Chapter 3789: Fame
Chapter 3789: Fame
Alex flew away with Riftblade, moving to the large building in the distance where he could feel several Divine realm auras from.
"What is this place?" he asked, quite curious.
"This is the control hub for the secret realm," the man answered. "We keep watch on everything from here. And if it needs a Divinity to interfere, we send one."
"Oh!"
Alex looked around the place, somewhat taken aback. He hadn’t expected such a place to exist outside, but he should have known.
"Are the other Divinities still here?" he asked. "I mean the ones from the other cults."
"Some are, but most have left," Riftblade said. "Why do you ask?"
"I was just curious," Alex said.
He remembered several Divinities from the first year, such as the Storm God’s cult member that he had been forced to interact with at one point. He wondered what the man would do if they were to meet again, but it appeared the man had likely left already.
"I kept an eye on you whenever I could, and I could tell you were doing great. So, can I ask why you left this early?" Riftblade asked. "I don’t want to reveal how much the others had, but I can say that you were definitely winning the whole thing."
Alex smiled a little. "It was never my intention to stay inside. I came for the whole thing because I needed to look after my daughter. It was an opportunity to spend time with my family, so I did. After they left, I wanted to leave, but Ronron made me stay for an extra few years after giving me an assignment before she left."
Riftblade nodded. "Does that have something to do with the constant Sun God claims you’ve been making?" he asked.
Alex laughed slightly and nodded.
"Even so, why leave?" Riftblade asked. "As I said, you could have just stayed for 15 more years and won the whole thing."
Alex shrugged. "I probably could have, but then what? As far as I understand, there is no actual reward here, is there? It’s mostly a popularity contest. The one who wins the whole thing is considered the best of all."
"That’s just how this is set up this time around," Riftblade said. "Does that mean you didn’t want to be famous?"
Alex slowed for a few steps, turning to look at the Divinity. "Senior, do you know who my biggest obstacles are at the moment in life?" he asked.
Riftblade paused as well and shook his head. "Who?"
"The Storm God and the Fire God," Alex said. "One wants to imprison me for life so no one else may ever find me again. The other one no doubt will want to kill me the moment he realizes I exist. Given that I have two Half-Gods who are targeting me, how much more popularity would I really need?"
Riftblade didn’t have anything to say to that. He simply watched with a blank expression, realizing that Alex was correct.
Alex turned. "Not to mention, the Alchemy tournament gave me more fame than this could. And a millennium from now, you’ll hear about me again when I go to the Godkiller’s tomb. I have a feeling some big things are going to happen when I go there."
Riftblade could only blink for a few seconds before following Alex inside.
Several Divinities looked at him, but none approached with Riftblade right next to him.
"So, where are the three?" Alex asked.
"Ronron and the other two? They’ve already returned to the palace," Riftblade said.
Alex stopped. "Already? I thought they would be waiting for me."
"Your mother and aunt waited for Junior Sister, but once she was out, they realized that they would have to be waiting years for you to come out again. So, they decided to give up on waiting for you."
Alex supposed that was the right thing to do there. He wouldn’t want them to be waiting for him anyway.
"Ah, could I ask what is happening with Battlesage, the Senior we were with?" Alex asked.
"The old man came out a while ago as well, long before any of the rest of you came out, actually. I asked if he wanted to return to the palace instead of waiting for you, but he said he instead wanted to go roam the cities and other places," Riftblade said.
Alex raised an eyebrow. "He came out so early? Surely he could have lasted much longer. Did he get unlucky, perhaps?"
"I think he got bored," Riftblade said with a light chuckle. "The constant challenging and being challenged can only remain fresh for so long when all you’re doing is holding back every time. The old man seemed relieved to be out at that time."
Alex could imagine how that was true. It was hard to be entertained by the same thing for a decade and longer. He could only stay inside because of his responsibility and promise. The moment both were gone, he had given away the leading spot and left as well.
"I understand how he feels," Alex said. "In that case, I suppose I have nothing else to do here then."
Riftblade nodded. "I wouldn’t mind if you wanted to sit around and watch how the rest of the secret realm goes, but I don’t suppose you will be wanting that."
Alex shook his head. "Thank you for the offer, but I will be leaving."
The man understood. "I will have someone take you to the teleportation formation. But before that, may I ask how you defeated the Divinity? That final attack you did, it was... powerful. Did you..."
His next words were a whisper.
"Did you use your Primordial energy?"
Alex laughed and shook his head. "Not a single bit of it. I was tempted, but luckily, I didn’t need it."
"Then..."
"I will keep the how to myself for now, Senior," Alex said. "I can’t reveal everything, can I?"
"Of course," Riftblade said as he nodded. "Let’s get you back to the palace then."
