I See Murders Before They Happen

Chapter 211 - 209: Almost Passing Out from Pain, Rushing Back to the Bureau

Chapter 211: Chapter 209: Almost Passing Out from Pain, Rushing Back to the Bureau

Su Miaoyi suddenly clutched her chest, her breathing growing heavier and heavier.

She had been crouching on one knee, but now she suddenly fell to one knee on the ground.

Yan Cheng was closest to her and grabbed her arm. "What’s wrong?"

Su Miaoyi couldn’t speak, only gasp for breath.

"Sister Miaomiao, what’s the matter?" Chu Xingrou immediately knelt beside her.

Lu Zhishen and Zhuang Yanzheng came over as well.

Yan Cheng held her arm, feeling her tremble. "Su Miaoyi?"

Zhuang Yanzheng also called out her name when he saw how her face had instantly gone pale.

But she didn’t answer.

Yan Cheng felt the taut muscles in her arm. "Take her to the hospital."

Zhuang Yanzheng was about to pick her up and carry her to the car for the hospital. Just as he bent down, Su Miaoyi plopped onto the ground and pressed down on his outstretched hand.

Zhuang Yanzheng froze.

Su Miaoyi took a few more deep breaths. She was still trembling slightly, but she could speak now. She said hurriedly, "Be careful. HIV. Positive."

She spoke while still gasping for air.

Hearing her words, a look of shock and tension appeared on Yan Cheng’s usually calm face. "Everyone, don’t touch anything else. I’ll handle the inspection from here. Check your hands and the rest of your bodies for any open wounds."

Everyone checked their hands.

Zhuang Yanzheng quickly checked Su Miaoyi’s hands.

"I’m fine." Su Miaoyi’s breathing was still unsteady.

’After pulling away from the vision, I felt the pain had been intense enough to kill me.’

’I wanted to speak but couldn’t get a word out. My whole body was tense and cold, and I had no strength.’

Zhuang Yanzheng and Lu Zhishen checked her arms again.

"I’m really fine," Su Miaoyi said, sitting on the ground.

’I just don’t have the strength to get up right now.’

She looked at Zhuang Yanzheng.

Receiving her gaze, Zhuang Yanzheng said to the people around them, "Everything’s fine here. Go check the surrounding area."

Everyone dispersed.

Only then did Su Miaoyi say, "The murderer is Kang Hong."

"Kang Hong?" Zhuang Yanzheng repeated the name.

"Who’s Kang Hong?" Lu Zhishen asked.

"Someone we arrested a few days ago," Su Miaoyi said. "My blind date."

Lu Zhishen: "?????!?!"

’What does she mean? She went on a blind date and ended up arresting the guy?’

"I suspect Kang Hong has a place in this residential complex," Su Miaoyi said, looking at the apartment buildings in the distance. "I’ve checked the properties registered under his name, and none of them are here."

"We’re checking now," Zhuang Yanzheng said. "If he buried the body here, he most likely lived here too. Was she Kang Hong’s wife?"

"From the conversation I heard, yes. Kang Hong must have known he was HIV positive and seems to have deliberately skipped that test during the prenatal checkup. Later, the woman went for a checkup herself, and the doctor said she needed to make up for the missing test. It came back positive," Su Miaoyi said, looking at the skeleton.

"He’s not even human," Lu Zhishen said.

"But Kang Hong’s records don’t show him as married," Su Miaoyi said. "It seems her family disapproved, so after she got pregnant, she hid from them and told them she was going away to work."

"So Kang Hong killed his own wife and unborn child?" Lu Zhishen said again.

"Yes," Su Miaoyi said. "He was high at the time. He didn’t seem to be in his right mind."

Lu Zhishen shut his mouth, but his expression looked like he was cursing up a storm.

"I’ll make the call to have Kang Hong brought to the Municipal Bureau," Zhuang Yanzheng said.

"We should check the missing persons database," Su Miaoyi said.

"Okay." Zhuang Yanzheng looked at her. "Can you get up?"

"I can now." Su Miaoyi stood up.

"You’re not hurt anywhere, are you?" Lu Zhishen asked.

