Chapter 517 - 510: Little Wukong as Sovereign
Chapter 517: Chapter 510: Little Wukong as Sovereign
Qin Yiming didn’t stay for long, but before he left, he spoke with Du Youqian again: Sui Zhi’s ascension to the Nascent Soul realm would likely happen in sixty to seventy years.
If the Ghost Infant Gu in his body wasn’t removed by then, he would transform into a Ghost Infant during his Nascent Soul Formation, becoming nourishment for the Demon Sect’s Divinity Transformation True Monarch who planted the Gu Insect.
Du Youqian could only nod to show he understood. As for whether he could advance to the Divinity Transformation realm in time to help Sui Zhi, he couldn’t say for sure.
’Do your best and leave the rest to fate,’ he thought.
After holding down the fort in Ruihan City for about a month, Du Youqian once again departed without a word.
His departure caused the two Core Formation Kun Cultivators who had been brought in to "breed" with him to lose face. They clamored to leave, and the Ruihan City Elders had to use every means of persuasion—and spend a considerable amount of Spiritual Jade—to convince them to stay.
The cultivators of Ruihan City were practically washing their faces with tears every day. ’This unreliable ancestor, can’t he be a little more considerate! As the family’s patriarch, having children isn’t just your own business anymore—it concerns the entire family! How can you be so willful!’
It was rumored that several Core Formation Elders were already secretly posting requests to buy aphrodisiac elixirs potent enough to work on even a Nascent Soul Master...
Bringing Little Wukong with him, Du Youqian didn’t bother concealing his appearance and returned to the Chen Kingdom under the identity of Sui Xiao.
He didn’t enter the Capital City, which was protected by a Tier Four Grand Array. Instead, he simply visited a few taverns in the Capital Region, gathering and sorting through the rumors he heard until he had a basic understanding of the Chen Kingdom’s current situation.
The Chen Kingdom wasn’t just in a precarious state; it was on the brink of collapse. By now, news of Chen Hongbo’s death had arrived, and the various factions within the kingdom were already gearing up for a fight, having clashed in several small-scale conflicts.
If no one could mediate or no outside force intervened, a civil war was inevitable.
There was nothing new under the sun.
Every once-powerful kingdom of the Human Race tended to collapse from within.
What weighed even more heavily on the people of the Chen Kingdom was the restless stirring of the surrounding Alien Races.
For example, there was the Red-eyed Stone Dragon clan to the southwest, along with the Red-crowned Sand Stork clan; the Red-Spotted Clouded Leopard Race to the south; and the Howling Moon Wolf Race to the north...
These races all possessed Tier Four combatants. It was only because they were usually disunited that the Chen Kingdom hadn’t already been carved up and turned into a breeding farm for the Demon Race.
But now, with the Chen Kingdom undergoing a massive upheaval, the First Queen, Master Su Quan, missing, and its only remaining Nascent Soul combatant on public record dead, this was a god-sent opportunity for the surrounding Alien Races.
It wasn’t that there were no other Human Race factions around the Chen Kingdom.
But to be fair, Chen Hongbo and Ye Rui Master had previously put on a double act, and their machinations had led to the deaths of many Nascent Soul Masters from the Human Race factions around the Chen Kingdom and Huailai City. Those who survived were severely weakened, and many factions could now only fend for themselves, powerless to aid the Chen Kingdom.
Besides, from a more cynical perspective, it was in the best interest of the neighboring factions to simply stand by and watch.
If the Chen Kingdom were to be conquered by the Demon Race, large numbers of civilians and cultivators would flee to the surrounding territories.
A minority would die in the war and the ensuing exodus.
The majority would likely be raised as livestock, to be sold to cannibalistic races or to the Human Race’s Demon Sect factions.
Under such circumstances, the Chen Kingdom could only wait in despair for its fall. It had no external aid and no strength to save itself.
After staying in the Capital Region of the Chen Kingdom for a while, Du Youqian had a plan.
He could save the Chen Kingdom.
The Chen Kingdom currently lacked a powerful Nascent Soul combatant. All he had to do was step forward, forcefully suppress the infighting factions, and then meet one by one with the surrounding Tier Four Transformed Great Demons of the Alien Races, and he could smoothly resolve this crisis.
As for whether the various factions in the Chen Kingdom would welcome him...
They were getting ahead of themselves.
Right now, the strongest combatants in the Chen Kingdom were only at the Golden Core Late Stage, or at best, Golden Core Perfection.
How much of a say could they possibly have in front of a Nascent Soul Master?
Du Youqian could come and go as he pleased. They couldn’t stop him or stand in his way.
The only problem was that Du Youqian didn’t want to be a volunteer.
He expected to be rewarded for saving the Chen Kingdom.
But he couldn’t stay here long-term to guard it.
And Ruihan City hadn’t produced a second Nascent Soul combatant to watch over the Chen Kingdom.
So, what was the solution?
An idea had struck Du Youqian in a flash of inspiration: leave Little Wukong behind.
Making a Tier Four Demon King the sovereign of a Human Race kingdom seemed like a fantasy at first glance.
But upon further thought, it wasn’t necessarily impossible.
