Chapter 940: Xiao Chong Extra Story 26
During the hot summer vacation, Lin Wanwan loved going to the library. There was free air conditioning, and the environment was comfortable.
She didn’t have a cell phone, so it was hard to contact her once she went out.
Xiao Chong ran home, set his things down, then, without saying a word, pulled out his phone to order a ride-hailing car to the city library where Lin Wanwan often went.
He hadn’t seen Lin Wanwan for twenty-one days, and he missed her terribly.
The city library was very large, but Xiao Chong went there late, and it was already packed with people, with no good seats left.
However, he wasn’t there to read; he was there to "accidentally" meet Lin Wanwan.
Although the library had many extensive reading areas, Lin Wanwan always liked to study in the borrowing section on the first floor and the self-service library, so after entering the library, Xiao Chong headed straight to the borrowing section.
Standing in the hall and scanning the crowd, he quickly spotted Lin Wanwan in the row by the bookshelves.
What made him frown, however, was that next to Lin Wanwan sat a stranger, frequently glancing at her with a clearly questionable demeanor.
Xiao Chong took a step toward Lin Wanwan, then stood beside her, with his hand resting on the table corner, slightly bending forward, and whispered, "Hey beautiful, reading?"
Lin Wanwan saw that perfect and slender hand and immediately knew it was Xiao Chong. Her heart inexplicably raced.
She looked up at him. He was wearing a baseball cap and a mask, so she lowered her voice: "What a coincidence, you’re here too?"
Xiao Chong leaned closer and whispered back: "Want to go back to my place? The study room in my loft is quieter."
She glanced around; the place was full, and even if there were seats, it would take a while to find one, so she nodded: "Okay."
Xiao Chong helped her pack her bag and then carried it himself, looking down at her: "Let’s go."
"Mm." Lin Wanwan followed behind him with her head lowered,
Even in such a quiet environment, speaking softly felt like inviting reproachful stares, making it awkward.
It was about ten-thirty in the morning then. The summer sun was blazing, and everything seemed parched, except for the ceaseless chirping of cicadas and the noise of traffic.
Lin Wanwan took out a sunshade from the backpack that Xiao Chong helped carry, and tilted her head to ask Xiao Chong: "Want to share the umbrella?"
Xiao Chong gladly said: "Sure, the sun is really strong."
Lin Wanwan then simply handed the umbrella to Xiao Chong: "Then you take it, you’re too tall, I can’t hold it up."
"Okay." Xiao Chong took it with one hand and they walked out of the library together under the umbrella.
As they walked side by side for a few steps, Lin Wanwan tilted her head and said with a smile: "Congratulations, you got a guaranteed admission, life will be easier now."
Xiao Chong smiled: "Thanks. It’s all thanks to your convincing, or I’d have another hard year ahead."
Lin Wanwan brushed back the hair by her ear, her cheeks flushing: "Oh, it’s all you being awesome, you can pick any school in the country. So, are you still going to senior year?"
Xiao Chong replied: "I will, but not every day."
"Why are you wearing a mask? Isn’t it hot?" Lin Wanwan asked curiously.
Xiao Chong shrugged: "I made it to two trending topics, so I get interrupted everywhere I go, so..."
"Oh!" Lin Wanwan understood.
With looks like Xiao Chong’s, which couldn’t be hidden, once his guaranteed admission was public, he would surely become a sensation in the Yongcheng student circles.
Their ride took them to the neighborhood entrance, where Lin Wanwan insisted that Xiao Chong lead the way before she followed him in.
They entered Xiao Chong’s home one after the other.
A refreshing breeze came through, and Lin Wanwan said in surprise: "You didn’t turn off the air conditioning?"
Xiao Chong explained: "I remotely turned it on while we were in the car, so it’s cool when we arrive home."
Lin Wanwan wore a look of new-found understanding, sighing: "Technology is really advanced these days."
"Yeah, modern technology is indeed advanced." Xiao Chong went into the kitchen and took out a box of chocolates, handing it to Lin Wanwan, "These were brought from abroad, try them."
"Thank you." Lin Wanwan took it, glanced at the brand, and exclaimed, "Wow, Godiva, several hundred per box, Qi Bingqiong once brought them to class."
Just to show off to everyone.
"You should have them, these chocolates are so expensive."
Xiao Chong said casually: "The team leader treated us, not my money, don’t feel stressed, let’s enjoy them together."
He then popped one into his mouth, and seeing Lin Wanwan unmoved, chuckled: "What, do you want me to feed you?"
Lin Wanwan glared at him: "No need!"
"Then don’t be polite with me." With that, Xiao Chong handed a new iPhone to Lin Wanwan, "Prize. I have a phone already, you can use this."
Lin Wanwan shook her head: "I don’t want it, I don’t need a phone. You can give it to your parents or friends."
Xiao Chong was helpless: "How could you not need one; having a phone is so convenient. Like today, if it wasn’t for our connection, in such a big library, how could I find you."
"Anyway, I don’t want it." Lin Wanwan was very firm.
Having interacted with Xiao Chong, she felt she already owed too much. For something as expensive yet non-essential as a phone, she didn’t want to take advantage.
Seeing her insistence, Xiao Chong could only smile wryly: "Alright, you have your principles, it’s your call."
