Chapter 347 - 230: New Boat, What to Name It?
Chapter 347: Chapter 230: New Boat, What to Name It?
He could occasionally go out to the deep sea on Guo Xiao’s boat, but with so many people around, it was hard for him to do his thing. He’d just have to wait for his own boat.
However, he had just gotten the new boat, and far too many people were excited to go on a deep-sea trip together. He’d have to wait for a time when he could go out alone.
’The Mediterranean Sea... there’s plenty of good stuff in there!’
He especially wanted to catch a bluefin tuna, but because he’d never encountered one before, he couldn’t even use either of the two types of Sea Product Selection Cards he had.
He originally thought he could use the Sea Product Selection Card (Real), since it had worked for large yellow croakers before.
But the game prompted that he could only use it on fish species he had personally seen before. He’d been able to use it on the large yellow croaker because he’d seen one, but he’d never seen a bluefin tuna in real life!
He could choose yellowfin or longfin tuna, but he wasn’t interested in those.
This new boat was a new beginning for him.
Soon, the three of them arrived at the shipyard.
Yi Chen was minding the shop today. Gu Nan had wanted to bring her along, but since they were going out to the deep sea together tomorrow, she decided to stay home. She wanted to calculate last month’s profits first so she could set sail without any worries.
The balances on her two bank cards hadn’t grown much, totaling just over a million.
The money they earned during the Mid-Autumn Festival and the following month had all gone toward paying off their debt. They’d successfully paid back over a million, but still owed a flat four million.
They’d made a lot during the Mid-Autumn Festival, but the actual profit margin wasn’t as high as one might think.
Meanwhile, the balance on Gu Nan’s own card was steadily increasing, now over one and a half million.
He wasn’t in a hurry to pay off the rest of the debt. When the time came, he could just say it was a year-end bonus and produce the money in one lump sum.
"Whoa, what a cool-looking boat!" Seeing it in person, both An Jun and Ye Jing were captivated by the massive blue-and-white vessel docked at the shipyard.
It was just over twenty meters long, making people on the dock look tiny beside it.
Looking at the boat, Gu Nan suddenly thought of the titans of the ocean, blue whales. They were even bigger than this ship—it was almost unimaginable.
Now that he had a big boat, he would finally have a chance to see those behemoths of the sea.
He signed the papers and received the documents. The familiar sales manager was the one who received him today; the manager mentioned that the owner was away on a business trip.
When the sales manager asked him what he wanted to name the boat, Gu Nan was taken aback for a second. He honestly hadn’t thought about it.
No one had asked him to name his small boat, so the thought had never crossed his mind.
The sales manager explained it was a moniker for the boat. The official registered name was just a combination of local letters and numbers.
If he chose a name now, the workers could get it painted right away. It would be more of a hassle to paint it later after the hull got dirty.
"What do you guys think would be a good name?" A few names flashed through Gu Nan’s mind, but none of them felt right, so he asked his friends.
An Jun raised an eyebrow and grinned mischievously. "How about we call it *The Beauty*?"
The words were barely out of his mouth before he earned himself a kick.
Ye Jing’s mouth twitched. He quickly swallowed the name that had been on the tip of his tongue and pretended to think seriously for a moment before saying, "Ah Nan, why don’t you call your lady and talk it over with her? It’s your boat, after all. It’s not really our place to name it."
Gu Nan thought that made sense, so he gave Yi Chen a call.
"Hey, Chenchen. We can give the new boat a name now, which would make it easier for them to get it painted. We don’t have to, but it’ll be more of a hassle to do it later."
"What do you think we should call it? Any ideas?"
Yi Chen was in the middle of calculating last month’s profits, but her interest was piqued. "Hmm, let me think... How about the *Nanchen*? We could take a part of each of our names."
"..." Gu Nan’s mouth twitched. He could tell right away that his dear fiancée was also terrible at coming up with names.
The name was so plain, and frankly, it sounded a little lazy.
Then again, it wasn’t like he had any better ideas. Names like *The Tuna*, *The Giant Wave*, or *The White Eagle* were all worse than *Nanchen*. At least *Nanchen* represented the two of them.
And so, the name was decided just as unceremoniously as that. It would be the *Nanchen*.
The workers were fast. They painted the name *Nanchen* in large characters on the port bow, then added a smaller version of the name below the cockpit window. And just like that, it was done.
