Chapter 166 - 165: Changying Leads the Ministers to Sweep Pei Xuan’s Tomb
Chapter 166: Chapter 165: Changying Leads the Ministers to Sweep Pei Xuan’s Tomb
Xu Shuangqiao immediately backed away.
The waiter, however, was fraught with panic. "Young lady, don’t go over there! Don’t be reck—"
Before he could finish, a heavy impact cut him off.
THUD!
The waiter stared dumbfounded as Shi Changying delivered a swift elbow strike, immediately following it up with a shoulder throw that effortlessly floored the towering young man.
Her movements were simple and brutal, purely close-quarters hand-to-hand combat. Yet, none of these half-drunk young men could match her sheer strength.
In a matter of moments, they were all sprawled across the floor.
Shi Changying clapped her hands to dust them off, then turned to Qian Qiu, who was standing frozen in place. "How is your hand?"
A distinct red ring had formed around Qian Qiu’s pale wrist. She shook her head slowly. "I’m... fine. Thank you."
WEE-WOO! The police cars had arrived outside.
Two officers walked in, only to fall completely silent at the sight inside the bar. Several young men were collapsed on the floor; some were throwing up alcohol, while others were practically rolling their eyes back in pain.
Shi Changying picked up her cup of orange juice again. Without so much as blinking, she drawled, "Officers, these guys were causing a ruckus and scared me so much I spilled my juice. Can I get them to pay for it?"
Xu Shuangqiao was speechless. Had she not seen the fight with her own eyes, she definitely would have been fooled by the innocent act.
This wasn’t the first time this group of men had caused trouble, and they had previously spent several days in administrative detention. After the police hauled them away, the waiter began sweeping up the broken glass in a dazed trance.
Qian Qiu finally snapped out of her shock and offered an apologetic smile. "Thank you so much for today. How should I address you two?"
"I’m Xu Shuangqiao," she introduced herself proudly. "And this is my cousin, Shi Changying. Isn’t she amazing?"
The surname ’Shi’ struck a nerve with Qian Qiu. She paused for a moment before asking, "If you’re paternal cousins, why do you have different last names?"
Shi Changying shoved her hands into her pockets. "My dad thought this surname sounded cooler."
"The imperial surname of the Xuan Dynasty. It is indeed impressive." Qian Qiu smiled warmly. "You can call me Zhiqiu. From now on, any expenses you two have at Half Cup of Clear Dream will be on my tab."
The three of them exchanged contact information.
"Only I am the first?" Qian Qiu softly read the screen name aloud, then changed the contact alias to ’Little Sister Changying’.
After Shi Changying and Xu Shuangqiao left, the waiter was still shaken. "Miss Qiu, that scared me to death! You absolutely cannot get hurt, especially not those hands of yours!"
Qian Qiu let out a soft yawn. "Don’t panic. If something happens to my hands, the insurance company should be the most terrified. It wouldn’t be your problem."
The waiter looked confused. "Why is that?"
Qian Qiu waved her hands gracefully. "Because I’ve insured these hands for two hundred million. If anything happens to them, the company will have to pay a massive fortune."
The waiter was stunned into silence.
Three days later, a new piece of news shook the historical academic community.
Published alongside Xie Qingshi’s musical scores were his personal manuscripts. These pages contained his autobiographical accounts, serving as indisputable historical evidence of his life.
[Real or fake? Xie Qingshi was actually poisoned and blinded by his own mother?]
[Hiss... the infighting within prominent noble families is terrifying. Even a vicious tiger won’t eat its own cubs!]
[Looking at it this way, Taichu doesn’t seem quite so unbearable. At the very least, she did a good deed. She saved Little Xie and promoted him. It completely makes sense why he would write the words ’Return to the Beginning’.]
[I’m doomed. I’m in the middle of writing a Little Xie fanfic, and now I have to go change the lore. I originally set Taichu as the villain, but now I have to change her into his pure savior.]
[Write faster! I can’t sleep! I need to read this in ten minutes!]
[Fanfic authors, hold your horses. Those of us studying history are the ones truly panicking right now!]
[Nothing will ever change the fact that Taichu was a lecherous tyrant!]
