Chapter 1895: Extra: A Brand New Life 10 (Jiang Yue and Xue Yan)
Xue Yan said, “There’s over a thousand in cash and tens of thousands in the bank card. The meal card is also well-funded; my dad topped it up when he dropped me off this morning.”
“That’s enough. Later, we’ll go to the computer town and buy two laptops, one for you and one for me. Then I’ll write some code to make some money. With coding, we won’t need to skip classes to go out of school, and we can earn more. I’ll earn the money first, and you focus on studying. Once you’ve learned everything, we can start making money together.”
Xue Yan also knew that his immediate priority was to study and improve his grades, so naturally, he had no objections. He just added, “You don’t have a phone, so let’s buy a mobile phone as well.”
Having a phone would make communication easier, so Jiang Yue nodded and said, “Hmm.”
Since they also needed to buy elementary and middle school textbooks, which were not available near No. 3 Middle School and if they were, the collection was incomplete. Plus, even if they managed to gather them all, it would be impractical to carry around so many books and materials. Therefore, after leaving the tea shop, Jiang Yue and Xue Yan decided to go to computer town first to buy computers and a phone, and then go shopping for textbooks and materials.
The most expensive computers in the computer town of this small county were only over ten thousand. Xue Yan had used computers during the apocalypse but didn’t fully understand their construction. Therefore, the task of choosing the computers was left to Jiang Yue.
Jiang Yue examined the specifications carefully and indeed found that the ones over ten thousand were much better than the cheaper models. However, compared to the computers from the apocalypse, these were still not ideal. Therefore, Jiang Yue bought some additional components and then started modifying them right there in the computer town, leaving the onlookers dumbfounded.
The modifications were done on the more expensive laptops, which after the upgrades had improved performance, faster operating speeds, and overall major enhancements. Jiang Yue was somewhat satisfied with the result.
Xue Yan paid for the computers. Both laptops went into his backpack for him to carry.
They also bought a wireless network card since there was no internet in the dormitory buildings. With this card, they could go online when needed.
They spent three thousand yuan on a mobile phone and also got a SIM card. Xue Yan immediately saved the number, making future contact with his family and Yue Bao even more convenient.
Then they went to a well-stocked large bookstore and purchased all the textbooks from elementary to high school. The third-year high school textbooks would be distributed during the evening self-study session, so there was no need to buy those. However, they did purchase a lot of study materials for the third year, as well as paper and pens, amounting to a total of three large cardboard boxes.
Carrying them back was not feasible, so they took a taxi. Since cars were not allowed inside the school, the taxi could only stop at the gate and drop them off there.
Even though both of them were strong, they still couldn’t carry three large cardboard boxes to the dormitory entrance by themselves. Furthermore, girls were not allowed in the boys’ dormitory and vice versa. Therefore, Xue Yan called Chen Sheng, the physical education representative from their class and also his roommate, to help with the move.
Chen Sheng arrived right away. He was a sports student from their class, very tall and strong, and incredibly sunny. He brought along another boy from their dormitory, a head shorter than him, with a buzz cut, slightly darker skin, named Yao Xi. Xue Yan had already met him before in the dormitory.
Being a transfer student, Xue Yan was new, but Jiang Yue was not. Chen Sheng and Yao Xi naturally knew of Jiang Yue from their class. Seeing Jiang Yue and Xue Yan together left them stunned initially — they almost didn’t recognize her. The girl had only changed her bangs and switched her low ponytail to a high one, yet she seemed like a totally different person, puzzling and yet exceedingly attractive. After their moment of bewilderment, they hurriedly greeted them.
