I See Murders Before They Happen

Chapter 264 - 262: You Are Also My Sister

Chapter 264: Chapter 262: You Are Also My Sister

An electric current shot through her body, and her head ached as if it had been split by an axe.

Su Miaoyi opened her eyes in the darkness.

The pain from her wounds brought her back to her senses, pulling her out of her memories.

The anesthetic had worn off, and the wound on her arm hurt even more.

She pictured the man’s face but couldn’t recall his name. She couldn’t remember where she had lived in Country D, either.

Her memories were fragmented, impossible to piece together.

She stared into the pitch-black room, motionless for a long time.

She didn’t move until the doorbell rang. After sitting on the sofa for another moment, she got up to answer it.

Shen Yanzhou stood outside. His eyes went to her face first, then widened in shock when he saw she was covered in injuries.

Su Miaoyi watched the muscles in his face tense, his eyes filled with anguish.

He frowned. "You’re this badly hurt. What are you doing at home instead of in a hospital?!"

Su Miaoyi blinked.

Shen Yanzhou strode into the room and flipped on the lights.

He grabbed a coat from the rack and draped it over her shoulders. "To the hospital."

"I don’t need it." As Su Miaoyi spoke, she started to shrug off the coat.

Shen Yanzhou held the coat in place. "If you don’t want Aunt to come here right now, you’ll listen to me and go to the hospital."

He finished speaking and reached for her arm, but hesitated, not knowing where to put his hand.

It was completely wrapped in gauze, and he worried he’d press on a wound. In the end, he placed a hand on her back and gently pushed her out the door.

Su Miaoyi kept her gaze lowered. ’What a pain,’ she thought.

But she was worried he really would call Shen Shilan, so she followed him.

Shen Yanzhou looked grim the entire way. Once they arrived at the hospital, he immediately had her admitted and arranged for a series of tests, starting with a blood draw.

Su Miaoyi barely spoke, except to answer the doctor’s questions about her symptoms.

Back in the hospital room with an IV drip in her arm, Su Miaoyi leaned against the headboard.

Shen Yanzhou returned to the room after speaking with the doctor. "Want some water?"

Su Miaoyi shook her head.

Seeing her dry lips, Shen Yanzhou went and poured her a glass of warm water anyway.

When he offered her the water, Su Miaoyi took it and drank the entire glass in one go.

Shen Yanzhou poured another glass and set it on the nightstand.

"Why don’t you lie down? Are you uncomfortable?"

Su Miaoyi glanced at him, then slid down the bed and lay flat.

Shen Yanzhou helped her, adjusted her pillow, and pulled the blanket up over her.

Su Miaoyi glanced left and right before fixing her gaze on the IV bag, watching the fluid fall one drop at a time.

Shen Yanzhou sat in the chair beside her bed, watching her.

After about ten minutes, seeing that she was still staring at the IV, Shen Yanzhou asked, "Are you not sleepy?"

With so many injuries and a high fever, her complexion was awful.

But her expression remained cold as she stared at that single spot. Not a trace of fatigue showed in her eyes.

It was as if she were wide awake, constantly vigilant of her surroundings.

Su Miaoyi turned her gaze to him.

"Zhuang Yanzheng said... you’re a different personality right now," Shen Yanzhou said.

"He tells you everything," Su Miaoyi said flatly.

"Then do you know who I am?" Shen Yanzhou asked.

"I know all of her memories and the people she’s met, from the time she returned from the dead last year until now," Su Miaoyi said.

"Besides you and her, are there any other personalities?" Shen Yanzhou asked.

"No."

"Do you share memories?" Shen Yanzhou asked.

He’d been at a dinner party earlier when Zhuang Yanzheng called him.

On the drive back to Weiyang Palace, he had contacted a doctor friend to ask about multiple personalities.

The doctor had said that, generally, personalities don’t share memories, which leads to blackouts.

However, cases where they do share memories or can even communicate with each other also exist.

"They used to be shared. But now..." Su Miaoyi said, "she won’t remember this conversation. When she wakes up in a few days, she’ll have a memory gap."

