Chapter 445 - 266: Taboo
Chapter 445: Chapter 266: Taboo
With a crisp CRACK, he shattered the blade of light in his hand.
"It seems someone doesn’t want you to live!"
Fang Yue’s gaze shifted to the window. A figure flashed past and quickly sped away into the distance.
Wang Tong and Li Xi stared at Fang Yue in shock. They had been certain of their deaths, never expecting Fang Yue to resolve the crisis with such ease. Li Xi, in particular, felt a wave of lingering fear. If Fang Yue hadn’t intervened, he and Wang Tong would be dead and buried by now.
"Director Fang, thank you for saving our lives!" Wang Tong and Li Xi said in near unison. Their previous arrogance and insolence were gone, replaced by pure gratitude and awe.
Fang Yue smiled faintly. "No need to thank me. I have some questions for you, too. Now, are you ready to tell me who your mastermind is?"
Wang Tong and Li Xi exchanged a glance, seeing the firm resolve in each other’s eyes.
They knew they had no way out. Their only option was to obediently tell the truth to save their own skins.
Wang Tong took a deep breath, mustering his courage. "Director Fang, it was Lord Liu—Liu Yun—who sent us to test your strength."
"Liu Yun? The Vice Director of the Gongzhou Prefecture Observatory? So it was him!" Fang Yue’s brow twitched.
’This Liu Yun is brazen enough to send people to test me so openly,’ Fang Yue thought to himself. ’It seems he wields considerable power within the Observatory and is full of animosity toward me.’
However, now that he knew who the mastermind was, Fang Yue had a plan.
He smiled faintly and looked at Wang Tong and Li Xi. "Very good. You haven’t disappointed me. You can go now."
Hearing Fang Yue’s words, Wang Tong and Li Xi felt as if they’d received a royal pardon. They never imagined he would let them go so easily.
The two men scrambled to their feet, bowed deeply to Fang Yue, and then hastily left the room.
Watching their retreating figures, a cold smirk played on Fang Yue’s lips.
He knew that since Liu Yun had already sent people to test him, there would surely be more to come.
But he wasn’t worried. He already had a plan.
Fang Yue turned and walked to the window, his profound gaze fixed on the distance.
He knew this struggle was just beginning. There was a long road ahead.
But he wasn’t afraid. He had more than enough strength and wisdom to face any challenge.
~~~~~~~
After leaving the restaurant, Fang Yue easily found the address of the Observatory’s Vice Director, Liu Yun, by asking around town.
"I don’t care what your reasons are for scheming against me. Once I beat you to death, all your little plots will crumble to dust," Fang Yue muttered to himself, his eyes cold and severe.
He had no intention of letting Liu Yun go. He knew that letting a tiger back into the wild would only lead to endless trouble.
Since Liu Yun had already shown his killing intent, Fang Yue had to eradicate the problem at its source to prevent any future repercussions. After finding the address, Fang Yue immediately rushed toward Liu Yun’s residence.
His figure was like a phantom as he weaved through the night, quickly arriving before Liu Yun’s mansion.
The mansion wasn’t overly extravagant, but it exuded an air of dignity and solemnity, a clear sign of its owner’s extraordinary status.
"Who are you? Get lost! Don’t you know where you are? This isn’t a place for the likes of you. Scram now, or we’ll beat the hell out of you!"
Just as he reached the entrance of Liu Yun’s mansion, Fang Yue was stopped by two ferocious-looking guards.
The guards were powerfully built with brutish faces, reeking of bloodlust. It was likely they had more than a few lives on their hands.
However, Fang Yue paid them no mind.
He gave the two guards a placid glance and said slowly, "You blinked your left eye first. You’ve crossed my line. You die."
The moment Fang Yue finished speaking, before the two guards could even react, they felt a sharp, murderous aura wash over them.
They instinctively tried to dodge, but it was too late. Fang Yue’s figure flickered before their eyes like a ghost.
A moment later, they felt a cold sensation on their throats, as if something had sliced across their necks.
THUD! THUD!
With two dull thuds, the guards’ bodies fell to the ground, their eyes still holding the terror and unwillingness of their final moments.
Without a single glance at them, Fang Yue walked straight into Liu Yun’s mansion. He knew these two guards were just small fry; the true mastermind was Liu Yun.
He wanted to see for himself just what this Liu Yun was capable of, that he would dare to test him so brazenly and even try to have him killed.
Although Liu Yun’s mansion wasn’t particularly large, its layout was quite intricate.
"Who are you? How did you get in?"
"He killed the Zhang brothers, Zhang Cheng and Zhang Long! Quick, kill him!"
Soon, the mansion’s guards spotted Fang Yue’s figure darting through Liu Yun’s residence, but despite their numbers, they were utterly useless against him.
With every move he made, a guard fell, yet his form remained fluid and swift, like an unstoppable storm.
"Quick! Go inform Lord Liu!"
One guard shouted in terror, but before the words could leave his mouth, Fang Yue’s palm struck his throat, silencing him forever.
Fang Yue didn’t slow down. He pressed onward, heading straight for Liu Yun’s room.
The throng of guards didn’t slow Fang Yue down. In fact, his pace quickened, and with each step, it was as if an invisible force propelled him forward.
No matter how the guards trying to stop him swung their blades or charged, they couldn’t even touch the hem of his clothes.
In Fang Yue’s eyes, their attacks were like child’s play.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
Following a series of dull thuds, several more guards collapsed to the ground.
Their eyes were filled with terror and disbelief, as if they had witnessed something impossible.
At that moment, Liu Yun’s entire mansion descended into chaos.
The guards’ screams, the thuds of their bodies hitting the floor, and their terrified shouts rose and fell, sounding like a dirge played for Fang Yue’s arrival.
But Fang Yue seemed oblivious to it all. His eyes were fixed only on the tightly shut door ahead.
He knew that was his destination—and the beginning of unraveling this whole mystery.
Finally, Fang Yue reached the door. He took a deep breath and violently kicked it open.
BANG!
With a loud bang, the door was kicked open by Fang Yue, revealing everything inside the room.
Inside, a middle-aged man in a brocade robe was sitting at a desk, a cup of hot tea still in his hand as if he were savoring its aroma.
However, the moment the door was kicked open, the calm on his face was instantly replaced by terror.
"Who... who are you? What do you want?" Liu Yun stammered, his eyes filled with fear and unease.
Fang Yue smiled faintly and slowly walked into the room. His eyes swept over Liu Yun before he said placidly, "Lord Liu, no need to panic. I just came here to have a chat."
"A chat? What is there for us to talk about?" Liu Yun said, feigning composure, but his trembling voice betrayed his inner fear.
Fang Yue walked up to Liu Yun and said slowly, "Let’s talk about why you sent people to test me, and why you want me dead."
Hearing this, Liu Yun’s face turned deathly pale. He knew he’d been exposed and could no longer hide the truth.
He swallowed nervously, trying to calm his fear, but his body trembled uncontrollably.
He stared wide-eyed at Fang Yue, as if searching for a crack in his composure, but Fang Yue’s calm, profound gaze sent a chill through his heart.
"You... how did you know?" Liu Yun asked, his voice trembling.
Fang Yue smiled faintly. "If you don’t want anyone to know, then don’t do it in the first place. Lord Liu, did you really think you could hide what you’ve done from everyone? You’re wrong. There’s no such thing as a foolproof plan, and there are no secrets that can be kept forever."
