Chapter 134 - 133: This Is the Medicine Made by Medicine Girl Ning Liuyu!
Chapter 134: Chapter 133: This Is the Medicine Made by Medicine Girl Ning Liuyu!
Pei Xuan finally spoke. "No one would mistake you for a mute if you just kept quiet."
Housekeeper Pei covered his mouth, feeling deeply wronged. He wondered what was wrong with him. He only wanted to share the Young Master’s burdens!
"Very well. This is just peachy," Pei Xuan suddenly sneered. "Two people ganging up to go against me."
Housekeeper Pei fell silent. A moment later, unable to hold back any longer, he asked, "Is the Young Master referring to Xie Lin and Lu Qingyuan?"
Pei Xuan neither nodded nor shook his head.
Housekeeper Pei began to earnestly offer his counsel. "Since they’ve upset you, Young Master, why don’t we throw some money around and have them blacklisted from the industry?"
Pei Xuan shot him a cold glance. "Am I that petty?"
Housekeeper Pei remained silent, but he thought his young master was pettier than the eye of a needle.
"Besides, what’s the point of targeting them over something like this? It’s completely useless." Pei Xuan remained noncommittal. "Without her around, targeting them feels like something is missing. It’s just boring."
Housekeeper Pei was thoroughly confused. "Young Master, this ’her’ you mentioned—"
"You drive," Pei Xuan interrupted.
Housekeeper Pei was instantly thrilled. "Yes, I’ll drive!"
It was another happy day of keeping his life intact!
The seniors of Class 17 had enjoyed a pleasant evening. Since it was getting late, everyone planned to part ways and head home.
"Ah!" the vice class president suddenly let out a tragic wail. "Why did the test scores have to come out now? Are they trying to ruin my sleep?"
Song Qingmu was furious. "Damn it, so they’re out! Why did you have to say it out loud?"
The vice class president replied without batting an eye, "Misery loves company, of course. Why should I be the only one losing sleep?"
Everyone was speechless. Abandoning their midnight snacks, they pulled out their phones and logged into the school intranet to check their scores.
Shi Changying casually handed her grilled cold noodles to Shaoyuan to hold for her. After all, Shaoyuan never bothered to check his scores; absolutely no one could ever snatch the throne of first place in the grade from him.
As they checked their results, tragic wails rang out from the crowd every now and then.
"Ah, I’m dead! I only got two points on the classical Chinese section this time. Old Bei is definitely going to whip me."
"How can I ever save you, my physics score!"
"Tragic, truly tragic. I completely went off-topic on the English essay this time."
Shi Changying found her results as well. Although she hadn’t studied any chemistry or biology, she had managed to scrape together a few points using the ultimate method of blind guessing. Her highest score was in Chinese—out of a total of 150 points, she scored 95. She got 48 in math and 56 in English, with quite a few questions guessed correctly. With a total score of less than three hundred, she happily claimed the title of dead last in the grade.
After a moment of silence, Shi Changying asked, "Isn’t our class ranked last in the grade?"
Lu Mi nodded. "Yeah, our average score is dead last every year. Last time, the class average was only 628."
Shi Changying stared at the uniform column of scores starting with a "6" ranked ahead of her. As expected of Jianghuai High School, one of the top three elite schools in Jiuzhou. It turned out she really was the only academic failure here.
"Hey, the students in the other classes are even more freakish," Lu Mi said immediately. "Besides, Yingying, you started from scratch. You’re already amazing!"
Shi Changying didn’t reply. She began to check the detailed breakdown of each subject.
Lu Mi peeked over and gasped in shock. "Oh my god, our Yingying actually got a perfect score on the classical Chinese section!"
This exclamation drew the attention of the other classmates.
"The classical Chinese translation was so hard this time! How did Senior Sister get it right without a single mistake?"
"The punctuation questions were insanely hard too!"
"Impressive," Shaoyuan smiled, not stingy with his praise.
Shi Changying raised an eyebrow. "Just a coincidence. I happen to have read this text before."
Having been the Emperor for several years, she wasn’t entirely ignorant of classical Chinese. Ye Yu used to translate it into colloquial speech for her. As long as she had heard a text, she could remember it, and she had learned quite a bit of knowledge this way. However, whenever certain civil servants started their memorials with dramatic wailing and cries of "May Your Majesty see clearly," it gave her a genuine headache.
She had originally been a military general. When leading troops into battle, orders needed to be as concise as possible to ensure a smooth deployment. After all, many low-ranking soldiers never had the opportunity to go to school. Ye Yu had also noticed her headaches and had thus shielded her from those civil servants who loved to give long-winded speeches.
Shi Changying scrolled the class rankings all the way to the top row and began calculating the score difference between herself and Shaoyuan.
"It’s unbelievable. How did the young master score 735 again?" Song Qingmu scratched his head. "Not only did his ranking not change, but his score didn’t move by a single point, either!"
Shaoyuan didn’t respond to that. Instead, he said, "Open your mouth."
Shi Changying opened her mouth out of habit, and a piece of grilled cold noodle was popped in. With unhurried movements, he fed the rest of the grilled cold noodles to her, bit by bit.
The surroundings were rather quiet.
Yet, the two people at the center of attention didn’t feel anything was amiss. One continued to look at her scores, while the other continued to feed her.
Once he finished, Shaoyuan asked, "Figured it out?"
Shi Changying gave a sound of affirmation. "Still 446 points away."
There were still seven months until the college entrance examination. She needed to keep working hard.
Shaoyuan’s eyebrow twitched slightly. "I’ll be waiting for you."
After eating and drinking her fill, Shi Changying returned to the Old Xu Mansion.
To her surprise, Ming Chengli was actually there.
Seeing her return, he said, "Changying, I brought you some plum blossom cakes."
Shi Changying shook her head. "I just ate. I can’t stomach any more right now."
Ming Chengli was shocked. "What? You can’t eat anymore? Should we go to the hospital to get you checked out!"
Shi Changying couldn’t be bothered to argue. Instead, she said, "The results for this month’s mock exams are out."
Ming Chengli took the phone from her hand. After looking at her scores, he slapped his thigh. "Thirty-four points in physics! Amazing, truly amazing!"
During her previous placement test upon enrollment, his daughter had only scored five points.
"Changying, Dad has always believed in you, and you haven’t let Dad down," Ming Chengli said with gratification. "Dad just hopes that you... COUGH, COUGH, COUGH!"
He suddenly broke into a violent coughing fit. There was an unnatural flush on his face; he was clearly running a fever.
Shi Changying’s expression shifted. "Have you been skipping meals and staying up late?"
Ming Chengli looked a bit guilty. "I... I ate."
"It rained heavily in Jin’an City yesterday, and you didn’t bundle up." Shi Changying raised her hand to feel the temperature of his forehead, saying coldly, "And now you have a fever."
Ming Chengli stayed as quiet as a mouse.
Shi Changying retrieved some medicine and returned. "Open your mouth."
Ming Chengli obediently swallowed the medicine. "Daughter, what did you just give Dad? A lemon drop?"
Shi Changying replied, "I think you look like a lemon drop."
Ming Chengli fell silent. He thought to himself that his daughter was being fierce with him again.
"Why does this medicine taste like sweet and sour lemon? I have to say, it’s surprisingly tasty," Ming Chengli muttered under his breath. "Since the medicine is so sweet, it won’t be ineffective, will it?"
Hearing this, Shi Changying paused in her movements. She took out a pill and placed it in her own mouth.