Advantage one of Little Wukong becoming the Lord of Chen: it was a Tier Four combatant.
Disadvantage one: The citizens and cultivators of the Chen Kingdom wouldn’t be able to get over the psychological hurdle of a member of the Demon Race becoming the sovereign of a Human Race kingdom.
Advantage two of Little Wukong becoming the Lord of Chen: Even among Tier Four combatants, it was one of the absolute best.
Disadvantage two: It didn’t know how to handle state affairs or maintain delicate interpersonal relationships.
Advantage three: Little Wukong was a Tier Four combatant, and it had an overpowered cheat like him for a friend.
Disadvantage three: Little Wukong had a restless nature. It would probably spend all day running around causing mischief and could never sit still on a throne.
Advantage four: It was a Tier Four combatant...
Alright, the advantages were too great. This was the plan, then: find a way to push Little Wukong onto the throne of the Lord of Chen!
With his plan in mind, Du Youqian went directly to the Chen Kingdom Capital City, revealed his identity, and requested entry.
Soon, the city gates slowly opened, and a corner of the City Defense Array parted. Two rows of cultivators lined the path to greet him. "We respectfully welcome the Lord of Ruihan City, Master Sui Xiao, on your esteemed arrival!"
But as Du Youqian swaggered inside with Little Wukong, a conspicuous scene occurred.
Several spells targeting the Demon Race automatically coalesced under the array’s power, poised to strike!
Of course, spells of this level were basically useless against a Tier Four Demon King.
Still, it was quite awkward.
The leader of the welcoming party, who seemed to be a member of the Chen Royal Family and one of the leaders of the Sacrificial Team, glanced deeply at the curious-looking Little Wukong and said with a faint smile, "The array has fallen into disrepair over the years and is having some issues. Please don’t take offense, Master. This junior will have someone adjust it right away."
He turned his head and gave a few instructions. Du Youqian’s Divine Sense already enveloped him, and upon hearing that he only ordered someone to temporarily disable some of the array’s functions, he stopped eavesdropping.
A slight smile touched Du Youqian’s lips. ’Since these people are so tactful, my goal shouldn’t be too difficult to achieve.’
Soon, the coalesced spells dissipated. Du Youqian, with Little Wukong in tow, followed these Tributors to the Royal Palace to attend a banquet.
Previously, Chen Hongbo had deposed the contemporary King Chen and continued to rule as Sovereign himself.
But after so many years, that deposed King Chen was long dead, and his descendants had no right of succession—the law did not permit it.
With Chen Hongbo’s fall, the Royal Family and the Sacrificial Team had held meeting after meeting, but after much discussion, they still hadn’t chosen a new Sovereign and were locked in a stalemate.
Therefore, the one hosting the banquet for Du Youqian was the member of the Chen Royal Family from before, named Chen Keming.
He was both a member of the Royal Family and a Xuan Level Tributor in the Sacrificial Team, giving him a transcendent status.
Thanks to his deliberate efforts to please, both guest and host were delighted.
After three rounds of drinks, Chen Keming clapped his hands, and beautiful young women came forward to perform a dance.
Du Youqian watched distractedly, while Little Wukong transformed into a Taotie, focusing solely on devouring the Spirit Fruits.
"Master Sui Xiao, for what purpose have you come to our humble kingdom at this time?" Chen Keming asked tentatively.
Du Youqian smiled. "Let’s not beat around the bush. I have come to help the Chen Kingdom overcome its difficulties. As long as I take action, the surrounding Alien Races will not dare to act rashly."
Having said that, he stopped and simply drank his wine.
Chen Keming was also quick on the uptake. He gave a meaningful look, and a beautiful Core Formation Tributor immediately sidled up to Du Youqian. A fragrant scent wafted over as she said in a delicate voice, "Master, you possess Mighty Powers. If you were to act, the Chen Kingdom would be saved. But, if we are to trouble you to intervene, we must show our sincerity. I wonder, what is it that you desire?"
Her eyes were practically drawing threads of silk. If Du Youqian didn’t object, she wouldn’t mind going to a side hall with him right now to get... intimately acquainted, and discuss things later.
Du Youqian smiled but said nothing. After a long moment, he finally said, "Drink. Let’s drink first."
’Making Little Wukong the Sovereign—or, taking a step back, making him the de facto ruler without the official title—is bound to face huge opposition.’
’If I propose it now and get shot down by a crowd on the spot, it’ll be too awkward to back down.’
’It’s better to wait. First, I’ll communicate with the leaders of the Sacrificial Team and have them privately persuade the other Xuan Level (Core Formation Level) Tributors. Only then, by bringing it to the table for discussion, can it pass smoothly.’
’Humans are creatures who value their pride.’
’If I try to force this issue now without giving them any face, it’s easy to turn a good thing into a disaster.’
Seeing that Du Youqian wasn’t talking, Chen Keming seemed to understand. He stopped discussing business and stuck to pleasantries.
When the banquet ended, Chen Keming arranged for a beautiful Kun Cultivator to show Du Youqian to his quarters. A moment later, the Kun Cultivator returned and reported, "Master Sui Xiao has refused my service for the night."
Chen Keming thought for a moment, then went to find him under the cover of night.
