Chapter 329: Wanting to Solve the Puzzle of Fate
“Zhaozhao, if you disappear, will Mom and Dad forget you? I remember in some sci-fi movies, when a person vanishes from the world, their family’s memories of them are completely erased too.”
Su’s mother held Su Zhaozhao’s hand, her voice tinged with sorrow.
Su Zhaozhao froze. She hadn’t considered her mother’s question.
‘That’s true. When the time comes, how exactly will I disappear?’
‘I’ll have to ask about that tomorrow when I make the decision.’
“So, Mom and Dad, would you want to forget, or not?” Su Zhaozhao felt it was best to let them decide.
Even if her parents chose to forget her, she would be okay with it.
“No, we don’t want to forget you. Zhaozhao, you’re our daughter. We’ve watched you grow up since you were little. How could we ever forget you?”
Hearing her parents’ words, Su Zhaozhao immediately broke into a smile. “Mom, Dad, I won’t forget you either. Even if we might be separated forever in the future, I will never forget you.”
The three of them hugged again, a feeling of warmth tinged with sorrow spreading through the air.
“Oh, Zhaozhao, can you tell me what your husband looks like?”
“Of course. I can draw him for you.”
Su Zhaozhao immediately grabbed a pen and paper and started to draw.
Fortunately, she had once put effort into learning how to draw. It was sometimes necessary for her work, but more than that, she simply loved to draw, finding it very calming.
And now, it was coming in handy.
Su Zhaozhao barely had to think as she quickly sketched out Xie Huaizheng’s likeness.
Father Su and Su’s mother leaned in for a closer look and saw the handsome face of the man in the drawing.
Su’s mother was astonished. She looked at Su Zhaozhao. “Zhaozhao, are you sure this isn’t just a case of beauty being in the eye of the beholder? Your husband is this handsome? He looks even better than those men in the entertainment industry.”
Su’s mother wasn’t a fan of the pretty-boy types, preferring more masculine men, but she also didn’t really want Su Zhaozhao to marry a soldier.
In her eyes, soldiers were worthy of respect, but to have one as a husband? That meant they would likely be separated often, and he would also face danger.
‘Since Zhaozhao likes him so much, she’ll probably be worried sick all the time, right?’
Besides, Su Zhaozhao had also told her that Xie Huaizheng wasn’t the male lead of the novel, which meant he was more likely to encounter danger.
‘Who knows what will happen in the future.’
“Zhaozhao, will you truly be happy in the future? Once you become a soldier’s wife, your responsibilities will be much heavier than an ordinary wife’s.” Su’s mother squeezed Su Zhaozhao’s hand, still worried.
Hearing her mother’s words, Su Zhaozhao immediately laughed. “Mom, don’t worry. He treats me very well and is super clingy whenever he has free time. I’m all grown up now; I think things through before I act, so you don’t have to worry. Besides, I have my own special ability in that world. If he’s ever mean to me, I’ll just take my ability and run away.”
She hadn’t told Xie Huaizheng about her spatial ability yet. There was no rush.
The fact that she had transmigrated into a book was already a big enough shock for Xie Huaizheng.
As for the other secrets, she had already decided to wait a while. Perhaps she would only tell Xie Huaizheng after they had children.
It wasn’t that she didn’t trust him, but a woman should always have an ace up her sleeve in a relationship.
Especially since she was all alone in that world.
People’s hearts can change easily. No matter how much Xie Huaizheng loved her now, Su Zhaozhao still worried about how human nature might change in the future.
As a psychology expert, she had given this matter a great deal of thought.
“That’s good. Still, I feel so regretful that I won’t be able to see you walk down the aisle. In the future, when you have children, I’m afraid I won’t get to see that either.”
As she said this, Su’s mother couldn’t help but sigh.
Hearing her mother’s words, Su Zhaozhao smiled. “I’ll do my best. If I can come back to this world someday, Mom and Dad, that would be absolutely perfect.”
“I also need to talk to my friends. Oh, I haven’t seen them in so long.”
Su Zhaozhao had three close friends. They had all been friends since their school days, and their bond was incredibly strong.
The thought that she would never see them again made her very sad.
Just then, the scene before Su Zhaozhao’s eyes began to blur. She looked at Father Su and Su’s mother. “Mom, Dad, I have to go back now. You two… take care.”
After Su Zhaozhao finished speaking, she felt the scene in front of her vanish.
Her consciousness plunged into darkness.
When she opened her eyes again, she saw Xie Huaizheng sitting by her side, looking at her with a worried expression.
Seeing Su Zhaozhao wake up, he let out a sigh of relief.
“Zhaozhao, you’re awake? I was calling your name just now, but you wouldn’t wake up. You scared me to death.”
“I just traveled back again and explained everything to my parents.”
As Su Zhaozhao spoke, she felt warm tears welling up and falling from her eyes again.
Before she could reach up to wipe them away, Xie Huaizheng’s hand was already there, gently brushing the tears from her cheeks.
He reached out and pulled her into his arms, looking at her with concern. “Zhaozhao, are you okay?”
He knew that saying goodbye to her parents in the other world must have been heartbreaking for her.
When she was sad, he felt sad too.
Su Zhaozhao nodded. “I’m okay, but when I think about how I might never see them again, I still feel a little heartbroken.”
‘After all, they’re the parents who raised me, who were so good to me.’
And she had originally been worried that her parents wouldn’t understand and would blame her.
But in the end, after learning how well Xie Huaizheng treated her, they let her go, allowing her to choose to be with him.
And they didn’t blame her.
In that moment, Su Zhaozhao’s heart was filled with both sorrow and relief.
At this thought, her tears fell onto Xie Huaizheng’s chest.
“Honey, I’m still so sad. After I talk to the original owner tonight, I probably won’t be able to go back to that world anymore.”
“Zhaozhao, I’m sorry. This is all because of me…” Seeing Su Zhaozhao’s pained expression, Xie Huaizheng felt as if a hand were tightly squeezing his own heart.
The pain made it difficult for him to breathe.
“If only we had met in that world. If I weren’t a character in a novel and we were in the same world, you wouldn’t have to be separated from your parents.”
Thinking of this, Xie Huaizheng was overcome with indignation. ‘Why does it have to be this way?’
‘If this so-called world really has a creator, what right does it have to bully Zhaozhao like this?’
‘It may have brought us together, but it also gave my girl a lifetime of regret.’
‘Can fate truly not be changed?’ he thought.
