Chapter 179 - 178: Exposed, Kicking Xu Zhao Yu Out of the Xu Group!
Chapter 179: Chapter 178: Exposed, Kicking Xu Zhao Yu Out of the Xu Group!
He Wenxian could accept being kicked out of Xu Group, and he could even stomach having all his shares seized by Ming Chengli. After all, he had poured his blood, sweat, and tears into the company for over a decade. The money he had saved was more than enough for him to live out the rest of his days in luxury abroad.
But spending the latter half of his life in prison? That was absolutely unacceptable!
Although Xu Zhao Yu hadn’t directly tampered with the contract, she had orchestrated the entire scheme with him. She had to take responsibility for him!
"President He, how am I supposed to save you?" Xu Zhao Yu asked calmly, though her expression looked deeply troubled. "Forging a signature, corporate embezzlement... these are criminal offenses. Do you think I’m some sort of miracle worker?"
He Wenxian was shocked by her composure. He desperately wanted to see a hint of fear or panic on her face, but there was nothing.
"Xu Zhao Yu, you have to save me!" He Wenxian grew agitated. "If it weren’t for you, why would I ever scheme against Ming Chengli? If he gets kicked out of Xu Group, you’re the one who benefits! On what grounds can you refuse to save me?"
Xu Yunfan’s expression shifted. He lunged forward and grabbed He Wenxian by the collar. "What do you mean by that?"
"What do I mean? I mean exactly what I said!" He Wenxian’s face flushed red as he struggled to breathe, yet he continued to yell frantically. "I’m saying this was all Xu Zhao Yu’s plan! Ming Chengli and I don’t even have any fundamental conflict of interest. Why else would I set a trap to frame him for no reason?"
A cornered man’s words carried a desperate ring of truth.
Xu Yunfan’s heart sank, and his gaze turned a few degrees colder. "Zhao Yu?"
"Chengli is a Xu family member, and I’m just a married daughter. What benefit could I possibly gain?" Xu Zhao Yu sighed and said gently, "President He, even though Mrs. He and I are good friends, you can’t just desperately grasp at straws and lash out like a rabid dog, biting anyone in sight."
He Wenxian’s pupils shrank violently. She was using his family to threaten him! He might be going to prison, but his wife and children were already on a flight abroad.
"Emotionally speaking, Xu Group is my father’s life’s work, and I naturally cannot tolerate anyone harming the company’s interests," Xu Zhao Yu said lightly. "Logically speaking, the fact remains that you broke the law."
He Wenxian’s lips trembled. "Xu Zhao Yu, you..."
"If you insist on dragging me down with you, then be my guest." Xu Zhao Yu extended her hand in an inviting gesture. "I am ready to accept police investigation and questioning at any time. If I am guilty, I will gladly turn myself in."
He Wenxian’s body began to shake, his face turning deathly pale. It was only then that he realized Xu Zhao Yu’s planning was utterly watertight. She had left absolutely no evidence behind. Even the plane tickets she had bought for him were not paid for from her own account. He had been so thoroughly convinced that Ming Chengli was doomed to lose that he hadn’t bothered to keep any leverage against Xu Zhao Yu.
CLICK. A pair of cold handcuffs locked around He Wenxian’s wrists. His eyes were lifeless as he was led into the police car.
Xu Yunfan was still staring at Xu Zhao Yu. "Zhao Yu, is what he said true? Were you involved in this?"
"I’ve only ever met Mrs. He a few times for afternoon tea. I genuinely know absolutely nothing about this matter," Xu Zhao Yu said, feigning shame. "Dad, Yunfan, it’s my fault for being a poor judge of character. I almost caused a massive disaster."
Xu Yunfan nodded, his expression softening, but inexplicably, a knot of doubt formed in his heart. Once it appeared, it refused to fade away.
Old Sir Xu remained silent, his gaze heavy and unfathomable as he pondered. He seemed like a completely hands-off boss who cared about nothing, but in reality, he saw everything with striking clarity.
