Chapter 796: Chapter 815: Impoverished Region
The Mecha landed.
The curious students looked out the windows and were stunned. Only the few who came from remote planets were somewhat prepared, but even they couldn’t help but think the same thing.
’No way... This can’t be happening.’
’How can this place look so awful?’
-
Once the Mecha came to a complete stop, the hatch opened.
As the group leader, Dean Zhu was the first to walk out. The students filed into a line in the central aisle, disembarking in an orderly fashion based on their seating.
A few teachers were interspersed in the middle of the line, and Qiuqiu joined the queue with the teacher who had accompanied her.
The moment they stepped out of the Mecha, everyone found the light somewhat blinding, as it was incredibly bright outside.
Jiang Qiuqiu couldn’t help but lower her head. She noticed that Q3 Planet seemed a little brighter than a typical planet.
After a moment, however, her eyes adjusted, and she began to observe her surroundings.
The Mecha had landed on a mechanical platform, but a short walk away, the ground was paved with some sort of black, non-metallic material. It was mottled with various colors, making it look rather cheap.
Farther on, once they passed through the gate of the landing zone, another form of ’backwardness’ hit them full in the face.
The reason was simple: the few hovercars waiting outside the gate were utterly dilapidated.
The hovercars, which should have had a metallic sheen, had yellowed with age. Parts of the glass windows had apparently cracked at some point and been patched up with some strange material.
And the wheels, the thrusters—
—they didn’t even match the model of the main chassis. It was obvious that this was a very, very old hovercar.
The Dean and the teachers, however, had clearly been prepared for this and appeared quite calm.
Time ticked by. About forty minutes later, Dean Zhu and the teachers had finished assigning everyone to their vehicles. After a final headcount, they officially departed.
The young students were still a bit bewildered.
"...Do you hear that? What’s that creaking sound?" a young woman’s voice asked, laced with panic. "This hovercar isn’t going to crash, is it?"
"..."
"I-It probably won’t, right?"
"Is this outer panel about to fall off?"
They all looked toward the window. A fierce wind whistled in, and rattling along with it was a piece of the hovercar’s outer plating.
Amid the murmur of conversation, a city finally came into view.
Unlike the towering, cloud-piercing steel cities of Federation Star, the buildings here were shorter and smaller. Even the tallest ones were of only average height. The colors of the city seemed more varied than those of the landing field in the outskirts.
But they were still all dull, drab colors.
’But why are there so many people?’
As they drew closer, countless little black specks appeared through the windows. A massive, jostling crowd was packed next to a building. Qiuqiu wondered, ’What’s the special occasion? Is it market day?’
Her question was answered soon enough.
Because as the hovercar carrying the Spirit Healing Department students descended to a low altitude, a deafening roar came through the vehicle’s crevices—
The sound was chaotic yet uniform. Listening closely, they could make out the words: "Welcome, great Spirit Healing Masters, to Q3 Planet!"
"Great," "Spirit Healing Masters," "welcome"—this trifecta of flattery made the students in the hovercar blush with embarrassment.
Whispers broke out in the air again.
’Why are they yelling like that...’
’So weird.’
’This is kind of awkward.’
Qiuqiu also found it all a bit strange.
And the cheering continued for a long, long time, from the moment they descended to low altitude until they landed inside a fenced-off hospital.
