Chapter 284: It’s Great to Have a Wife
Chapter 284: Chapter 284: It’s Great to Have a Wife
The next day, Xu Jiaxin left.
It was a weekend, so Su Zhaozhao went to the station to see her off.
Xu Jiaxin was reluctant to leave, but Su Zhaozhao comforted her. "Don’t worry. If you miss me, you can come visit anytime. It’s not easy for me to travel, but it’s easy for you to come here."
"You’re right. We’re so close, what am I crying for?"
Su Zhaozhao smiled and wiped Xu Jiaxin’s eyes.
"Go on, now. Come visit me when you have time."
Su Zhaozhao watched Xu Jiaxin get on the bus. Beside her, Lin Siqian couldn’t help but sneer. "Teacher Su, you’re certainly friendly with those university students. You sure know how to network. You know they’ll have great futures, so you’ve cozied up to them in just a few days? Meanwhile, you barely speak to any of us teachers."
Lin Siqian’s words were dripping with sarcasm.
There were several other elementary school teachers there to see Xu Jiaxin and the others off, and Lin Siqian’s comments were clearly meant for their ears.
At that, Su Zhaozhao frowned. "Of course. I only associate with sincere people."
Hearing this, Lin Siqian sneered. "Are you implying that we’re not sincere?"
"I can’t speak for others, but you certainly are. Teacher Lin, instead of wasting your energy focusing on me, you’d be better off improving your teaching quality. It’s not as if I can’t teach Chinese, you know."
With that said, Su Zhaozhao turned and strode away.
’What a joke,’ she thought. ’I was always incredibly good at humanities.’
Lin Siqian’s eyes went wide at Su Zhaozhao’s words. She wanted to say more, but Su Zhaozhao had already turned her back and left.
’ARGH, she’s making me so mad!’
’She only graduated from junior high, while I, at the very least, have a technical college degree and was assigned to this position. How could I possibly be inferior to Su Zhaozhao?’
However, when Lin Siqian thought about how the students had started to like Su Zhaozhao more than her ever since she began teaching English, she couldn’t help but feel incredibly anxious.
’Was what Su Zhaozhao just said a threat?’
’Was she trying to make me fall in line, or else she’d replace me completely?’
’But what right does she have!’
Lin Siqian decided Su Zhaozhao was just talking nonsense. ’Just because her English is good doesn’t mean her Chinese is. How could one person be so well-rounded?’
Lin Siqian couldn’t stop herself from complaining to the other teachers. "You see? That’s what Su Zhaozhao is like. She’s a new teacher, but she’s so rude when she speaks."
"She is a bit."
"Exactly! I think she’s arrogant. So what if she knows a little English!"
"Teacher Lin, don’t let her get to you. It’s just the recklessness of youth. Just wait until her students have to take real exams. Life won’t be so easy for her then."
The pressure on a teacher for a non-tested subject was completely different from that for a tested one.
Lin Siqian couldn’t agree more.
’That Su Zhaozhao just got a stroke of dumb luck. Who knows if her English skills are even real.’
’She’s probably just pretty and knows how to sweet-talk people in class. She’s really got them all completely fooled.’
Thinking about this, Lin Siqian wanted to laugh.
’Given enough time, everyone will surely see Su Zhaozhao’s true colors.’
Lin Siqian thought to herself that she should buy a gift for the dean of instruction. If she could get on his good side, maybe she could get Su Zhaozhao kicked out of the school.
Su Zhaozhao was oblivious to Lin Siqian’s thoughts. On her way back, she stopped to buy groceries to cook at home.
The weather was getting colder now, and stir-fried dishes cooled down too quickly. Su Zhaozhao decided to make a small hot pot.
She just needed to buy some vegetables, a little lamb, and some lamb bones. She already had other meats in her space.
Back home, she first started stewing the lamb bones, simmering them with spiritual spring water. Then she took out some seasoning packets from her space and added them in.
The seasoning packets contained all sorts of spices.
There were jujubes, goji berries, and more. Simmering them with the lamb bones made for a very nourishing meal.
Su Zhaozhao put everything in to simmer. When Xie Huaizheng returned, she pulled him over to sit down.
Without an induction cooker or anything similar, it wasn’t very convenient. So, Su Zhaozhao set up a small coal stove, which burned quite hot.
Charcoal burned below, and the hot pot sat on top.
Xie Huaizheng breathed in the fragrant aroma of the hot pot and couldn’t help but narrow his eyes. "It smells amazing."
Su Zhaozhao winked at Xie Huaizheng. "Have a couple bowls of soup first."
For this lamb bone broth, she had also added a few lamb ribs, and with the spiritual spring water, it was indescribably delicious.
Xie Huaizheng ladled a bowl of soup for Su Zhaozhao first before getting one for himself.
Xie Huaizheng took a sip. The milky flavor of the lamb, accompanied by the clear, sweet broth, instantly exploded in his mouth. The weariness in his body seemed to be soothed by this single bowl of soup.
His body immediately relaxed.
Xie Huaizheng didn’t know what Su Zhaozhao had added to the soup, or what she put in her cooking in general, but why was it that every time he drank her soup, his body felt so relaxed?
Lately, he felt that his physical constitution had improved quite a bit.
He didn’t get sick as easily, and his stamina had increased.
He drank two bowls of soup in one go before Su Zhaozhao slowly started adding the meat to the pot.
She even took out some beef meatballs.
Of course, this was a product unlocked from her space, but she could always say she saw them for sale at the market and bought some out of curiosity.
As a foodie, Su Zhaozhao had always loved hot pot, especially beef hot pot. You just had to swish the meat in the clear broth for ten-odd seconds before dipping it in sauce and enjoying.
"Try these meatballs, they’re delicious."
Su Zhaozhao picked one up with her chopsticks and placed it in Xie Huaizheng’s bowl.
Xie Huaizheng took a bite. He bit down gently, and it was incredibly springy and burst with juice.
The fragrant, tender flavor of beef filled his mouth.
"This is delicious, Zhaozhao. What kind of meatball is this? It’s my first time eating one."
It was true that he’d never had this kind of meatball before. With his family’s background, eating sliced beef or lamb in hot pot wasn’t exactly rare.
But this was his first time tasting this kind of meatball.
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say it was the most delicious meatball he had ever eaten. Paired with the hot pot, the taste was out of this world!
"Good, right? I saw someone selling them at the market today, so I bought a few to try. They’re even better than the meatballs we used to make at home."
Su Zhaozhao smiled at Xie Huaizheng.
She then added a lot more meat into the pot for Xie Huaizheng to eat.
She was well aware that with Xie Huaizheng’s current training load, he needed to eat more meat. Nourishing meats like beef and lamb were especially important to give him strength.
She, on the other hand, couldn’t eat that much herself.
By the end of the meal, Xie Huaizheng had polished off all the leftovers. Su Zhaozhao just ate a few green vegetables to cleanse her palate.
Xie Huaizheng realized that since getting together with Su Zhaozhao, his dining experience had improved immensely.
He had been eating at the military district cafeteria for so many years that he was long sick of it.
Eating out at restaurants?
It was always the same old places. It was boring.
But Su Zhaozhao was always coming up with different ways to make him delicious food.
’It’s great having a wife!’
Xie Huaizheng thought with emotion.
