself that he had been sensing a really powerful Integration realm cultivator in this area. It was a new aura he hadn’t encountered before.
The spiritual pressure was quite strong, making him curious about which faction this expert was from. Although they were all from Holy Lands, none of them had a clear gauge of each other’s true powers, so he had been hoping to gather more info about this new expert.
Even after obviously provoking the other party by entering their divine sense area and probing it endlessly, as well as allowing his disciples to enter and disturb an important breakthrough session, it seemed this hidden expert still wasn’t willing to reveal themselves.
Li Yao instantly recognized the misunderstanding but didn’t bother correcting it.
“What going too far? They clearly started it,” Li Yao said with a dismissive wave of her hand.
The elder’s lips twitching slightly.
This girl was really audacious, daring to speak so directly to someone of his cultivation level and status.
He had observed her breakthrough attempt and could tell that she had a solid foundation. Though he couldn’t tell exactly how much because his divine sense had been restricted, he could guess as much due to the duration of the tribulation.
Still, where exactly did she get such overwhelming confidence? If he didn’t want to gather more information about her backer, he would have destroyed her long ago.
He forced his expression into a smile.
“I’m sorry about that. The disciples can be a little unruly sometimes, they accidentally walked in on your tribulation. I hope you don’t take it to heart.”
“Tribulation? Who cares about that?” Li Yao retorted. “He dared to stare at senior brother’s property—”
As the words left her mouth, she suddenly noticed the elder’s blank expression, and it was then that she realized what she had just said out loud.
Her cheeks flushed slightly with embarrassment.
“Ahem,” she cleared her throat hastily, trying to recover her composure. “He dares to stare at me like that. Not even the Yellow River could wash away his sins.”
[-_-]
The elder stared at her for a long moment, wondering if she was just going to pretend she hadn’t just referred to herself as property.
He shook his head to dismiss those thoughts. This girl clearly wasn’t entirely right in the head so there was no need to bother with her.
She had mentioned having a senior brother, could this be the powerful cultivator he had been sensing?
“Where is this senior brother of yours? I’d love to have a word with him,” he said.
As he spoke these words, Li Yao suddenly felt a sharp pain shoot through her head, causing her to instinctively hold her face with one hand.
“Dammit, calm down,” she whispered.
As the pain gradually receded, she stretched her hands and looked back at the elder.
“Is the senior brother scared?” He asked mockingly. “Senior brother! Senior brother!”
Suddenly, the world froze around him and his eyes locked with Li Yao’s who had just teleported before him.
“You really should stop saying that word, a part of me is quite sensitive to it.”
