Chapter 304: Chapter 203: Yi Chen’s Gift, the Smart Diving Watch

After finishing up at three o’clock, Gu Nan and Yi Chen headed back to the shop early. The delivery driver had called, saying he’d be there at four.

In the car, Yi Chen was wondering where they should cook the Emperor Crab that evening. "Ah Nan," she asked, "you mentioned treating An Jun and Ye Jing to an Emperor Crab. Where are we going to cook it tonight? Here at the shop?"

"Let’s just do it at the shop!" Gu Nan said after a moment of thought. ’Treating my bros to a big meal at my parents’ place wouldn’t be right.’

’Even though his parents knew An Jun and the others, having elders around would make things a bit awkward. They wouldn’t be able to joke around freely, so the shop was the best option.’

Naturally, Yi Chen had no objections. She was already thinking about how to prepare the Emperor Crab that evening.

’A crab this big has to be prepared in multiple ways so none of it goes to waste.’

She counted on her fingers, considering how to cook it. "Garlic style, soy-braised, baked with cheese, shell-grilled, typhoon shelter style, and Steamed... Let’s go with those six flavors!"

"Whoa, I didn’t realize there were so many ways to prepare it!" The last time Gu Nan had it, it was just shell-grilled and roasted, but even that was incredibly delicious. Eating his fill of crab meat had been so satisfying.

Hearing his girlfriend list off all the different cooking methods made his mouth water.

’He was finding that as his daily income increased, so did his appetite.’

’Maybe it was because he caught them all himself, so he didn’t feel bad about the cost.’

’If he had to buy it, he probably wouldn’t be willing, even if his official monthly net profit was already over fifty thousand.’

’He’d never even thought about buying, say, a steak or some top-shelf ham that cost thousands or even tens of thousands—not unless his debts were all paid off.’

"Of course! You know who you’re dealing with!"

Yi Chen lifted her chin proudly. Her recent "nourishment" had left her radiant; her pure, cute look was now tinged with a hint of seductive charm. Gu Nan nearly lost control just looking at her, almost wanting to find a deserted spot to test the quality of his pickup’s suspension.

But then he remembered the seafood would be delivered to the new shop soon, so he forced himself to rein it in.

’Can’t blame a guy for not being calm. He’d been starving for years; he was just too hungry for meat.’

The two of them first went to buy all the necessary seasonings, as well as a clay pot, a charcoal stove, and some smokeless charcoal.

They didn’t need a steamer, though; the shop already had a huge one.

Back at the new shop, they had only been waiting a short while when the truck pulled up to the entrance.

One Meter Level grouper after another, along with lobsters and millstone-sized Emperor Crabs, quickly refilled the tanks. The sight was deeply satisfying.

Gu Nan casually picked out an Emperor Crab, took it to the entrance, and began to butcher it.

The Emperor Crab’s shell was too tough. With her limited strength, Yi Chen would be drenched in sweat from exhaustion if she tried to handle one this size.

’And he didn’t know if they’d be going back to his rental later tonight, so he had to make sure she saved some of her energy.’

Yi Chen, meanwhile, stood to the side giving directions. After all, she was the one calling the shots on how each part would be cooked.

The owner of the seafood shop next door, a man who looked to be in his forties, saw Gu Nan take a long knife and plunge it straight into the Emperor Crab’s mouth. "Boss Gu," he asked, astonished, "what are you...?"

Gu Nan paused. ’What a question,’ he thought. ’Isn’t it perfectly obvious what I’m doing?’

"What’s wrong?"

After dispatching the Emperor Crab, he flipped it over. Grabbing a filleting knife large enough to break down a tuna, he chopped off the crab’s tail flap with a quick CHOP, CHOP.

Some of the rich tomalley inside immediately spilled out, and Yi Chen quickly rushed over with a large stainless-steel basin to catch it.

There was no telling how much tomalley was inside an Emperor Crab this size; anything smaller than a large basin probably wouldn’t be able to hold it all.

"You’re eating this yourself?" The neighboring owner’s eyebrows twitched as he watched. He hadn’t seen any customers in the shop, so he asked again, uncertainly.

"Yeah. A couple of friends are coming over later. They were craving Emperor Crab, so I figured we’d get a big one and eat our fill," Gu Nan said with a nod.

The neighbor sucked in a sharp breath. ’Damn, this guy’s generous.’ Treating friends to something that cost over twenty thousand without a second thought.

Butchering such a massive Emperor Crab right there on the spot was quite the spectacle.

In just a short while, a few idle shop owners from the neighborhood had gathered around to watch Gu Nan process the crab. Several people even took out their phones to record videos.

He looked up and frowned slightly, but kept a smile on his face as he joked, "Feel free to film, but please don’t film me! I’m so handsome, I’m afraid your cameras won’t do me justice."

It was a tactful way to ask them not to film his face without offending anyone.

And just as he’d hoped, the people filming chuckled and bantered back at him, but they all consciously lowered their phones, focusing only on the Emperor Crab.

Seeing this, Gu Nan focused on portioning out the Emperor Crab according to Yi Chen’s instructions. He chopped half of the body into pieces, which would be used for the soy-braised and garlic-style preparations.

Of the eight legs, he also chopped four into smaller pieces for the typhoon shelter style.

The other four legs were cut into three sections at the joints. He shaved off the shell from one side, readying them to be topped with cheese and baked later.

The remaining half of the body was set aside to have its meat picked for the shell-grill later. Finally, the large claws—also cut into three sections—were designated to be Steamed.

As for the large claws, they were best Steamed and served with a dipping sauce. A single bite was pure meat, and Steamed crab meat is exceptionally fresh and sweet—truly the best way to enjoy it.

This kind of extravagant behavior was only possible because Zhang Suying wasn’t around. Otherwise, she would have privately chewed Gu Nan out.

As for the neighboring shop owners, they didn’t actually see him as a spendthrift.

Mainly, it was because his shop was full of similarly sized crabs, and he had already sold so many that morning. At most, they just marveled at Gu Nan’s extravagance, figuring he didn’t feel the pinch because he had a special source for them.

Some even tentatively asked where he sourced such large stock. Among the onlookers were three other shop owners who also sold Emperor Crabs.
