Chapter 469: Chapter 218: Is There a Problem with Me Dating Your Mom? (Part 2)
’Hmph! That idiot Shen Yuan likes black stockings, doesn’t he? Fine, I’ll be magnanimous and wear them for you just once!’
But the moment she had that thought, Li Zhi wanted to die.
’I’m going to die of embarrassment.’
With a complex mix of self-loathing and a faint thrill, Li Zhi finally opened her sock drawer.
Her gaze fell upon several pairs of black stockings, but it quickly settled on a pair of soft, thick black tights.
’It’s the middle of winter. Even with the heat on, I can’t really wear those sheer stockings!’
’As long as they show off the shape of my legs, that’s good enough!’
In the end, Li Zhi’s modesty won out, and she compromised by choosing a slightly darker, thicker pair of black tights.
’Anyway, it’s only a short walk from my house to Shen Yuan’s. I don’t need to dress too warmly; a down jacket will be enough.’
’Okay, since I’m doing this, what should I wear with the tights?’
’A short skirt?’
’Aaaah!!’
’Li Zhi, you’re really insane.’
While the pretty girl was mentally roasting herself and a certain Selaan, she made her decision.
At this, the tips of the girl’s ears quietly flushed an even deeper shade of red.
’Mmm... I should take a shower!’
Just as Li Zhi made her decision, Shen Yuan happened to be walking into his bathroom.
Unbeknownst to one another, they were both getting ready for the coming New Year’s Eve.
It was as if... they were both getting ready for a first date.
After his shower, Shen Yuan quickly retrieved the projector from his parents’ room.
’Act first, report later.’
’I’ll just tell Mom and Dad when they get back. I’m sure they won’t object.’
Just as Shen Yuan was fiddling with the projector, his parents got home.
"Shen Yuan?!"
The voice of Ms. Zhang Yuyan came from outside his room, and Shen Yuan quickly darted out.
He saw his mom changing her shoes in the entryway, with Old Shen right behind her.
"What’s up?"
"Oh, just making sure you were home."
Zhang Yuyan slipped on her slippers and headed for the living room, unwrapping her scarf. "Do you want to go out to eat?"
The words were barely out of her mouth when Shen Yuan started shaking his head vigorously.
"No, no, no! Let’s not. Let’s just eat at home! It’s such a pain to go out right now. We’d have to wait forever for a table!"
Shen Yuan’s refusal was adamant, his words tumbling out a little faster than usual.
’Are you kidding me? Going out to eat is out of the question.’
’If I go out, what about Li Bao?’
Hearing this, Ms. Zhang Yuyan nodded. "Then you can just eat at home."
"Huh?"
Shen Yuan froze. ’What does that mean?’
"Your dad and I are planning to go out," Zhang Yuyan stated plainly. "Since you don’t want to, you can just stay home."
Shen Yuan blinked.
’Well, that’s just like my mom.’
"Wait, then what am I supposed to eat?"
The words had just left his mouth when his phone went DING.
Old Shen’s voice chimed in right on cue. "I just transferred you some money. Buy yourself whatever you want to eat."
"Making me order takeout on New Year’s Eve... Am I adopted or something?"
Zhang Yuyan rolled her eyes at him. "I’ll send you another 200. Take it or leave it."
"I’ll take it, I’ll take it!" Shen Yuan beamed.
’Just one sentence and I got another 200 from Mom.’
’Besides, them going out to eat is actually a good thing for me!’
"You little brat, don’t just eat junk food."
Zhang Yuyan warned, heading toward the bedroom.
Watching his mom walk towards her bedroom, Shen Yuan suddenly remembered the projector was still sitting in his room, and his heart skipped a beat.
He hurried after her, speaking up just before Ms. Zhang Yuyan could push open the master bedroom door.
"Mom, uh... I moved the projector into my room," Shen Yuan said, his voice quiet, affecting a casualness that betrayed he’d been caught.
Zhang Yuyan’s hand, which had just landed on the doorknob, froze. She paused, turning to shoot him a glare.
"What did you move it for?"
Her voice was laced with suspicion.
Faced with his mom’s scrutinizing gaze, Shen Yuan’s eyes darted away for a second before he confessed, "Er... Li Zhi is coming over tonight... We’re ringing in the new year together."
The words had barely left his lips when he clearly saw his mother’s pupils dilate for a split second with knowing amusement. The corners of her mouth immediately started to curl up into a smile, though she quickly pressed her lips together to hide it.
"Tsk!"
Zhang Yuyan waved a hand dismissively, but her face clearly wore an all-knowing "I knew you were up to something" expression.
"Just make sure you put it back exactly where you found it when you’re done!"
With that, she pushed the door open and went into the bedroom.
Shen Yuan was left standing outside, blinking at the closed bedroom door.
Before Shen Yuan could say another word, Old Shen clapped him on the shoulder and asked jokingly, "Need your mom and me to come home a little later?"
The mischievous quip was like a red-hot poker prodding Shen Yuan’s already frayed nerves.
"Dad!"
Shen Yuan’s face flushed crimson in an instant, the color spreading all the way to his ears and neck. He was so mortified he almost jumped out of his skin.
"Of course not! There’s no need! Absolutely no need for that! Don’t get the wrong idea!!"
Seeing his son’s mortified reaction, the mischievous grin on Old Shen’s face only widened.
The hand on Shen Yuan’s shoulder squeezed a little harder, his fingers giving the muscle a meaningful press.
"Heh," a short chuckle rumbled in Old Shen’s throat. He gave Shen Yuan a meaningful look. "Alright then. No need for that, right?"
He then slowly pulled his hand back, turned, and headed for the bedroom. But just before he left, Old Shen tossed out one last, mildly threatening remark.
"Then that’s for the best."
Shen Yuan stood frozen in place, the heat still burning on his face. He could even feel a phantom warmth on his shoulder where his dad had squeezed it.
Thinking of his dad’s expression, Shen Yuan couldn’t help but grumble, "What the hell is he thinking! My relationship with Li Zhi is totally innocent..."
