Chapter 61: Chapter 60: Found, Her Name Is Shi Changying?!
Drowning again had brought on another nightmare. She dreamt of her past life—dreamt of nearly dying, but also of that peerlessly valiant figure descending from the heavens once more to save her.
"It was a young girl, looking not even twenty years old. The young are truly formidable," her manager, Sister Xu, couldn’t help but sigh in admiration. "I asked her to leave her contact information, but she actually said there was no need. But A Yuan, since she’s from the production crew, how could she not know who you are?"
"A young girl?" Qingyuan’s heart pounded violently. Even she couldn’t explain why as she spoke in a hoarse voice. "Quick, find her. She might not seek a reward, but could I really leave this life-saving grace unrequited?"
"That’s exactly what I thought. I was too worried about your safety earlier, but I’ll have someone look into it right away." Sister Xu’s voice suddenly deepened. "Also, your wire was tampered with. We’re still investigating the details."
Qingyuan’s expression cooled, and she gave a self-deprecating smile. "I figured. There are quite a few people in this industry who hate me."
Sister Xu’s heart tightened as she held her hand. "A Yuan..."
The ancient martial arts drama *Dragon Flying Phoenix* was actually not an S-Class production, and its crew couldn’t be considered top-tier either. However, the script was excellent, so Lu Qingyuan had turned down another massive franchise for it. This move had thoroughly baffled everyone in the industry, but Sister Xu knew that Lu Qingyuan never cared whether a show was a massive production when accepting roles; she only cared if the script resonated with her. Lu Qingyuan had her own ideas, but in doing so, she had directly offended several production companies. She was popular, sure, but there were always investors looking to make her take a hard fall.
"Sister Xu, I’m fine." Qingyuan shook her head slightly and blinked with a smile. "That’s why I need to stand even higher. I want to make it so they can’t even touch the hem of my clothes."
"You’re so young, yet you’ve grasped so many profound truths." Sister Xu chuckled. "I was worried you’d be upset, but it seems I was worrying for nothing. This mindset is great."
Qingyuan tilted her head and said softly, "She taught me this, too. She said that no one can be relied upon for a lifetime; the only person you can truly depend on is yourself. So, I have to become even stronger."
Sister Xu paused, suddenly curious about the background of Lu Qingyuan’s savior. But given Lu Qingyuan’s weak physical state, she didn’t want to poke at her sore spots. Thus, she said, "A Yuan, get some sleep first. The doctor said you caught a cold, and the production has temporarily suspended filming. We’ll talk about shooting once your body recovers."
Sister Xu stepped out and closed the door, immediately instructing her assistant to find out exactly who had saved Lu Qingyuan today.
It wasn’t until eleven o’clock at night that Xie Qingshi finally emerged from his studio.
Seeing him, his assistant immediately went up to greet him. "Sir, please eat something first. You’ve locked yourself in for days."
"It’s rare for me to get inspired," Xie Qingshi hummed in acknowledgment and smiled. "I have to record it as quickly as possible; otherwise, the inspiration will fly away, and I’ll be the one crying later."
"By the way, you were trending online. You wouldn’t know since you were in seclusion, but the heat of this entertainment news has already been overshadowed by Lu Qingyuan." The assistant couldn’t help but complain, "Those entertainment reporters really have been following you around, and they even took such misleading photos." He handed over a screenshot of the news.
After reading it, Xie Qingshi’s usually gentle and laid-back expression suddenly froze. "That young girl is still a high school student. The media these days will abandon all bottom lines just for sensationalism and traffic."
The assistant, rarely seeing him angry, was startled. "Sir, rest assured, absolutely no one believes it. Everyone is condemning the marketing accounts for spouting nonsense."
"I forgot to ask her for her contact information." Xie Qingshi sighed. "How can one meal possibly repay a life-saving grace?"
"Mr. Xie, since she came to Thirteen Street, she probably lives nearby," the assistant smiled. "Young girls all love to eat. You will be staying in Jianghuai for one or two months, so you’re bound to run into her again."
