Chapter 121 - 120: Meeting, Unbelievable
Chapter 121: Chapter 120: Meeting, Unbelievable
[Ning Yu]: Miss Shi, no rush. I’ll wait for you.
[Ning Yu]: I wonder if the young student who was with you the other day is free? I’m also very grateful to him for helping call the police.
[Only I am the first]: I’ll call him.
Shi Changying checked off the dishes she wanted to eat on the digital menu and sent it over.
Ning Liuyu stared at the screen full of red circles and fell into a deep silence. She wondered if this Miss Shi was the reincarnation of Taotie, the mythical gluttonous beast. There were nearly a hundred dishes on the menu! It wasn’t a matter of money, but eating so much—wouldn’t it really affect her health?
While worrying, Ning Liuyu asked the waiter to prepare the food.
Thinking of the upcoming feast she was about to enjoy, Shi Changying’s mood improved significantly. She had recently learned two new phrases: "turning sorrow into appetite" and "attending to a myriad of affairs is nothing compared to my spicy chicken." The term "foodie" also suited her perfectly; she was the ultimate foodie.
Lu Mi jogged over with her backpack, cheering her on. "Yingying, how did you do on the exams? It doesn’t matter if you didn’t do well this time. You learn so fast, the college entrance exam will definitely be a breeze for you."
Shi Changying said, "I didn’t understand a single question on the two exams today." She hadn’t started studying biology and chemistry yet, so she couldn’t comprehend what kind of elements the twenty-six letters represented.
"I hate chemical equations the most. When I first started learning them, I couldn’t balance them no matter what," Lu Mi said dejectedly. "I just rely on rote memorization."
"Once I finish learning the junior high physics topics, I’ll start studying chemistry and biology," Shi Changying said lazily. Having been reborn, even though her martial arts were entirely lost, fortunately, her photographic memory was still intact. However, she also knew that learning couldn’t rely solely on memory; it required flexibility and adaptability.
"Yingying, I believe in you! You will definitely be able to replace the Young Master!" Lu Mi continued to cheer her on. As she said this, she looked around to confirm Shaoyuan wasn’t around.
After all, Shaoyuan had firmly held the throne of first place in the grade all year round, and the first seat in the first exam room was always his. He was like a jade statue atop a high mountain peak, sitting quietly in this insurmountable place, allowing countless admiring gazes to fall upon him without ever lowering his head for anyone.
At this moment, a sneer rang out. Hearing her words, Meng Shuyan cast a contemptuous glance at Shi Changying and Lu Mi, finding it utterly ridiculous.
Replace Shaoyuan? Even his sister, Xu Shuyu, couldn’t do it. Could Shi Changying, who had just learned how to solve quadratic equations, do it?
Lu Mi crossed her arms aggressively. "What are you looking at? Haven’t you seen someone as excellent as our Yingying?"
Meng Shuyan ignored her, merely staring at Shi Changying with a mocking smile. "Shi Changying, let alone replacing the president, if you can even pass the tier-one university cutoff mark in the college entrance exams, I’ll twist my own head off."
Shi Changying didn’t get angry. She slightly raised her chin. "Alright, remember to bring me your head."
She recorded it.
"Shi Changying, you can’t even learn calligraphy, and your spoken English is so terrible. What else can you do besides using violence?" Meng Shuyan continued his cold mockery. "If I were you, I would have long ago—"
Lu Mi suddenly spoke up. "Young Master!"
Meng Shuyan’s voice came to an abrupt halt. A cold sweat broke out on his back, and his legs began to tremble slightly.
Shaoyuan walked right past him, acting as if he hadn’t noticed his presence at all.
Xu Shuyu was also in the first exam room. After she came out, Meng Shuyan didn’t linger any longer. He stepped forward to walk shoulder-to-shoulder with her toward the school gates.
"Sister, Shi Changying is doomed," Meng Shuyan gloated. "She could still pretend before, but once her monthly exam results come out this time, Grandpa and Grandma will definitely enforce the family discipline on her."
Xu Shuyu kept a cold face. Seeing her stay silent, Meng Shuyan asked cautiously, "Sister, have you still not found the music score?"
