Chapter 134 - 112: So Our Mysterious Neighbor Is You
Chapter 134: Chapter 112: So Our Mysterious Neighbor Is You
Shu Yao dazedly followed the butler robot through the electronic gate, across the wide courtyard, and stopped beside a smart fountain that had been built at some unknown time.
She was certain she hadn’t seen it the last time she was here with her mom.
In the blink of an eye, the butler robot was gone.
A tall, slender figure appeared, carrying a cool fragrance reminiscent of pine.
It was all so familiar.
Shu Yao was pulled into a tight embrace from behind.
From the reflection in the fountain, she had already seen his familiar face.
Seeing her surprised expression in the reflection as well, the man let out a soft chuckle.
"So..." Shu Yao slowly put it all together. "Our... our mysterious new neighbor... is you?!"
Qin Shiwei looked like the triumphant winner of a game of hide-and-seek, his smug expression seeming to say:
’Surprise! Bet you didn’t see that coming!’
Shu Yao spun around and gave him a playful punch. "You should have told me! We live so close, yet you still snuck into my place to sleep every night. Are you an idiot? If I came over to your place, couldn’t we do all sorts of things that are... inconvenient at mine?"
"I’ll give you full access."
With full access, Shu Yao would be able to come and go as she pleased and use anything in the house without needing Qin Shiwei’s permission.
Even the butler robot would have to address her respectfully as "Mistress."
Shu Yao hadn’t expected he would go to such lengths for her.
She pinched his chin, her heart aching for him. "Isn’t this a bit unfair to you?"
"A little," Qin Shiwei said, putting on a show. He sniffled, feigning a wronged expression. "How are you going to make it up to me?"
"Then I’ll give you the chance to take me for a spin outside!" Shu Yao hugged his arm, swaying it coaxingly. "I’ve lived my whole life without ever seeing what the world is like outside the Federation. Commander, will you take me to see it? Please?"
Her eyes were dark and sparkling.
How could Qin Shiwei possibly resist that?
’But this wasn’t what he’d had in mind just now.’
Qin Shiwei saw her onto a Flying Machine and took her to the port in the Fourth District, where they transferred to a spaceship he had requisitioned with his authority.
The spaceship departed from the port, speeding toward the brilliant sea of stars.
The Interstellar Federation was an artificial space station. In reality, it was a colossal manned spacecraft, a truly spectacular sight!
In front of it, the spaceship carrying Shu Yao and Qin Shiwei was like a tiny speck of dust.
In the cockpit, Qin Shiwei raised the blast shields, revealing a specially made observation window.
Myriad galaxies glittered, a dazzling panorama.
The beauty before her made Shu Yao suddenly understand why some people would rather be cosmic nomads or even Star Thieves, choosing to drift through such a vast universe.
Even if it meant wandering without a destination.
Every glance was breathtaking!
Qin Shiwei switched on the autopilot and came to Shu Yao’s side, quietly sharing the moment with her.
The spaceship seemed to be ascending.
They were almost level with the highest point of the Interstellar Federation’s hull.
At that altitude was an Observatory, a famous dating spot in the Federation.
Shu Yao glanced at him out of the corner of her eye and asked quietly, "Why didn’t you take me to see what’s down below?"
Qin Shiwei froze for a second, then pressed his lips into a thin line.
After a moment of silence, a mechanical voice sounded:
"My apologies, Madam. The Master engaged the autopilot. I presumed you would prefer the view from up high, so I took the liberty of bringing the ship to this location."
It was the first time Shu Yao had heard the voice of the Main Brain.
The voice was mechanical and cold, yet it also held a deep wisdom—sonorous and mysterious.
Compared to the Main Brain, her Light Brain seemed like a simple, single-celled organism that only knew how to obey its master’s commands.
’Like a father and his son, maybe,’ she thought.
The lowest level of the Interstellar Federation’s hull was completely sealed, without a single transparent window. That was Zone 9.
The place where Shu Yao once lived.
She patted the man beside her, who seemed lost in thought. "I’ll take you down there for a look sometime."
"There’s no time like the present," the man said. "Let’s go now."
"Now isn’t a good time." Her expression grew distant, her thoughts seemingly elsewhere.
"Why not?" the man asked, confused.
A chilling, eerie smile suddenly touched Shu Yao’s lips.
"Do you really think the battle for Ice City is over?"
Qin Shiwei was taken aback. "What did you say?!"
"There are many things that no one would believe if I told them right now." Shu Yao’s eyes turned dark and menacing. "If it weren’t for our son, I might never have left Zone 9. If you can, please ask Your Majesty to halt the immigration plan for Zone 9."