Since reading that top-liked comment at noon, Shi Changying maintained a completely stoic expression right up until the end of the school day.
She was lecherous?
She freely admitted that the people she kept by her side were never hard on the eyes, but her primary criterion for employing someone was their capability. Even if someone had four eyes and six legs, as long as they were competent enough, she would employ them.
Long, slender fingers suddenly tapped against her desk. "What are you spacing out for? Snap out of it and look at the question."
Shi Changying turned her head and stared at Shaoyuan for three full seconds. Then, completely out of the blue, she declared, "I am not lecherous at all."
Even though Shaoyuan was already used to her sudden, bizarre tangents, he genuinely couldn’t fathom where this statement had come from. He raised his voice slightly in amusement. "Oh?"
"If you absolutely must put a label on it," Shi Changying continued, "I simply prefer slender waists."
Upon hearing this, Shaoyuan’s eyes narrowed fraction by fraction, a calculating and scrutinizing gleam entering his gaze.
Shi Changying picked up her pen, forcing her attention back to the test paper in front of her. A moment later, however, she felt the need to emphasize it once more. "I am absolutely not lecherous."
"Yeah, I heard you." Shaoyuan let out a cryptic chuckle. "Our Miss simply appreciates a slender waist. Who would dare call you lecherous?"
Only then was Shi Changying satisfied, throwing herself wholeheartedly into her ongoing battle with chemistry.
When the school day finally ended, she returned to the Old Xu Mansion and resumed teaming up with Yan Sinian to fleece money out of Xu Zhao Yu’s pockets.
Yan Sinian had been riding high these past few days. He had won the year-end bonuses of his other senior martial brothers and sisters, racking up quite the small fortune.
But just as he was reveling in his success, a new message ruined his good mood.
[Senior Brother]: I will be going to Zhongwu Tomb this weekend. You come too.
[Yan Sinian]: Huh? I have to go too?
[The Only Person]: Why wouldn’t you go? Do you not want to study ancient culture anymore? There are quite a few steles at Zhongwu Tomb, all of which contain the essence of history!
[Yan Sinian]: Stop spouting nonsense! Since when did I say I didn’t want to study ancient culture? I’ve already been to Zhongwu Tomb once, so why should I go again?
[Second Sister]: Wow, Boss. Looks like someone wants to stage a rebellion after winning a bet. He won’t even listen to you anymore.
Yan Sinian was utterly filled with grief and indignation. He had won the money, so why was his status still at the bottom of the food chain?
Shi Changying glanced sideways at him. "What’s wrong with you now?"
"Senior Brother wants me to go to Zhongwu Tomb with him."
"Zhongwu Tomb?"
"The tomb of Pei Xuan, the Poetry and Sword Dual Master," Yan Sinian sighed, offering a bit more explanation. "His posthumous title is Zhongwu. Tombs are often named after a person’s posthumous title, official position, or peerage. He was the Minister of the Imperial Guard, so Zhongwu Tomb is also called Chief Guard Pei’s Tomb."
"Is that so?" Shi Changying’s eyebrows suddenly shot up. "That posthumous title... actually suits him perfectly."
Yan Sinian clutched his head, in so much agony that he couldn’t even focus on his web drama anymore.
In a rare display of initiative, Shi Changying offered, "I’ll go with you."
Yan Sinian jumped in surprise, hardly daring to believe his ears. "Really?"
"Really," Shi Changying affirmed. "I haven’t been to Zhongwu Tomb yet."
He was her subordinate after all, and he had sacrificed his life for their country. Going to sweep Pei Xuan’s tomb was the least she could do; it was only natural.
Yan Sinian was overjoyed. "That’s fantastic!"
After pondering for a moment, Shi Changying opened the "A Loving Family" group chat.
[Only I am the first]: Do you all have time this weekend?
[Xie Qingshi]: This minister is present.
[Qingyuan]: Sister Ying has spoken. Of course I have time.
[Ning Liuyu]: I’m here!
[Only I am the first]: Excellent. It’s rare for us to get together. Let’s all go sweep Pei Xuan’s tomb together.
