Chapter 668: Chapter 687: Video from the Front Line
All was quiet in the dorm.
The Star Network, however, was abuzz with activity.
Jiang Qiuqiu logged onto the Star Network. A tag on the trending page, marked as "Explosive," left her a little stunned.
’A great victory in the battle on Polar Star? Why are they already posting combat footage?’
#The Imperial Blade, Still Pressing Forward, As Formidable As Ever#
#Who Guards Our Peace? The Countless Imperial Soldiers Who Stand Watch!#
Jiang Qiuqiu clicked on the first tag.
As expected, it was a report about the Base Star. As usual, the war correspondent started with some background: "We are now at the very edge of the Star System, on the Polar Planet, the battlefield against the Insect Race."
"Behind me now, the fleets of warships and mecha are the sharpest spear and the sturdiest shield guarding our Imperial Star System. Admiral Mo Si has been stationed here with his troops for nearly a week. There have been constant battles, large and small, but we currently hold the upper hand—"
The view cut, and the mecha that belonged exclusively to Mo Si burst onto the scene.
It was big, very big. Its brilliant silver sheen stood out against the violet-blue sea of stars. Mo Si was fond of using weapons in battle, and the broadsword in his hand was a lethal instrument for slaughtering the Insect Race.
With a mere lift of his hand and a slash of his sword, black blood splattered everywhere. A kind of brutal aesthetic unfolded before the viewers’ eyes.
Particularly graphic or nauseating scenes were censored by the main news outlet with a bit of pixelation.
The transmitted combat footage wasn’t long. After editing, it was only about a minute. Within that minute, Mo Si cut down at least thirty members of the Insect Race. It was a real-life demonstration of taking out one enemy with every strike.
After the battle, there was an interview. Mo Si was dressed in the dark olive-green of the base’s military uniform, a plain and simple color. After days of continuous fighting, he looked pale.
His prominent brow and slightly sunken eyes added a menacing edge to his already cold and austere features.
"Admiral Mo, what are your thoughts on this year’s insect tide?"
"Are there any differences this year compared to previous years?"
"Have you projected when the Insect Race might enter their dormancy period this year?"
The reporter’s questions were all fairly standard, each one clearly intended to put the viewers at ease.
Mo Si was not a man who deigned to lie, but standing before the camera, his hands were tied in many ways. His face was stern and his gaze resolute. "There will be an insect tide," he stated. "We will make our stand here. We will never let the Insect Race breach a single one of the Empire’s defensive lines."
"We have not yet observed any differences between this year and previous ones. It is too early to predict their dormancy period, but the timing has been consistent in recent years, and we expect that to hold true this year as well."
...
What followed was a wave of flattery and praise.
To top it off, they even tacked on a recruitment notice at the end.
’Unbelievable. They’re actually recruiting.’
Curious, Jiang Qiuqiu clicked on the video.
"Did seeing the Admiral inspire you? Pique your curiosity?"
"Do you want to become a hero? Do you want to protect those you hold dear?"
"If you are still young, train hard. When you come of age, join the military and help us defend our shared home."
"If you’re past your school years and already in the workforce, then work hard now. Create value for the Empire. Every credit you pay in taxes will become a mecha for the Polar Army on the frontier."
"If you are in your twilight years, do not lose heart. Nurture the next generation, for the youth are the future of the Empire—"
’This recruitment ad was surprisingly rousing.’
After watching the entire video, Jiang Qiuqiu went back and replayed the parts with Mo Si in them several times.
