“Right, right, I also think she’s prettier than Li Ting,” Yao Xi echoed. “Before, her bangs were so long; they covered her eyes, and she always kept her head down. I never got a clear look at her face, or else we wouldn’t have just realized today that she’s so pretty.”
Xue Yan didn’t ask who Li Ting was. He wasn’t interested in those things at all; he simply asked, “Have you guys had lunch yet?”
“We ate half an hour ago, haven’t you eaten?”
“No.”
“Then you should hurry to the cafeteria and eat.”
“Yeah,” Xue Yan responded, just as he received a message from his Yue Bao at home. Then he left the dormitory again. The cafeteria was on the way past the girls’ dormitory, so Xue Yan ran into Jiang Yue at the entrance of the girls’ dorm and they went to the cafeteria together, and nobody found anything strange about it.
While eating on the second floor of the cafeteria, Xue Yan received a call from the homeroom teacher, asking him to pick up his school uniform and student ID at two that afternoon.
As both of them were students now, it wasn’t appropriate to be together all the time. Thus, after eating, they went their separate ways. It wasn’t two o’clock yet, so not only did Jiang Yue go back to her dorm, but Xue Yan also returned to his.
When Jiang Yue had returned earlier, Xu Yi wasn’t there; now that she was back again, Xu Yi was there, studying at the desk. Jiang Yue gave her a bottle of drink and two apples.
She immediately took her laptop out of the wardrobe. The dormitory shared one large desk in the middle of the room where everyone kept their things like books and lamps whereas other items, especially valuables, were typically locked in the wardrobe. Thefts sometimes occurred inside the dormitory building, so the dorm manager regularly reminded them to secure their valuables and preferably not to bring them to the dormitory at all. Jiang Yue planned to go online and check some forums to look for a high-paying coding job.
Though Xu Yi was studying, the laptop’s keyboard was almost silent and didn’t disturb her.
But Xu Yi, sitting across the table, saw her take out a laptop bag and pull out a brand-new computer, and she also had a brand-new phone. She couldn’t help but ask, “Jiang Yue, where did you get the phone and laptop from? I saw that laptop brand at the computer mall before; it’s really expensive, isn’t it? Like over ten thousand, right?”
Unable to tell the truth, Jiang Yue simply said, “When I went out to buy a pen, I happened to run into Xue Yan. He saw I didn’t have these two things, so he lent them to me for the time being. He has extras anyway; they’d just be sitting around otherwise.”
“Rich kids are really something else. But he’s so good to you,” Xu Yi said, clearly envious. She had a computer too, but it was at home, and it cost only three thousand. It was nothing compared to this one.
Jiang Yue found it difficult to tell the truth: “It’s because he’s a good person,” she said lightly, glossing over Xu Yi’s remark about Xue Yan being overly good to her.
Xu Yi was mainly curious; her mind was actually preoccupied with the upcoming placement exam tomorrow, so she didn’t say anything more.
However, watching Jiang Yue open her laptop, go online, and rapidly type on the keyboard without making a sound, was intriguing. Despite not being disturbed by the noise, the speed was so astonishing that she couldn’t help but speak up, “Your typing speed is even faster than mine.”
She was genuinely shocked.
The person opposite her didn’t have a cell phone before, right? And probably not a computer either? Then how could she be so skilled?
Jiang Yue explained, “Sometimes during holidays, my brother would take me to the internet cafe, so I guess I got good that way.”
“Oh, I see. You really can’t judge a book by its cover,” Xu Yi nodded, marveling a bit more before she finally stopped talking and completely immersed herself in her studies.
