Chapter 134 - 110: Inspecting the Company
Chapter 134: Chapter 110: Inspecting the Company
The food company had always been a major concern weighing on Ning He’s mind. The sooner she sorted it out, the sooner the "contraband" in her house would no longer be a risk.
Ning He arrived early at the location she had arranged with Julie.
Most of Beiluo City’s food companies were built on the Fifth Ring, where there was plenty of open space. A few larger ones were located outside the city, protected by dedicated armed forces. The Alliance’s large-scale production bases, for example, were outside the city.
However, when Ning He got there, she didn’t see the rows of factory buildings she had imagined. Her view consisted of a few small, isolated cement houses, rows of solar panels in some places, and nothing but bare ground otherwise.
To prevent seeds from mutated species outside the city from flying in, taking root, and invading, all bare ground within the city was regularly sanitized to eliminate any possibility of seeds sprouting. As a result, not a single blade of grass grew on the ground, making it look like a barren plain.
Combined with the howling wind and gloomy weather, it really felt like being exiled to a desolate land.
Ning He waited for a few minutes before Julie arrived. The two quickly went over the information on the first company.
"This one is under a well-known food chain company from the Alliance. They’re planning to sell it because it’s not very profitable. The pros are that it’s fully staffed and equipped, so you can start production immediately after taking over. The con is that the price is quite high. The estimated acquisition price is around five hundred thousand, but they’ll accept installment payments."
"Alright, let’s go take a look." The price was still within Ning He’s acceptable range. Most importantly, it would be hassle-free. Wasting no time, she followed Julie to one of the small cement houses.
Julie pressed the electronic doorbell, and someone quickly responded. After she stated who she was, the gate in front of them slowly opened, revealing a surprisingly spacious elevator inside.
Ning He waved to the person behind her.
"Keep up."
The young man hesitated for a moment but ultimately entered the elevator with them.
After descending about three floors, the elevator doors opened to a brightly lit passageway. A man in a work uniform was waiting to the side.
"Miss Zhu Li, it’s a pleasure to see you again." The man seemed to be an old acquaintance of Julie’s and enthusiastically extended his hand.
Julie shook his hand and passed him a small bag she was holding.
"A small gift for Laura. Please give it to her for me."
"Ah, you’re too kind! She’ll be delighted!" The man accepted the gift, his gaze toward Ning He and her companion filled with warmth. "Are these the guests here for the tour today? I’m the supervisor here, Li Ou. Please, follow me. If you have any questions along the way, I’ll be happy to answer them for you."
"Thank you."
Ning He nodded, mentally giving Julie a thumbs-up.
’With an experienced industry professional explaining things, they could avoid as many pitfalls as possible.’
The three of them followed Li Ou into the production workshop.
Although it was underground, the entire space was brightly lit, as if it were daytime. The lights were lined up one after another, too numerous to count.
"The first room is our nursery. Seed selection and the first phase of seedling cultivation are all completed here. Our nursery is staffed by professionals who control the temperature and humidity, which allows us to guarantee a seedling success rate of over 95%. Please feel free to look around."
"I’ll take you up on that."
Ning He was very interested in the nursery. The system’s warehouse was stocked with ordinary plantable soil, which didn’t have any accelerating buffs. This kind of scientific cultivation technology could significantly speed up germination. Although it couldn’t compare to the black mud, it was essential for actual production.
The nursery was divided into two rooms, left and right. The left was a cleaning and preparation room where large quantities of black sponges were being washed. Li Ou explained from the side.
"These are the sponges used for germination. The selected seeds are placed individually into the holes of the sponges, put into germination trays, and then placed on the germination racks. Our workshop processes about twenty-five kilograms of seeds every day."
Ning He observed the uniformly distributed, soybean-sized holes in the black sponges and nodded to show she understood.
"The prepared seeds are first placed in these light-blocking, enclosed germination boxes. Once they sprout and grow to a height of four centimeters, they are transferred to the seedling room on the other side. Please follow me."
The three of them followed him to the seedling room on the right. It was a room ten meters deep and only three meters wide, lined on both sides with aluminum racks taller than a person. The racks were divided into four or five tiers, spaced about forty centimeters apart, each holding white plastic boards filled with tender young vegetable seedlings.
"This is the second stage of seedling cultivation. The sprouted seeds are all brought here, separated into individual plants, and then placed into new boards to continue growing. Once they develop a complete root system, they are moved to the main workshop for the third stage."
