Eternal Life: I Can Harvest Demon Beast Talents

Chapter 286 - 204: New Talent, First Talisman Treasure

Bai Hengwan revealed part of the truth.

"So that's how it is."

Lin Changheng still didn't commit to anything.

Just as when he had sought the Essence Blood of the Cyan Rain Mist Toad last time, Lin Changheng intended to make Bai Hengwan work for it again.

She was well aware of this. Given the urgency of the matter, she adapted and went straight to making an offer. "I wonder, now that three years have passed, what has become of Alchemist Lin's need for the Cyan Rain Mist Toad's Essence Blood? Do you still require it?"

"Hm?"

Lin Changheng nodded. "I do indeed still need the Essence Blood of the Cyan Rain Mist Toad. The more, the better."

"But isn't that blood for Bai Zhenchuan's Body Refining? How could I be so shameless as to snatch away something you need?"

As he spoke, Lin Changheng deliberately put on a slightly sheepish expression.

"If Alchemist Lin needs it, I suppose I could part with it. After all, there are plenty of other Medicinal Materials for Body Refining in this world. I'm sure I can find a substitute."

Bai Hengwan gazed at Lin Changheng, her red lips pursed slightly as she spoke.

"In that case, I suppose I can be persuaded to overcome a few difficulties."

Lin Changheng nodded, then another thought occurred to him. "About the reward from the Immortal City last time... I wonder, will there be a similar arrangement this time?"

'If I'm going to accept, I might as well fight for more benefits.'

"No."

Bai Hengwan's eyes widened slightly, taken aback by his question. Seeing the look of disappointment that instantly crossed his face, she felt the situation had become rather tricky.

'It's usually not a problem to pay someone enough for their services, but the Immortal City really didn't promise any funds this time. I have plenty of resources on me, but I urgently need them all for myself...'

Seeing he couldn't squeeze anything more out of her, Lin Changheng dropped the matter. "If there's nothing, then so be it. I couldn't possibly ask Bai Zhenchuan to pay out of her own pocket, could I?"

He said this with a magnanimous smile.

Bai Hengwan immediately felt that Alchemist Lin wasn't so unreasonable after all. She started to see him in a much more favorable light.

Just as she was about to thank him, a thought suddenly struck her. "Actually, I do have something on hand that might be of use to you, Alchemist Lin. That is... if you wouldn't turn your nose up at it..."

"Oh?"

Lin Changheng was immediately interested. 'A starved camel is still bigger than a horse,' he thought. 'Something from a True Inheritance disciple of the Immortal City might actually be useful to me.' "Of course not," he said. "I would be nothing but grateful."

He watched as she swiped a hand over the Storage Bag at her waist and produced a long, rectangular, yellow Talisman, which she held in her jade-like palm.

"This is..."

Lin Changheng couldn't get a clear look with his eyes, so he immediately swept his Divine Sense over it. He found that it was unlike any of the common Tier One or Tier Two Talismans.

It bore no familiar Runes, and it was several times thicker than a normal talisman.

In the center of the Talisman, a single small sword was inscribed. It was so lifelike one could almost sense a profound power concealed within. When his Divine Sense inadvertently brushed against it, he felt a faint, sharp prickling sensation.

Lin Changheng drew in a sharp breath. He might never have owned one, or even seen one used, but that didn't mean he hadn't heard of their legendary name and characteristics from books and hearsay!

The answer was on the tip of his tongue. "Is this a Talisman Treasure?"

"That's right. This is a Talisman Treasure."

Seeing that Lin Changheng's expression was no longer so calm and nonchalant, she felt a sense of satisfaction. "I seem to recall Alchemist Lin mentioning that your Magical Combat abilities are lacking, which is why you're so cautious and conceal your identity, is it not?"

"As it happens, I have this spare Talisman Treasure on hand. Why don't I give it to you, Alchemist Lin? It might just save your life in a critical moment, and that would be a fine thing indeed."

"However, this Talisman Treasure doesn't have much power left. I'm afraid it can only be used once. I wonder if it still meets Alchemist Lin's standards?"

Bai Hengwan didn't stop, laying out all the pros and cons quite clearly.

"Thank you, Bai Zhenchuan. I am truly in need of something like this. How could I possibly look down on it?"

Lin Changheng nodded solemnly and cupped his hands in thanks.

With a nod, Bai Hengwan used her Magical Power to gently float the Talisman Treasure over to Lin Changheng, who accepted it with utmost care.

He looked down at it with curiosity, instantly infatuated. He couldn't bear to put it down.

A Talisman Treasure, one must understand, is a special kind of Talisman. It is created when a Cultivator at the Core Formation Stage or higher uses a special technique to extract ten to twenty percent of a Magical Treasure's power and Seal it onto a blank Talisman.

Even Qi Cultivation cultivators and Foundation Establishment cultivators can use them.

However, this forced extraction causes irreversible damage to the Magical Treasure. Normally, even if the Magical Treasure is taken back into the owner's body to be nurtured, it can never be fully restored.

Therefore, they are mostly created through Refining by Cultivators who are approaching the end of their lifespan, to be passed down to beloved children or disciples for their protection.

Once activated, it can threaten even a Late Stage Foundation Establishment cultivator!

It was the ultimate life-saving treasure!

When it was in Bai Hengwan's hands, Lin Changheng couldn't properly examine it. Now that he held it himself, he discovered that the Talisman Treasure's aura was indeed unstable and its Spiritual Light was dim, as if it could flicker out of existence at any moment.

'Even if I can only use it once, that's enough!'

Having grown accustomed to a hard-knock life, Lin Changheng wasn't one to be picky. He gleefully stored it away.

He then looked at Bai Hengwan and said solemnly, "You can leave this matter to me. I will give it my all and spare no effort. However, as for the specific outcome..."

"As long as you do your best, that's all I ask. I'm not expecting a perfect outcome."

A smile bloomed on Bai Hengwan's face. If he had puffed out his chest and guaranteed success, she would have found him less believable.

"I understand. If I cannot complete the task, I will have no right to ask for the Essence Blood."

One feels indebted after accepting a gift. With this, Lin Changheng was making a solemn pledge.

"Good. Then I will await your good news, Alchemist Lin."

The two chatted for a while longer. Now bound by mutual benefit, their rapport naturally improved, and they even shared a few laughs.

Finally, with both sides satisfied, Lin Changheng took his leave, riding away on a beam of Escape Light.
