Chapter 3745: Delayed
Three people, one man and two women, left the canyon and walked in the direction where Alex was. Alex remained invisible and concealed himself for some time before the group got close.
As they came closer, he noticed that their cultivation bases were average at best. Two Immortal Origin realm cultivators, and one Immortal Transcendent 2nd realm cultivator. It was hardly an elite group.
As they walked thoughtlessly, hoping to get to the rock structure soon, Alex finally showed himself to them and picked the strongest of the group.
"Hey, I would like to challenge you."
The woman who had been challenged nearly jumped out of surprise. The others were taken aback as well since Alex had appeared out of nowhere.
"Who are you?" the man asked.
"Does it matter?" Alex asked. "I’m challenging her."
The other two looked toward the woman. "Just give up. We don’t have time for this."
The woman nodded. "I concede," she said and handed over the star.
Alex took it and then turned to the man. He was a little stronger than the woman, but he too chose to concede immediately. If he was going to get 5 stars in a few minutes soon, he saw it fit to give up as quickly as possible.
He handed a star to Alex and quickly moved on.
Alex turned toward the final woman. "I challenge you as well."
The woman had some time to think about what she wanted to do when challenged. Considering their cultivation bases, it was clear that she was weaker than Alex, but that didn’t stop her from accepting the challenge. All she had to do was ignore strength and take part in a game of chance instead.
"Alright, I accept," she said. "I want the challenge to be about chance. We flip something and choose which side lands. Whoever chooses correctly wins."
It was a simple challenge that would take no more than a few seconds to be done, and also gave her a good chance to win as well.
"Very well," Alex said, accepting the challenge.
The woman brought out something from her Soul Space, one of the many stars she had, and lightly painted one side with her blood. She tossed the star to Alex to check it for fairness.
Alex nodded. "Looks fine. I’ll choose the blood side."
"I will let you toss it then," the woman said.
Alex accepted it and threw the star into the air. It spun on its own high, completely without anyone’s intervention, and landed randomly on the side without the blood.
The woman grinned slightly.
She had gotten a star for something so simple. She took the star from the sand and took another star from Alex. Her broad smile made the other two who had lost frown slightly, but there was nothing they could do. They should have thought of something quick and simple like this too.
"What the hell are you guys doing here?" a voice called, causing the three to turn around.
Behind them were two men, each in the Immortal Origin realm.
The woman looked at the men. "We should be asking that. What are you doing here?"
Before the man could answer, Alex turned toward him. "Hey, I challenge you."
The man turned, staring at Alex. Sensing his cultivation base, he was about to refuse, but Alex stopped him.
"Before you decide to give up since you’ve seen my strength, I should suggest that you do what this woman did," Alex told the man.
The man turned toward the woman. "What did you do?"
The woman shrugged and explained her challenge based on luck. Hearing that, the man was intrigued and accepted the same challenge. Alex happily allowed the man to hold the same challenge as the woman.
So, the man brought out a star of his own and handed it to Alex to check. He even allowed Alex to flip it.
Alex flipped the star and this time, it landed on the side he chose.
"Yes!" he said softly in excitement and turned toward the man. "Pay up."
The man grumbled slightly and shook his head. "Take the star."
Alex picked the star off the ground and kept it away. He then turned to the other man and challenged him as well. Realizing he had a chance, the man accepted the same challenge.
Soon, a star flipped through the air and landed on the sand.
Alex lost.
"Well, here’s your star," Alex said, handing back the same bloody star he had won earlier.
The man kept the star.
"Are you done?" the woman from before asked. "Can we go now?"
"Go?" the man asked. "You haven’t gone yet?"
"Obviously not!" the woman shouted. "You delayed us."
"How could we have delayed you? We only came because you didn’t return," the man said.
The woman was about to speak when someone else spoke at the same time.
"What the hell is going on here?" a completely new voice spoke up.
Everyone turned to find a group of three standing behind them, with the strongest there being a man in the Immortal Spirit 1st realm.
"Senior Brother Wangju," the woman called out. The other men also called him as such.
The man looked at the group. "Why are you standing around here in the middle of the desert?" he asked.
"We’re not. We were just being challenged," the woman said. "We are done with it now though."
"No, we’re not," Alex said, now looking toward the newcomer. "I challenge you."
The man stared at Alex, trying to discern what he could about him. "You challenge me?" he asked.
Alex nodded.
The man let out a slight laugh. "Have you gone mad? Can you not sense how much stronger I am?"
Alex shrugged. "Doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to challenge you, am I?"
"No, it doesn’t," the man said, chuckling slightly. "Fine, I’ll accept your challenge. But that also means I get to choose what challenge it is."
Alex nodded.
"Go ahead. Give me the worst you’ve got."
