Chapter 249: Want to Bully His Wife? No Way
Chapter 249: Chapter 249: Want to Bully His Wife? No Way
Watching Wang Anning’s commanding presence, Su Zhaozhao couldn’t help but applaud her silently.
’Just as you’d expect from the director of the Women’s Federation,’ she thought. ’That presence alone tells you she’s no ordinary person.’
As soon as Wang Anning shouted, everyone around instantly fell silent.
Even Zhang Jufang, who just a moment ago had been spouting all sorts of nonsense, was now intimidated by Wang Anning’s powerful aura.
After a long moment, she finally said, "Um... Sister Wang, we can’t just dismiss it like that. An accusation like this can’t have come from nowhere. Look how well-written this letter is. Could someone just make all this up?"
Su Zhaozhao looked at Zhang Jufang. She knew the woman was still trying her hardest to ruin her reputation completely.
’It seems I was too merciful to her before,’ she thought. ’I never expected she’d be the type to kick someone when they’re down.’
"Of course it can be made up! I’ve been the director of the Women’s Federation for years, what kind of rumor haven’t I seen? This letter has no proof, it just twists a few facts to jump to a conclusion. You call that anything but a rumor?"
Wang Anning glared at Zhang Jufang in annoyance. "Are you willing to guarantee that this isn’t a rumor?"
Zhang Jufang had been about to say something in her defense, but Wang Anning’s words threw her into a panic.
She had only wanted to kick Su Zhaozhao while she was down, to use the chaos to push her over the edge.
She hadn’t intended to become the target of everyone’s criticism.
For a moment, she was too scared to speak. Wang Anning turned her gaze to Gu Qingran. "How about we let this comrade explain herself? Where is your so-called evidence?"
"I..." Gu Qingran realized they didn’t believe her at all. ’I’ve been telling them this whole time that I didn’t write the anonymous letter, but not a single one of them believes me?’
Even the director of the Women’s Federation was now demanding evidence from her directly.
Gu Qingran’s face turned deathly pale. ’It looks like there’s no point in analyzing the handwriting anymore.’
’They’re all convinced I did it. Arguing any further is pointless.’
’If they actually get a professional to identify it, I’ll be done for.’
"Fine, I admit it. I wrote it," Gu Qingran said.
The moment she spoke, Li Tiantian sneered. "Oh? Weren’t you just lying through your teeth and denying it? And now you’re admitting it?"
"I only denied it because I was afraid you would hit me for revealing this information... After all, I know exposing someone’s private affairs is a terrible thing to do." As Gu Qingran spoke, her body began to tremble, and a film of tears welled up in her eyes.
She looked just like a poor, pitiful thing being horribly bullied.
"Stop acting!" Li Tiantian snapped.
"Even if you confess, they’ll still bully you. You don’t know, do you? This director of the Women’s Federation is actually the mother of one of Su Zhaozhao’s friends. Of course she’s going to take Su Zhaozhao’s side." Zhang Jufang suddenly realized this and sneered. "Oh, dear. It looks like Su Zhaozhao will be cleared of all charges this time. Even if your evidence is real, no one will believe you now."
Wang Anning looked at Zhang Jufang and let out a laugh of pure anger. "Zhang Jufang, is it? You seem to have far too much time on your hands. For years, I’ve fought for benefits for us military wives, worked hard to solve your employment issues, childcare problems, healthcare, housing, and more. When you have problems big or small that you can’t handle at home, you come to the Women’s Federation. After all that, for you to say something like this... Do you think my heart doesn’t grow cold?"
It was true; over the years, Wang Anning had wholeheartedly dedicated herself to caring for the women of the compound, and everyone had seen it with their own eyes.
Now, hearing Zhang Jufang’s slander and Wang Anning’s heartfelt words, the other women began to side with Director Wang and condemn Zhang Jufang.
"Zhang Jufang, watch your mouth! Director Wang has done so much for us and has always been so dedicated. And this is how you repay her? By slandering her!"
"Exactly! Have you no conscience? If you have any problems at home in the future, let’s see you have the guts to not go running to Director Wang."
"It seems to me you’re just siding with the accuser. Zhaozhao is a good girl. You just don’t get along with her, so you keep making things up," Zhou Xiaoyun couldn’t help but add.
This Zhang Jufang was truly despised by everyone. How could she be so thick-skinned as to jump out and start a confrontation like this?
It was simply outrageous!
"Don’t you talk nonsense!" Zhang Jufang shrieked. "You’re all ganging up on me, aren’t you! You think I’m an easy target? Just because my husband’s rank is low, you all think you can bully me?"
Unable to argue against so many people, Zhang Jufang immediately started wailing, though not a single tear fell.
Su Zhaozhao was tired of the spectacle. She said to Zhang Jufang, "If you love acting so much, you should join a theater troupe. That way you won’t be stuck at home with nothing to do but spread gossip."
"You! What right do you have to say that to me? You should worry about yourself!" Zhang Jufang retorted, pointing at Su Zhaozhao.
"Yes, I am worrying about myself. So, Gu Qingran, where did you hear that I was sleeping around? And where did you get the idea that I’m not qualified to be a teacher at the military district’s primary school?"
"I wrote it all down clearly in the letter. You broke off your engagement with your former fiancé because you looked down on his poor family, and then you found another man whose name sounds exactly like his. Isn’t that strange? And all within the same military base! To put it nicely, you’re promiscuous. To put it bluntly? You’re undermining military morale! Both of their positions are quite high. What if they start fighting amongst themselves because of you!" Gu Qingran finished in one breath.
Su Zhaozhao almost felt like applauding. ’As expected of the original female lead,’ she thought. ’Her actions are foolish, but her reasoning is crystal clear. It’s just a shame to see such eloquence wasted on such stupid deeds.’
"And why can’t I be a teacher at the military district’s primary school?"
"Because you have a low level of education. You aren’t qualified. Even a proper university student like me has to go through a screening process to teach at the military district’s primary school, right? But from what I know, you only graduated from junior high."
"My educational background might be a talking point, but the college entrance exams have only recently been reinstated. The entire country is currently focused on finding talented people. Someone with genuine knowledge and ability shouldn’t be judged solely on their diploma."
Su Zhaozhao paused for a moment. "The principal and several teachers from the military district’s primary school interviewed me. If you don’t believe I’m up to the task, you can ask them if I’m qualified."
"Hmph, who knows if you got in through connections," Zhang Jufang muttered. "Your husband is so powerful. He probably pulled some strings for you, didn’t he?"
"Is that so? Then how about I show you what pulling strings looks like?" a voice suddenly interjected.
Everyone immediately turned to look and saw Xie Huaizheng walking in with several other men.
No one knew when they had arrived. The group included Xie Huaizhen, the principal of the military district’s primary school, and even Zhang Jufang’s husband.
It happened to be lunchtime, and as soon as Xie Huaizheng heard about the situation, he had immediately gathered the witnesses.
’Bully his wife?’ he thought. ’Not a chance in hell.’