Xie Qingshi didn’t mention that his inspiration over the past few days had only sparked after meeting that young girl. Agreeing with his assistant’s reasoning, he bundled himself up in full disguise and headed out again in the middle of the night.
However, to Xie Qingshi’s disappointment, despite waiting from midnight until past three in the morning, he didn’t encounter that strange young girl again. The night market was just as bustling, but he felt as though something was missing, leaving a hollow emptiness in his heart. Xie Qingshi gazed at the Ming Yue in the sky, and his state of mind gradually found peace once more. If it was meant to be, they would eventually meet again.
Because saving someone during the day had drained so much of her energy, Shi Changying slept straight through until dawn, naturally skipping her usual routine of sneaking over the wall to find a midnight snack.
Swimming would normally have been a trivial matter for her. Back when she marched and fought in wars, she had gone days and nights without closing her eyes. Unfortunately, her current body was still too weak. After getting up, Shi Changying changed into her school uniform and went to the dining room for breakfast.
Xu Shuangqiao had stayed over at the old residence last night. She reached out to check the temperature of Shi Changying’s forehead and let out a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness. I was afraid you’d run a fever in the night. Why don’t you take a day off and rest at home so we can keep an eye on you?"
"No," Shi Changying refused. "Learning is like sailing against the current; if you don’t forge ahead, you fall behind."
Xu Shuangqiao tried again. "It’s just one day. You won’t fall behind."
"Don’t interfere with my speed in securing first place in the grade," Shi Changying stated flatly.
Xu Shuangqiao was left speechless. She could only urge Shi Changying repeatedly to contact her immediately if she felt unwell anywhere.
Shi Changying arrived at school a little late today. By the time she got to class, Shaoyuan was already seated at his desk.
"Morning, Senior Sister." This time, it was Song Qingmu’s turn to greet her.
Shi Changying set her schoolbag on her desk. Just as she was about to use one of the high-emotional-intelligence phrases she had recently learned, a bag of exquisite pastries appeared in front of her, instantly making her forget whatever she was going to say.
"Eat up." Shaoyuan tore open the bag, pulled out a pastry, and popped it into her mouth. He casually pinched her cheek. "You really do need to eat more. You still haven’t put on any weight."
Shi Changying slowly raised her head, her eyes deep and pitch-black. It was like the posture of a cat right before a hunt—very quiet, yet concealing a massive amount of aggression. She was still biting down on the pastry, completely motionless.
Shaoyuan’s brow twitched. He unhurriedly raised his hands in a gesture of surrender. "Don’t bully me, Young Miss."
Shi Changying swallowed the pastry and didn’t speak again. She pondered silently that she had forgotten to study the high-EQ phrase, "Then I shall show great mercy and forgive you." She would make sure to learn it later.
The midday sun was brilliantly bright, casting a faint golden glow as it filtered through the window and landed on the hospital bed. Qingyuan slowly opened her eyes.
Sister Xu was on the phone by the door, sounding somewhat surprised. "She’s the daughter of the Jianghuai Xu Family?"
"That’s right, she’s Director Xiao Xu’s younger sister," the staff member replied. "She’s still a student. When she came to the set, I even saw her doing homework. Sister Xu, I’ll send you Director Xiao Xu’s contact information."
"Alright, thank you for the trouble." After ending the call, Sister Xu received Xu Shuangqiao’s phone number and immediately dialed her second call. "Hello? Is this Miss Shuangqiao? I’m A Yuan’s manager."
"Speaking." Xu Shuangqiao wasn’t entirely surprised that Sister Xu would contact her. "Has Teacher Lu woken up yet?"
"She woke up yesterday. We observed her for another night, and there’s no major issue now, though she’ll probably need to stay in the hospital for a few more days." Sister Xu explained, "A Yuan would like to meet your younger sister to thank her in person, and hopes that Director Xiao Xu can fulfill this wish for her."
"Alright." Xu Shuangqiao pondered for a moment before adding, "My sister’s name is Shi Changying. Make sure you don’t look for the wrong person when you come."