The boat was ready to go. As a bonus, the shipyard had even filled the tank for him, saving him tens of thousands of yuan.
The three of them couldn’t wait to get on board and look around. The deck itself wasn’t anything special, but it was floored with waterproof wooden planks. For some reason, it felt much more comfortable to walk on than his small boat. ’Is this what money feels like?’
After all, this was a luxury fishing yacht that had cost him 7.8 million even after a fifty-percent discount. Its furnishings and equipment were nearly top-of-the-line in the country, with many components being imported.
The boat was huge. It took the three of them a good twenty minutes to tour all three decks.
Gu Nan was getting the internet set up. The moment he got a connection, he saw An Jun and Ye Jing playing rock-paper-scissors like a couple of children.
"Rock, paper, scissors..."
"Rock, paper, scissors..."
"Haha, I win! You’re driving back!" Ye Jing laughed, holding up his winning rock against An Jun’s scissors.
Gu Nan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "Are you guys for real?!"
"Of course! This is a new boat, and the chance to be the first passenger is a big deal. As someone who’s switched careers to fishing, I obviously have to soak up some of this good luck," Ye Jing said with a grin, clearly pleased.
An Jun’s face fell. "Fine. It’s not like I’m a professional fisherman anyway. I won’t fight you for the chance."
"A loss is a loss. Don’t act like you’re letting me have it." Ye Jing rolled his eyes, crossing his arms with a smug look.
Gu Nan shook his head, not bothering to engage with them.
He then made his way to the cockpit to study the control panel.
It was, of course, much larger and more complex than the one on his small boat.
But the basic controls were similar. Gu Nan had operated a twenty-three-meter fishing yacht while getting his license, so handling this boat wouldn’t be a problem.
He started the engine to let it warm up. Seeing this, An Jun had no choice but to disembark and drive back.
After the *Nanchen*’s engine had warmed up for about ten minutes, a blast from its horn echoed across the shipyard, carrying far into the distance.
The fishing yacht slowly started up, backing out of the shipyard’s dock. It then gradually turned and headed toward the pier at Yangjiang Port.
The distance wasn’t too great. The *Nanchen* was fast, and the route by sea was more direct, so it reached the pier well before An Jun did.
He docked at Fisherman’s Wharf again, but not in his old spot. Boats over fifteen meters had their own docking area.
This area was reserved for vessels between fifteen and twenty-four meters; anything larger wouldn’t use this particular pier anyway.
Gu Nan chose to rent a berth here mainly for the convenience of unloading his catch.
The pier where Guo Xiao and the others docked was farther from the seafood market, and the berthing fees were much higher, making it less convenient.
By now, a crowd had gathered on the pier: Gu Nan’s parents and fiancée, some close relatives he’d been seeing recently, Yi Chen’s parents, and her two younger sisters.
As for Yi Chen’s mother, after the last incident where she was put in her place, she hadn’t shown up again—perhaps she’d heard something. She hadn’t even come to the engagement party.
Gu Nan had expected her mother to come crawling back trying to curry favor and had already prepared how to handle her, so her absence was a surprise.
The group came aboard for a tour. Yi Miaomiao immediately started pulling on Gu Nan’s arm. "Brother-in-law, Brother-in-law! Can I go out to sea with you on your boat? I’ve never been out on the ocean in my whole life!"
Fang Yueyue also tugged at his pant leg. "Uncle, can Yueyue go on the boat too? Yueyue has never been on such a big boat in her whole life."
Gu Xin couldn’t help but laugh, poking her daughter on the forehead. "How old are you to be talking about your ’whole life’? Where did you learn to talk like that?"
"Hee hee..." Fang Yueyue just hugged Gu Nan’s leg and giggled, not saying a word.
Gu Nan chuckled and ruffled her hair. She was a seven-year-old girl now, a bit too big for him to just pick up and hold.
"Alright. After I get back from this trip, I’ll take you all out on the boat for a day when you have a day off from school."
The kids had school, so they were only free on weekends. It would be difficult for Gu Nan to arrange a two-day trip.
Still, it would be nice for the whole family to get together and have some fun. He hadn’t had a chance to relax in a while either.
After the tour of the fishing yacht was over, the group headed to the Junhao Hotel.
Getting the new boat was a joyous occasion, so Gu Nan had specially booked two tables to celebrate.