"No. I’ve checked all the relevant surveillance footage and asked everyone who might have taken it, but there’s still no trace of the score." Xu Shuyu felt deeply frustrated. "I’ll just have to rewrite a copy for now."
Meng Shuyan comforted her. "Sister, you don’t need to be so stressed. It’s your talent; no one can steal it."
Xu Shuyu gave a faint hum of acknowledgment.
The brother and sister got into the car. The Meng Family driver said gently, "Miss Shuyu, Young Master Shuyan, Mr. Meng said you’ll be eating out today. I’m taking you to the restaurant."
Meng Shuyan asked in surprise, "Weren’t we supposed to eat at Grandpa and Grandma’s house?"
"Old Sir Xu went to host the delegation from the Medical Science Academy," the Meng Family driver explained.
Meng Shuyan nodded and didn’t ask any more questions. The car sped away, leaving a trail of dust.
Meanwhile, Lu Mi gave Shaoyuan a thumbs up. "Young Master, you’ll definitely be first again this time. You’re truly a role model for us all."
Shaoyuan slightly raised an eyebrow. "That didn’t seem to be what you were saying earlier."
Lu Mi’s reflex was to immediately cover her mouth. She slipped away as fast as she could fly, not even daring to turn her head back.
Shi Changying glanced at him. "You’re scaring Xiao Mi again."
"How can you call it scaring? I was merely bluffing her." Shaoyuan looked down; an orange cat was circling his ankles. He naturally took out a cat treat, half-squatted, tore open the packaging, and offered it to the orange cat’s mouth. He obviously fed cats on campus often. The orange cat ate happily, its eyes narrowing into slits.
As Shi Changying watched, she found Shaoyuan’s movements while feeding the cat somewhat familiar. It seemed that every time he gave her snacks, he also tore open the bag first before handing it to her.
After feeding it the treat, Shaoyuan patted the orange cat’s head. "Off you go."
The orange cat licked its paws but didn’t leave. Instead, it ran over to Shi Changying with a PITTER-PATTER, lay straight down, and rolled over to expose its belly.
Shi Changying stayed silent for a moment. Unable to resist such a temptation, she reached out her hand.
But the moment she placed her hand on the orange cat’s soft, warm belly—before she could even properly feel it—the orange cat let out a MEOW, glared at her fiercely, and ran away.
Shaoyuan said unhurriedly, "It was just showing you goodwill, but that doesn’t mean you can pet it. It can be a hooligan, but you cannot."
Shi Changying stood up expressionlessly and took two steps before suddenly remembering something. "Miss Ning is treating us to dinner. Are you free?"
Shaoyuan hung up a call that had just come in. He said casually, "I’m free now."
At half past five, at Tanxiang Yin.
Inside this high-end, luxurious private restaurant, a group of people was walking inward under the guidance of a waiter.
Old Sir Xu smiled and said, "Thank you all for coming. This restaurant is very hard to book. We only managed to get a reservation thanks to Zhao Yu."
"Old Xu, you have a wonderful daughter," a middle-aged man said, shaking hands with Old Sir Xu. "It’s truly rare for her to still keep her maiden family in mind with everything she does, even after getting married."
Old Sir Xu looked very gratified. "Zhao Yu is our only daughter. She has always been sensible and has always been working hard for this family." If Xu Zhao Yu hadn’t received the news in advance that the Medical Science Academy delegation was coming to Jianghuai, the Xu Family would have definitely missed this great opportunity.
Old Sir Xu extended his hand. "Please, come inside."
The middle-aged man nodded. Just as he was about to enter, the door of the neighboring private room opened. Ning Liuyu, who had been waiting for the arrival of Shi Changying and Shaoyuan, came out for some fresh air.
The assistant was sharp-eyed and looked surprised. "Miss Ning, you’re hosting your dinner here?"
Ning Liuyu was also surprised. "What a coincidence." This restaurant had originally been booked for her by Qi Sha. Its security and confidentiality were exceptionally strong, and the guests who could dine here were either highly respected or incredibly wealthy. It was perfectly normal for the Xu Family to arrange a dinner gathering here.
Old Sir Xu’s spirit lifted. "And this is..."
Ning Liuyu suddenly waved happily. "Miss Shi, over here!"
