I Became the Best Forensic Doctor After My Betrayal

Chapter 29

Sickness

When Shang Sheng returned to the private room, he could smell the strong scent of perfume.

When the boys were out on the town, they would always hire some escorts. Only Lian Jing had always rejected women, even after so many years.

No woman was allowed anywhere near his seat, whether she was an escort or could be hired for the night. Lian Jing had never been fond of such things.

Shang Sheng originally thought that he was really noble and upright, but when he saw that child, he suddenly felt a little uncertain.

It was impossible for two people in this world to look so similar unless they were related by blood!

He just knew it. Which man was completely vegetarian?

The more Shang Sheng thought about it, the more he felt that Lian Jing had been disloyal. He said rather plaintively. “Ah Jing, so you have a son behind our backs.”

“Pfft.” Sui Ran, who was drinking wine, was so frightened he accidentally sprayed wine on the legs of the woman beside him.

Lian Jing looked up at him coldly and tried to rein in his temper, but could not help but kick him.

Shang Sheng dodged in time with a squawk. He would not let it go. “Brother, just a word from me is enough to send you into a panic. When did you have a son with someone? I saw everything. He’s the spitting image of you. Don’t tell me that he’s not related to you!”

Sui Ran felt a little nervous when he heard his words. He quickly put down his wine glass and asked tentatively, “Ah Jing, is it true?”

Shang Sheng was afraid that he would be kicked again, so he chose the spot furthest away from Lian Jing and sat down. Immediately, a sensible young lady came over to pour him a glass of wine. “Ah Jing, you’re not married yet. This child is not an illegitimate child. Perhaps if you bring him to meet your grandfather, he will be so happy that he’ll recover instantly!”

“I don’t have a son.” Lian Jing drank silently. For some reason, he suddenly thought of Shen Yin.

The woman’s son was six years old. He wondered if the child was as stubborn as her.

When Shen Yin returned home, she saw Shen Nian sitting alone at the dining table, eating. She asked casually, “Your godmother isn’t back yet?”

“No, I called my godmother. She told us to sleep first and not wait for her.” Shen Nian secretly hid his shoes, which he did not have time to take off. He watched Shen Yin go to the bathroom before quietly walking to the entryway to put his shoes away.

The next day, when Shen Yin arrived at the police station, her head began to ache. Perhaps it was because she had caught a cold last night, but that morning, she looked listless.

Han Xu was the undercover agent that Meng Heng had planted in the forensic office. He heard from Han Xu that Shen Yin was not feeling well, so he asked Wu Zheng for leave, and went to the pharmacy to buy some flu medicine.

“Thank you, but I don’t really like medicine.” Shen Yin pushed away the medicine he handed her and rested her forehead weakly on her hand. “Perhaps I’ll be fine tomorrow.”

“I bought the non-bitter capsules.” Meng Heng seemed to know that she would refuse, so he picked up a thermometer from the bag and handed it to her. “Sister, take your temperature first. If you have a fever, there’s a fever patch here. Even if Sister doesn’t like to take medicine, you can still use the fever patch, right?”

“You’re quite thoughtful.” Shen Yin had no reason to reject his kindness. Looking at his red eyes, she was afraid that the child would cry if she rejected him again. So she had no choice but to accept the things.

“Sister, you should rest. I’ll bring you some light dishes for lunch.” Meng Heng had planned to leave, but he was still a little worried. Without a second thought, he lowered his head and personally pressed his forehead against hers to test the temperature.

Her bright eyes fringed with long eyelashes suddenly widened. Only then did Meng Heng realize what he had done. He hurriedly retreated, his cheeks burning as if Shen Yin’s warmth had been transmitted to him through the short contact just now.

“Fortunately you’re not feverish. I… I have to go.” Meng Heng’s heart was about to explode. He ran out of the forensic office, panting heavily to catch his breath.

At noon, Meng Heng rushed over with a few boxes of porridge and side dishes. This time, he did not say anything. He obediently set the lunch down and left after giving a few instructions.

Shen Yin heaved a sigh of relief but could not help feeling amused. She was clearly much older than Meng Heng. Why did he think of her as a child who could not take care of herself but needed someone to take care of her every need?

Shen Yin did not realize that she really could not take care of herself. Shen Nian had always taken care of her.