"I’m fine." Su Miaoyi brushed the dirt off her clothes.

Seeing that she was all right, Zhuang Yanzheng went to make a call.

Lu Zhishen asked, "What just happened?"

"I was empathizing with the deceased. My body hurt, my stomach hurt... the pain was so bad I almost couldn’t breathe," Su Miaoyi said.

"You gave me quite a scare. I thought something was about to happen to my snack buddy." As Lu Zhishen spoke, he walked over to help.

Su Miaoyi watched his retreating back, then turned to look at Chu Xingrou, who was crouching not far behind her.

When Chu Xingrou saw her looking, she quickly lowered her head, pretending she hadn’t heard anything.

Su Miaoyi didn’t say anything either. The case was the priority; they needed to investigate first.

They packed up the skeleton, ready to take it back.

By noon, they had located Kang Hong’s residence within the complex.

Kang Hong had rented an apartment in this complex.

The apartment was now occupied by other tenants.

The police went door-to-door with Kang Hong’s photo and actually found someone who knew him—a former neighbor who used to live below Kang Hong and would hear them arguing upstairs every few days.

He couldn’t make out what they were arguing about, as the soundproofing was actually pretty good.

But he could hear a woman’s shouting. This downstairs neighbor had knocked on their door a few times in the middle of the night to tell them to stop arguing, so he had met Kang Hong.

The neighbor wasn’t sure when Kang Hong moved out, saying he thought it was over a year or two ago.

Judging from the apartment Kang Hong had rented, he likely moved out over two years ago.

Because there had been three sets of tenants in the past two years.

They also contacted the landlord, who told them that the apartment had undergone a major renovation a year ago. The floors were replaced, and the walls were repainted.

He said that the apartment was nicely furnished when he bought it, but the floorboards had started to warp, so he had them ripped out and replaced.

Never mind three sets of tenants; after such a thorough renovation, it would be impossible to find any remaining traces of evidence.

After noon, they drove back to the Municipal Bureau.

Su Miaoyi was driving, with Chu Xingrou in the passenger seat. Zhuang Yanzheng and Lu Zhishen were in the back.

"One murder case after another," Lu Zhishen said, twirling a pencil in his hand. "And they’re all cold cases. The surveillance footage is useless, and a lot of the evidence has disappeared. They’re hard to investigate."

Zhuang Yanzheng looked at the files sent over from the bureau. "Kang Hong hasn’t confessed to anything. Two days have passed, and what he’s admitted to is about the same as what you told me that night."

"He didn’t confess before because he was afraid of a heavy sentence. Now, with two lives on his hands, there’s no escape for him either way," Su Miaoyi said.

Sitting in the passenger seat, Chu Xingrou glanced at them but said nothing.

"If Kang Hong is refusing to talk, it’s likely because there’s something even more serious he’s hiding," Zhuang Yanzheng said. "Perhaps we can uncover more by following his trail."

Lu Zhishen twirled the pencil for a while longer, then put it in his pocket and took out his phone. "This area is pretty close to Wanxiang Village."

Su Miaoyi glanced back through the rearview mirror.

"You think the two cases are related?" Zhuang Yanzheng asked.

Lu Zhishen shook his head. "I don’t know. There’s no evidence pointing to a connection, so I can’t say for sure. I’m just curious why Kang Hong moved here. This place is pretty remote. Based on his file, it’s far from his workplace and very inconvenient. Plus, he has another apartment in the city that he’s rented for years."

Su Miaoyi had searched that long-term rental and found D-grade substances inside.

"Did the woman work nearby?" Lu Zhishen added. "Were they living here to hide from her parents?"

Zhuang Yanzheng looked at him and nodded. "We still need to confirm the victim’s identity first."

Hearing their conversation, Su Miaoyi couldn’t help but step on the gas, anxious to get back to the Municipal Bureau.

Zhuang Yanzheng gripped the back of her seat, looked at the speedometer, and said through clenched teeth, "That’s three points."

Su Miaoyi glanced in the rearview mirror and quickly slowed down.

Zhuang Yanzheng leaned back in his seat and sighed...
