Chapter 2409: Chapter 2409: Finale
After finishing with the second family’s matters, the old lady looked at Third Lu, then silently withdrew her gaze.
Third Lu, “…”
He couldn’t help but stand up with his wine glass, “Mother, what about us? Aren’t you going to say anything?”
The old lady genuinely didn’t want to say much, “You’ve always been sharp, the most capable of slacking off among your siblings. I never worry about you nor do I expect much. But now you have a decent job and bought a house; it’s quite good. Dabao is studying and reasonable now, and Baoya is obedient. You’re luckier than your two brothers and sister.”
Third Lu was proud, he and Madam Liang didn’t feel at all that the old lady was criticizing them.
She was saying they were lucky, wasn’t that praising them?
So, Third Lu pulled Madam Liang and the two kids, and very earnestly said, “Mother, rest assured, we will be even luckier in the future. Let’s finish this glass.”
Then he drank it in one gulp.
Old lady, “…”
Originally everyone felt a bit emotional by the old lady’s words, but now they all wanted to laugh.
The old lady patted her forehead and finally looked at Sixing, “Over these years, I’ve put all my focus on your brothers, haven’t been able to take care of you, making you suffer grievances.”
“No, Mother, you have been very good to me already.” Sixing did not say wrong, the old lady’s energy was limited, considering the second brother’s family’s situation, what else could she have done?
Just look at other families in the village; once daughters are married off, it’s not bad if their families don’t strip them of everything to support their brothers. But the old lady knew it was tough for her in the Yuan family, so while her family couldn’t help her, they tried not to let her take things from her husband’s family for support, lest she couldn’t hold her head high in front of her in-laws and sisters-in-law and had no ground to stand on when oppressed.
The old lady smiled, “Fortunately, your husband is nice and good to you, and is now working at the office. Xiaozhen and Quanquan are well-behaved and sensible, you’re diligent and capable, your days will not be bad.”
After saying this, she drank another glass of wine.
Finally, she looked at Granny Fang beside her, “Caixia, our reunion is truly… fulfilling.”
She raised her eyes to the crowd, tears gathered at the corner of her eyes, “I’m sorry everyone, today is a grand reunion, watching you all, I can’t help but recall past days, I’ve talked a bit much. Alright, I won’t say more, on this New Year’s Eve, I hope everyone will be safe and sound, united and harmonious, and live prosperous days.”
The old lady raised her wine glass, “Cheers!!”
Everyone stood up, even the little kids were holding their freshly squeezed orange juice, standing up, bouncing and jumping with joy, shouting loudly, “Cheers!”
The Lu family’s New Year’s Eve was even more lively than usual.
Perhaps it was the old lady’s words, but all of the Lu family siblings gathered together, reminiscing about the past, talking while eating and drinking, and each of them seemed a bit tipsy.
After the children were full and had enough to drink, they ran wildly in the courtyard. Rarely did so many kids gather together, and even in the cold weather, they got sweaty from running around.
As the sky gradually darkened, Shu Yu sat under the veranda, drinking warm carp soup while leaning against Meng Yunzheng. It seemed like a vacuum zone in front of them, with no one coming up to disturb.
The children knew she was pregnant and didn’t dare run near to play.
Meng Yunzheng exhaled a puff of white breath, held her and quietly asked, “What are you thinking about?”
“Nothing, just feel… very at peace, I really like this kind of life.”
She thought, far in another world, little Shu Yu, under the love of her parents, would also live very happily.
With a “whoosh,” fireworks were ignited not far away, exploding in the sky, eliciting increasingly excited shouting from the children…