Shen Yanzhou frowned. "When did you first appear?"

"I can’t remember."

Shen Yanzhou stared at her.

Su Miaoyi met his gaze for a moment. "Don’t worry, your precious baby sister isn’t going to disappear."

"You’re my sister, too," Shen Yanzhou said.

Su Miaoyi’s lips parted slightly, but she said nothing.

Shen Yanzhou said, "Get some sleep."

Su Miaoyi still didn’t speak.

"Why are your eyes so wide? Are you afraid I’m going to hurt you?" Shen Yanzhou said. "It’s safe here. I’m not going anywhere. Sleep."

Su Miaoyi glanced at him.

"Go on, sleep."

After a moment of silence, Su Miaoyi closed her eyes. It wasn’t long before she was sound asleep.

Shen Yanzhou looked at her deathly pale face.

He was certain that Qin Leyan hadn’t shown any signs of multiple personalities before she left Jinghai to go undercover.

His doctor friend had said it must have been caused by some kind of severe trauma.

’So... what exactly did she go through as an undercover agent to cause such a cold, silent, and wary personality to emerge?’

Just seeing her lie there so silently was enough to feel the gaping wounds in her soul.

She was shouldering it all, silently and stoically.

Shen Yanzhou bent over slightly, as if to ease the ache in his own chest...

Su Miaoyi slept until morning, and her fever broke.

But she still had to be on an IV drip that morning. With so many wounds, the doctor was worried about infection.

Su Miaoyi first sent a message to Zhuang Yanzheng to ask about Mia’s condition.

Zhuang Yanzheng replied quickly.

It was the same as when she’d asked last night: no new developments, and still no word from Lu Xian.

Su Miaoyi had a bad feeling about the situation. Time was slipping away, and Lu Xian was most likely no longer in Jinghai.

Mia probably didn’t actually know anything.

Since there was nothing for her to do, she just stayed in the hospital and waited for her IV treatments.

Eat, get her IV, sleep.

In two days at the hospital, she ate twelve meals of noodles.

Six meals a day.

All of them noodles.

None of the twelve meals were the same; Shen Yanzhou had people bring her all sorts of different noodle dishes.

He knew that Qin Leyan was fond of noodles.

But even she didn’t like them *this* much.

On the morning of her discharge, she was still served noodles.

After watching her finish, Shen Yanzhou said, "Remember to take your prescription."

Su Miaoyi nodded.

"Are you really going to remember?" Shen Yanzhou pressed.

"No," Su Miaoyi said calmly.

Shen Yanzhou: "..."

Su Miaoyi grabbed her clothes and went into the bathroom to change out of her hospital gown.

When she came out of the bathroom, Zhuang Yanzheng was there.

She glanced at him. "What is it?"

"Nothing, just came to see how you’re doing." Zhuang Yanzheng looked her over. "You’re recovering well."

Su Miaoyi nodded.

Zhuang Yanzheng nodded back. "Right. A woman of few words. If people got paid for being quiet, you’d be a billionaire."

"My family is already rich," Shen Yanzhou said, looking at him. "Did you come empty-handed?"

"You’re always so picky," Zhuang Yanzheng retorted. "The stuff’s in the car. You said she was being discharged. It would’ve been a pain to bring it all the way up just to take it right back down."

"You’re unbelievable." Shen Yanzhou handed him the bag of clothes to carry.

Zhuang Yanzheng took it. "You’re unbelievable."

While the two of them were bickering, Su Miaoyi had already walked out of the room.

Zhuang Yanzheng and Shen Yanzhou exchanged a look. Zhuang Yanzheng said, "She’s annoyed with you."

"She’s annoyed with *you*," Shen Yanzhou said.

"With you."

"With *you*!"

As they bantered back and forth, Su Miaoyi reappeared, taking a few steps back into the room. She stared at their childish display with a deadpan expression, then asked two, completely emotionless words: "Leaving now?"

The two men fell silent and immediately followed her...
