Every Sentinel I Dreamed of Came Looking for Me

Chapter 323: If You Like Someone, Should You Say It Out Loud?

“Yun Sheng, what are you looking at?” a crisp voice rang out beside her.

Li Wen, having finished her onboarding procedures, had walked up to Yun Sheng without her noticing. Seeing Yun Sheng staring blankly toward the door, completely oblivious to her approach, Li Wen couldn’t help but glance in the same direction, though she saw nothing.

The voice instantly pulled Yun Sheng’s wandering thoughts back, and she snapped out of her daze. Remembering that Bai Ye was still waiting for her at the door, she turned to Li Wen and said, “Something just came up that I need to handle. You go find Cheng Nian first, and I’ll meet up with you guys a bit later.”

Li Wen looked at her, then glanced at the door again. Her mind whirred, and she teased with a smile, “Alright, I’ll go find Cheng Nian first. You’d better not stand us up, or Cheng Nian will definitely explode.”

Amused, Yun Sheng’s eyes curved into a gentle smile as she replied softly, “Don’t worry, I definitely won’t this time.”

After saying goodbye to Li Wen, she walked quickly out of the lecture hall. But when she reached the entrance, she didn’t see that familiar, tall figure. Yun Sheng instinctively looked around but still couldn’t spot him. A faint, inexplicable sense of disappointment brushed across her heart.

Right then, the terminal on her wrist vibrated slightly. A new message popped up. It was from Bai Ye again.

[It’s not convenient to talk down here. Come to the office on the far left of the twelfth floor.]

Yun Sheng glanced at it, turned on her heel, and headed straight for the elevators. She soon arrived on the twelfth floor and followed the corridor to the office door on the far left. Looking at the tightly shut door in front of her, Yun Sheng paused. In that brief moment of distraction, the office door was suddenly pulled open from the inside.

Bai Ye stood behind the door, dressed in a neat, tailored dark-green military uniform. The sharp, distinct epaulets were adorned with fine starlight patterns, looking crisp and majestic, perfectly outlining his broad shoulders and narrow waist. His features were already handsome and striking, but the uniform made his eyes and brows look even deeper and more defined. With his cold-white skin and sharp jawline, every contour was clean and fierce, giving him an overwhelmingly striking appearance.

Yun Sheng stared at him blankly, unable to tear her eyes away. Her mind went completely blank for a moment, totally captivated.

Bai Ye took in her stunned expression, a faint smile flashing through his eyes, so fast it was hard to catch. He didn’t say anything to tease her; instead, he leaned in slightly and grabbed her wrist. His fingertips were slightly cool. With a gentle pull, he pulled the dazed Yun Sheng straight into the office.

The door closed behind them. THUD. The muffled sound instantly jolted Yun Sheng back to her senses. She gently struggled and pulled her hand back.

With his fingertips suddenly empty, Bai Ye’s movements stiffened. He lowered his eyes to look at his empty palm. The faint smile in his eyes faded in an instant, quietly replaced by a touch of disappointment. However, he hid it exceptionally well. He suppressed all his emotions in the blink of an eye, not letting Yun Sheng notice a thing.

Yun Sheng was looking at him now. “You specifically called me up here. What did you want to say?” she asked in a low voice. “Is it about Lin Yueyao, or Dark Nest?”

Hearing this, Bai Ye raised his hand and pointed to the sofa nearby, gesturing for her to take a seat. After the two sat down one after another, Bai Ye finally spoke.

“Lin Yueyao already confessed when she was with Si Jin. The reason she was able to awaken as an S-class Guide was not because of her own talent, but because of a guide induction agent developed by Dark Nest.

“After that, she was absorbed into Dark Nest and secretly did a lot of things for them. But she refuses to say exactly what she did, who she usually contacted, and how she was approached in the first place. She…”

He abruptly stopped mid-sentence. Looking at Yun Sheng, his brows furrowed unconsciously, and his gaze seemed a bit gloomy.

Seeing his knitted brows, Yun Sheng’s heart instinctively skipped a beat. Her first reaction was actually a desire to raise her hand and smooth out those creases for him. This thought caught her off guard. Her fingertips even lifted slightly before she forcefully restrained herself. Pressing her lips tightly together, she suppressed this inexplicable urge.

“She refuses to talk. For her to open her mouth, she needs specific conditions to be met. And these conditions have something to do with me, right?” Given how urgently Bai Ye had looked for her and his hesitant demeanor, Yun Sheng had already guessed the gist of it.

Bai Ye stayed silent for a moment, a heavy layer of gloom covering his features. He nodded slowly, his voice deep and helpless. “Yes. From the interrogation up until now, she has refused to provide a single piece of useful information. She only said she would talk if she saw you. Yun Sheng, you can go if you want, but it’s okay if you don’t. I’ll think of another way to pry her mouth open.”

Yun Sheng stared at him intently for several seconds before suddenly letting out a soft laugh.

“If General Bai really had another way, you wouldn’t have brought this up to me at all, would you?” She leaned forward slightly, asking with certainty, “Were the people who attacked the hospital this time all silenced?”

If all peripheral clues hadn’t been cut off, Lin Yueyao would absolutely not have become the only breakthrough point, and her confession wouldn’t have become so crucial.

Bai Ye’s expression darkened further. “Yes. Even Zhang Qi committed suicide by taking poison during his escort. Right now, Lin Yueyao is the only person we have left who can help us dig deeper into the clues regarding Dark Nest.”

Hearing that the result was exactly as she had guessed, Yun Sheng spoke decisively, without a shred of hesitation. “Then I will go see her.”

She wanted to uproot the hidden danger that was Dark Nest. Besides, she was also curious about what Lin Yueyao—who had racked her brains to use herself as a bargaining chip to force a meeting—wanted to tell her so badly.

“Then I will schedule a time.”

“Mm, not this afternoon. I have an appointment, but any other time is fine,” Yun Sheng replied immediately. Last time she broke her promise, standing Li Wen and Cheng Nian up. This time, having already agreed to go shopping and have dinner with them, she absolutely couldn’t bail again.

Hearing she had an appointment, Bai Ye’s eyes darkened for a moment before he said, “Alright, I’ll set a time and let you know.”

“Mm.” Yun Sheng nodded slightly and took the opportunity to stand up, planning to leave. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going now.”

But just as she pushed herself off the sofa, before she could even stand steady, Bai Ye grabbed her wrist. His grip was very light, carrying a cautious restraint. He held her wrist loosely, without the slightest hint of coercion.

“Yun Sheng.” Bai Ye’s voice was a bit hoarser than before. His deep eyes were fixed on her face, hiding uncontrollable, fragmented emotions in their depths.

“Hmm?” Yun Sheng looked up in surprise at his voice, her clear eyes meeting his deep gaze directly. This time, she wasn’t in a hurry to pull back the wrist he was lightly holding. Instead, she waited quietly for what he would say next.

The office was so quiet that only the sound of their shallow breathing could be heard, and an ambiguous atmosphere quietly spread.

Bai Ye lowered his eyes to look at their touching wrists, his fingertips tightening imperceptibly by a fraction. “Yun Sheng, once the matters with Lin Yueyao and Dark Nest are over, I’d like to ask you out alone so we can have a proper talk. Is that alright?”
