Chapter 86 - Come and Take It If You Want (2)
Chapter 86: Come and Take It If You Want (2)
The two fell into dead silence at the end of their respective lines. Immediately after, a furious shout burst out from the other end of line, “Fake?! Then why did your personal assistant even have to chase after the thief all over the street?! He also shouted so loudly as if he wanted to tell the world that something important from your company had been stolen! Do you think I look like a fool to you?!”
“You’re indeed quite foolish,” Mu Tingfeng remained expressionless, but the hint of a smile in his eyes had shown otherwise.
Most people might not have seen him through. But the old butler was different. He grew up watching Mu Tingfeng. How could he not notice even the slightest bit of changes from the young master?
As such, the old butler grew increasingly surprised, and he wondered when did the young master and Ms. Zhao…
“What did you say?!” Zhao Youlin exploded. Luckily, the two of them were physically separated by a telephone line. Otherwise, she could not guarantee to anyone that she would not pounce on him on the spot, fists flying.
“The thief was a corporate spy from a rival. The documents we allowed to fall into his hands were just a part of the act in order to set him up. If not for your sudden appearance, the good show would have ended on a high note.”
Unbeknownst to Mu Tingfeng, he normally did not bother to explain himself to others. Today, he actually spoke just for the sake of… putting her on the spot.
As Mu Tingfeng expected, despite not telling her everything in detail, Zhao Youlin was not a fool and so, how could she not understand the meaning laid beneath his words?
She was kind enough to help a certain one catch the thief for half of the day. She ended up causing others trouble. He had long set up everything and played along with them in order to lure the spy out so that the spy could reveal his true colors and he could arrest the spy red-handed. However, she was the one who accidentally messed up his plan.
In fact, she had injured herself and lost time and her documents because of this. She sacrificed herself and even suffered a major loss.
Zhao Youlin’s anger only intensified as she thought about it. She gave the bedside table another kick.
Meanwhile, Mu Tingfeng heard a dull thud at his end. He raised his eyebrow and deliberately said, “Ms. Zhao, I’ll hang up if there’s nothing else. I have a lot of things to do here.”
The old butler and the maid who heard the rumors snuck out of every corner of the house. Some of them had been cleaning the living hall, packing the garbage, preparing supper, as well as others who were wandering around in the hall nearly stumbled. They saluted him when they overhead the young master, who was always serious, actually speaking like this while remaining expressionless.
‘A lot of things to do?’ He had been sitting in the hall since afternoon. Although he looked like he was reading a newspaper, he was actually daydreaming. In fact, his mind had been wandering about the entire afternoon. How could a person tell a lie so brazenly, saying that he was very busy?!
Unfortunately, the person on the other end did not know the truth at all and was fooled by President Mu. When she heard him sounding as if he was about to end their conversation, she hurriedly snapped, “Hold on!”
Mu Tingfeng pretended to sound impatient and asked her back, “Is there anything else?”
Zhao Youlin forced herself to keep her cool. She drew in several breaths and gritted her teeth as she blurted out, “Your documents are with me, and you took mine as well.”
“So?” Thankfully Zhao Youlin could not see Mu Tingfeng in person right now. Otherwise, she would have bared her teeth as she faced the man’s cold, dark eyes.
“So, both of us accidentally took the wrong things. Don’t you think you should give me back my things?!”
“Why should I?” He replied to the furious Zhao Youlin, sounding as if it was just a simple issue.
“What?!”
“Indeed we’ve taken the wrong things. But, you took the things on your own. What you’ve taken is just a pile of scrap paper whereas I’ve taken something which seems to be crucial to you. Their values are different. So, why should I give them back to you?”
Zhao Youlin fell speechless.
At that moment, a slew of thoughts raged in Zhao Youlin’s heart. In the end, all the frustration and helplessness resulted in two words. “Darn it”.