Power struggles within prominent families always ended in cutthroat, life-or-death battles. But the Xu family was different; such power struggles simply didn’t exist. The eldest, Xu Yunhai, worked for Doctors Without Borders and constantly traveled through various War Zones. The second eldest, Xu Yunfan, was in the military and was even less likely to interfere with company affairs. The third eldest, Xu Yunxiao, was a university professor with no connection to the business world.
Xu Zhao Yu was cunning and scheming, which Old Sir Xu actually considered a good thing. Of all the old foxes who had lingered in the business world for years, which of them wasn’t ruthless enough to chew a person up and spit them out? Without a bit of cunning, one simply couldn’t survive.
Therefore, he didn’t care in the slightest whether Xu Zhao Yu had orchestrated this recent corporate gamble. The only reason he had previously delegated power to her was simply because she was his daughter. Xu Shuyu shared Xu Zhao Yu’s surname and was a Xu family member. Any future descendants would also bear the Xu name. But all of this had been built on the premise that his blood flowed in Xu Zhao Yu’s veins.
His affection for Xu Zhao Yu wouldn’t change, and he would still emotionally favor her—after all, they had lived together for forty years. However, he could no longer afford to give her any more power.
Ending his train of thought, Old Sir Xu finally spoke up slowly. "Zhao Yu, I think your perfume company is doing very well. The revenue reports from the past two years have been excellent."
Xu Zhao Yu smiled. "I still couldn’t have done it without your support, Dad. If I really had to start from scratch, I definitely wouldn’t be as formidable as you."
"The affairs of our family’s company are too numerous and chaotic. With your heart condition, if you were to get so angry that something happened to you, your mother, your brothers, and I would be devastated to see it," Old Sir Xu continued. "From now on, you shouldn’t get involved with the company’s affairs here."
Xu Zhao Yu’s expression finally changed.
"That’s right, Zhao Yu, you saw what happened today," Xu Yunfan said without thinking. "These old fogeys will do anything for profit."
Xu Zhao Yu knew that Xu Yunfan had always been simple-minded; if a conversation was even slightly subtle, it would completely go over his head. He could only hear that Old Sir Xu was caring for her and prioritizing her health, completely missing the fact that the old man’s true objective was to remove her from the company. She also knew that Yunfan’s remark was aimed at He Wenxian and the others, yet she still felt like he was making a veiled accusation against her.
"I also heard from Bai Zhou that the International Perfumery Competition is about to begin," Old Sir Xu added. "You’re expected to enter the international division and win glory for our country, so you must prepare thoroughly."
Xu Yunfan nodded again. "Exactly."
Xu Zhao Yu dug her fingernails into her palms, masking the unwillingness and resentment in her eyes. Her voice was low as she replied, "Dad, I understand. Thank you for your concern. I will definitely prepare well for the perfumery competition."
Old Sir Xu said, "It’s so late for you to come all the way out here. Let Yunfan escort you back to the Meng family’s home."
Xu Zhao Yu’s smile was somewhat strained. "Sorry for the trouble, Yunfan."
After returning to the Meng family’s home, every trace of a smile vanished from Xu Zhao Yu’s face.
Had she not coincidentally visited Xu Group, she wouldn’t have known that the police had already discovered He Wenxian’s forgery of Ming Chengli’s signature, which was why she had rushed over so frantically. But three days were simply not enough time to obtain an official authentication certificate! She wondered how on earth this could have happened.
Xu Zhao Yu thought about it from every angle, unable to sit still. She immediately reached out to relevant contacts, asking which organization could possibly issue a certificate within three days. More importantly, she needed to know exactly what kind of connections Ming Chengli had. Even though she now knew the ins and outs of what happened at that board meeting, she still couldn’t comprehend how Shi Changying had managed to persuade the Medical Science Academy to open a special expedited channel just for them. Until she thoroughly uncovered the backgrounds of that father-daughter pair, she would never find peace of mind.
Soon, her contact replied. "Miss Xu, handwriting authentication reports require a minimum of twenty working days under normal procedures. But if we’re talking about a three-day turnaround, it isn’t impossible... just exceedingly difficult."
Xu Zhao Yu frowned. "What do you mean?"
Her contact slowly enunciated the name: "Mingjing Cultural Heritage Institute."
CLATTER!
