Chapter 1071: Hua Ci and Some Other Woman
Hua Ci had left the Cloud River Battlefield.
This meant that Five Poisons Pond was of no more help to her cultivation. That place probably no longer lived up to its name, just like Myriad Poison Forest on the Spirit Creek Battlefield.
“Well, it’s dangerous out there, so I’ve never had a chance to come across any seductive woman.” Lu Ye glanced at her with a smile.
They had never met again ever since they returned from the Peerless Continent. It had been three years since then.
To a young person like Lu Ye, he felt they had been separated for a long time, but that was how cultivators lived. They couldn’t stay together all the time like the commoners as they had their matters to attend to. Although they hadn’t met for a long time, their bond was still as strong as ever. A long time of separation and missing each other had only strengthened their relationship.
“Also, why would I run away with some other woman when I already have a beautiful one waiting for my return?”
Hua Ci was surprised. “Don’t men love women who throw themselves at them?”
Lu Ye replied seriously, “To each their own. I don’t care how other men behave, but I won’t betray a certain woman.”
Hua Ci placed a palm above her brows and looked around. “Where’s that woman? Why don’t I see her?”
“She’s in my eyes.”
Hua Ci suddenly blushed and clicked her tongue. “You know how to tease, don’t you?”
Xiao Xinghe and Li Baxian looked on with disdain as the two of them flirted in public. On the other hand, Feng Yuechan and Lin Yinxiu watched their banter with interest.
Yi Yi stuck out her head from behind Hua Ci and winked at Lu Ye, who guffawed and beckoned to her. “Look, that’s the woman I’m talking about.”
An elated Yi Yi squealed and crashed into Lu Ye’s arms, hugging him tightly. Then, she pinched his waist. “You must not leave Amber and me behind again!”
Although Lu Ye was in pain, he didn’t let it show on his face. He nodded and said, “Sure, sure.”
Only then did Yi Yi release him with satisfaction.
A moment later, all of them were seated. Hua Ci prepared tea for them, after which Xiao Xinghe lifted his cup. “Come on. Let’s celebrate Little Junior Brother’s safe return and ascension to the Divine Ocean Realm. Also, let’s hope we’ll catch up with him soon. Cheers.”
Lu Ye asked curiously, “Why are we drinking tea? Is there no wine?”
Li Baxian smacked his lips. “Presently, we can’t even guarantee the harvest of grains, so how do we even make wine? Don’t even mention that word, Little Junior Brother. I’ve never tasted wine for half a year. I miss it so much.”
Lu Ye laughed and fished out several jars of wine from his Storage Sphere.
Li Baxian’s eyes brightened at once.
After opening the lids, Lu Ye filled their cups with wine. Even Amber was given a bowl of wine. Xiao Xinghe lifted his cup and proposed a toast. The atmosphere was lively.
Although they didn’t have any food to go with the wine, they were thrilled. Li Baxian gulped down three bowls of wine before letting out a breath which stank of alcohol.
Since they had been separated for a long time, they naturally had a lot to say. They talked just about anything without any restraints.
A while later, Xiao Xinghe asked, “Where were you trapped in the past two years, Little Junior Brother?”
The topic instantly piqued everyone’s interest, so they turned to look at him.
After giving it some thought, Lu Ye replied, “I can’t say exactly where it is for now, but I guarantee that if there’s a chance in the future, I’ll take all of you there to have a look.”
He needed some helpers when he returned to Blood Refinement Boundary, and he would take the members of Team D9 with him.
He could lie to others that he had been trapped in a Small Hidden Realm, but he wouldn’t want to do that to these people who were the closest to him. Since he couldn’t tell them about Blood Refinement Boundary, he could only give them this promise.
They stopped probing further. Since Lu Ye had said so, they would find out about it one day. There was no rush. Xiao Xinghe asked that question because he cared about him.
Lu Ye then asked them what had happened when he wasn’t around. Xiao Xinghe and Li Baxian took turns replying to him.
They spent the entire night drinking wine. By the next morning, they had finished drinking all of Lu Ye’s wine.
Amber lay on its back, snoring loudly.
The women’s faces were red. Hua Ci’s neck even radiated a pinky glow under the morning rays.
When the sky was fully bright, a howl was suddenly heard from somewhere in the city. Following that, many cultivators shot into the sky.
Xiao Xinghe immediately rose to his feet and arched his brows. “The insectoids have come to attack!”
Cultivators were out there killing insectoids all the time, so a large-scale insectoid attack rarely happened these days. Still, they would come across an insectoid attack occasionally.
When powerful insectoids in the Divine Ocean Realm emerged from the chasms, they would lead a lot of insectoids to attack places where Humans gathered.
Those from Red River City had experienced several small-scale insectoid attacks. They had worked together and solved the crises.
This time was no different.
“Let’s stop drinking here, Little Junior Brother. We’ll meet again when the situation gets better.”
“Sure,” Lu Ye replied.
They rose from their chairs and gulped down the last bit of wine in their cups.
“Let’s go!” Xiao Xinghe ordered and flew into the sky, followed by the others. Even Hua Ci, a Medical Cultivator, tagged along. While in mid-air, she waved her hand, after which a huge, ferocious-looking golden toad emerged from a contorted space. She stood atop the toad and smiled at Lu Ye. “Don’t die.”
