Chapter 2729 An Acquaintance
Chapter 2729 An Acquaintance
Ji Xiaobo was initially ready to show off, but now he was dumbfounded. He turned to Fang Heng, giving him a pleading look for help.
Fang Heng stepped forward, coldly surveying the people around him.
"Move aside."
Just a single sentence, yet everyone immediately felt a surge of lifeblood rushing through their bodies!
What the hell?
Everyone turned to look at Fang Heng in shock.
The sensation of their blood boiling became more intense, almost as if it were about to burn them alive.
At the same time, they realized with horror that they had lost control of their bodies!
D*mn it!
Their blood kept accelerating, veins bulging, faces turning redder by the second.
"Heh, I thought it was someone important. Turns out it's Boss Fang," a slightly lecherous voice suddenly rang out from behind. "Boss Fang, you're gracing us with your presence. Why didn't you give us a heads-up?"
Fang Heng turned toward the voice. He saw an old man, whose appearance carried a slightly sleazy vibe, walking toward him surrounded by a group of people.
"Hey, these few juniors don't know better. You're an adult now, so don't bother with them."
Fang Heng stared at the approaching figure, a flash of surprise crossing his face.
No way!
It was Old Black!
"Interesting. When did you join the Shadow Alliance?"
"Heh heh, that's the way it is. Wherever there's profit to be made, I'll go there. It's tough out here these days; if I can get something for free, I won't pass it up," Old Black said with a grin. Glancing at his subordinates, he walked over to Fang Heng, leaned in, and whispered, "Brother Fang, don't mind them. This group is my crew."
Hearing this, Fang Heng released his control over the guards.
The guards quickly regained control of their bodies. It felt as though they'd just walked through some sort of energy barrier. They hastily bowed and apologized, "Sorry, Boss Fang. We didn't recognize you. We're truly sorry. Please..."
Ji Xiaobo shrugged, thinking to himself that once again, Brother Fang's influence had saved the day. He'd been outshone once more by Fang Heng.
"What's this? Not asking for our credentials anymore?"
"Of course not!"
Ji Xiaobo, still a little irritated, asked, "So what exactly are the Shadow Guild's credentials? Why didn't I know about them?"
"Sorry, sorry," the subordinate continued apologizing. "Honestly, we don't even know if the Shadow Guild has credentials. I just felt you were speaking too politely, not like people from the Shadow Guild, so I wanted to test you."
Ji Xiaobo couldn't help muttering under his breath, "Seriously, why can't they just speak properly?"
Old Black chuckled heartily, "Hahaha, these young lads don't know better. I apologize on their behalf. Please, follow me."
Fang Heng nodded and, with Ji Xiaobo and Tang Chuji in tow, followed Old Black.
Until most of the people around had dispersed, Fang Heng finally asked, "What's going on?"
"It's nothing much. A few days ago, we took on a big job. The employer asked us to spread the word about the Holy Court's Holy Realm being severely damaged and that there was a holy weapon in the Temple of Mist in Amrit. We were tasked with contacting interested parties to join the Shadow Alliance to deal with the Holy Court," Old Black explained.
"The Holy Court has always portrayed itself as the messenger of justice, offending many forces over the years. A lot of people have already gathered, and we've completed most of the mission. To prevent anyone from the Holy Court from infiltrating, we set up a screening at the entrance," Old Black continued.
Ji Xiaobo, hearing this for the first time, was taken aback, "So, you were the ones who spread the word about the trouble in the Holy Realm?"
"Heh, yep," Old Black chuckled. "How about that? Pretty good business skills, right? If you have any jobs in the future, you can consider me. My rates are a bit higher, but you know, you get what you pay for."
Ji Xiaobo just rolled his eyes.
Not to mention, he and Fang Heng had infiltrated many places together, but it was here, of all places, that Old Black's subordinates spotted their slip-up.
Old Black's business skills were no joke.
"Being able to spot my flaw means you're pretty good," Ji Xiaobo admitted.
"Too kind, too kind. A little brother like you, claiming to be from the Shadow Guild, must know a lot about them. If it were someone else, they would have probably slipped through unnoticed. You really are quite knowledgeable, one of the best in your generation," Old Black praised.
Tang Chuji, hearing them praise each other, couldn't help but roll his eyes and laugh bitterly.
What were these two doing?
Fang Heng knew Old Black was very professional and wouldn't leak the employer's details, so he asked, "Old Black, do you know what trouble the Holy Realm has encountered?"
"I'm not sure, but I've heard the trouble is serious. The Holy Realm has cut off most of its communication with the outside world, and Amrit is one of the few areas still in contact," Old Black explained.
He then looked at Fang Heng, "You guys are a bit late to the game. Are you here to cause trouble for the Holy Court, or are you after the so-called holy weapon treasure?"
"Both," Ji Xiaobo nodded. "The Holy Court has always been at odds with us undead, so this is a good opportunity to make them remember. We've heard there's a large Descent device built by the Holy Court here, and we plan to destroy it. Of course, it'd be even better if we could get the holy weapon."
Upon hearing this, Old Black wore an inscrutable smile.
Ji Xiaobo frowned, "What's wrong?"
"It's nothing. The information you received is correct," Old Black said. "The Descent device you're looking for is in the back hall of the Temple of Mist on the Holy Mountain, and the holy weapon is hidden there as well."
"But getting into the Temple of Mist is not easy right now."
As he spoke, Old Black led Fang Heng and the others into the area at the foot of the Holy Mountain.
Many members of the Shadow Alliance had gathered there.
Looking up, the summit of the mountain was shrouded in clouds.
The mountain wall was nearly vertical, and after climbing just a few dozen meters, it was engulfed by thick clouds.
It would be difficult for ordinary people to climb up.
Fang Heng withdrew his gaze from the mountain wall and asked, "Old Black, you're not telling me we have to climb up to the Temple of Mist, are you?"
"You guessed it right. If you climb up the rock face for a few hundred meters, you'll reach the Temple of Mist. Of course, the Holy Court usually enters the temple through the teleportation passage, but that's been completely shut off now," Old Black explained.
Ji Xiaobo asked, "What about flying? Or climbing?"
"That's probably going to be tough."
"Chirp!!!"
At that moment, a sharp screech rang out from the high sky.
Looking up at the sky, a flash of bright red gleamed through the dark golden clouds, revealing something hidden within.
"Ah!!!!"
Two of the Shadow Alliance's henchmen screamed as they fell from the thick clouds, crashing to the ground with a heavy thud. Their bodies were charred black, completely lifeless.
Old Black was already used to scenes like this. He waved his hand, signaling the others to quickly handle the bodies.
Tang Chuji looked up at the sky, her eyes filled with a peculiar expression. She quietly asked, "Is that an Immortal Fire Phoenix?"
"Not bad."