Lu Ye was studying the golden toad, wondering where she had found the animal. It seemed that she had probably gotten the toad from Five Poisons Pond.
Upon hearing her words, he quickly nodded.
Their reunion only lasted a short time, but they still had a lot to talk about. Although Lu Ye was unwilling to part ways with them, he knew it was time to leave.
His friends had their paths to walk, and he had his things to do.
They were like the water in a river. When they set off from the source, they were tightly held together. But as they flowed on, they would split into many branches. However, as long as the water kept flowing, they would eventually come together again in the ocean.
Since the insectoids had come to attack, the only Divine Ocean Realm Master in charge of the city, Shi Yuan, quickly mobilised his subordinates. Judging from the situation, he reckoned it was a small-scale insectoid attack. Those from Red River City could fend them off. What he found thorny was that there were more than ten insectoids in the Divine Ocean Realm.
As insectoids had low sentience, a Human could easily fight several of them even though both parties were in the same Realm. However, when there were too many insectoids in the same Realm, it would be hard for Humans to deal with them.
It was true that insectoids had low sentience, but they were adept at using all sorts of strange powers. Their thick shells gave them robust protection.
In the past two years following the spread of the insectoid plague in Jiu Zhou, many Divine Ocean Realm Masters lost their lives for various reasons. Shi Yuan wouldn’t want to walk down the same path.
He was hesitating if he should ask for help when he saw a ray of light ascending from somewhere in the city. The ray of light suddenly turned around in mid-air and fearlessly charged towards the insectoids.
Shi Yuan was shocked but soon realised that the person was Lu Ye, who had arrived in Red River City the day before.
He couldn’t help but think that Lu Ye was indeed young and brave, but the latter was slightly reckless.
Before he could tell him to stop, the ray of light had crashed into the insectoids. The following scene astounded him.
As Saber Lights flickered, Lu Ye easily slaughtered these insectoids, leaving behind a vacuum area as he charged forward. The insectoids, be they in the Cloud River Realm or Real Lake Realm, were powerless to fight him.
In the blink of an eye, he reached the centre of the insectoid attack where insectoids in the Divine Ocean Realm gathered.
The Saber Lights were as ferocious as ever. Given Shi Yuan’s eyesight, he couldn’t even see Lu Ye’s movements with clarity. He could only see that those insectoids in the Divine Ocean Realm were dismembered. Their blood fell to the ground, and their severed limbs were sent flying away.
As Lu Ye flew around, the insectoids were separated. All of those insectoids in the Divine Ocean Realm had lost their lives.
The ray of light then flew away as a voice was heard saying from a distance, “Farewell, Senior Sisters and Senior Brothers. We’ll surely meet again!”
Shi Yuan stared at his figure in shock. A long time later, he finally let out a breath. “He indeed lives up to his name.”
Lu Ye of the Crimson Blood Sect had caused a few commotions several years ago. However, that only happened when he was in the Spirit Creek Realm and Cloud River Realm. Other than the Divine Ocean Realm Masters who kept tabs on what was happening to him, most Divine Ocean Realm Masters couldn’t care less.
Someone who could stir up a storm in the Spirit Creek Realm and Cloud River Realm might not achieve much in the Real Lake Realm, let alone the Divine Ocean Realm.
A cultivator’s journey was full of accidents. Someone like Lu Ye, who became famous early on, might not go far on his cultivation journey.
In fact, Lu Ye hadn’t done anything major in the past few years. Those who were scornful of him saw that as the end of his potential.
But now, Shi Yuan realised that some people were bound to shine. Even if they became still for a while, they would shine even brighter one day.
Shi Yuan was a Fourth-Order Divine Ocean Realm Master, so he was two Minor Realms above Lu Ye. Despite that, he didn’t have the guts to crash into the insectoids on his own just like what Lu Ye had done. If he did that, he would be doomed.
It seemed that the rise of Lu Ye from the Crimson Blood Sect was unstoppable.
After pulling himself together, Shi Yuan ordered, “Dispel the Grand Ward and kill the enemies!”
Initially, he intended to rely on the Grand Defensive Ward of Red River City to fend off the enemies. By doing so, he could ensure their safety and minimise their losses. Nevertheless, after the cultivators in the city saw how Lu Ye bravely destroyed the enemies, they became high-spirited and agitated. Their morale would be crushed if Shi Yuan stuck to his plan.
As such, he decided to let them leave the city and slaughter the insectoids. They didn’t have to be afraid of an insectoid attack which was without insectoids in the Divine Ocean Realm.
Following his order, the Grand Defensive Ward was turned off. These cultivators streamed towards the insectoids which didn’t have any formations to speak of. A small-scale battle soon broke out.
Meanwhile, Lu Ye was already hundreds of kilometres away. He didn’t kill all of those insectoids not because he didn’t want to. There just wasn’t a need to do so.
To cultivators of Jiu Zhou now, they could earn battle points by killing insectoids. If he killed too many insectoids, others would share fewer benefits.
However, since he came across an insectoid attack, he wouldn’t sit back and do nothing.
Killing those insectoids in the Divine Ocean Realm would be the best way to deal with the insectoid attack. The cultivators from Red River City could destroy the rest of the insectoids.
