Chapter 742 - 363: Probably Slept In
Chapter 742: Chapter 363: Probably Slept In
"Absolutely not!"
Li Chang’an’s tone was calm.
"This is the preparation phase. No slacking off is allowed!"
"Alright, alright, I give up!"
Sun Yang sighed with a look of despair.
"I knew I’d joined the Devil Squad!"
"Enough nonsense. Let’s go get lunch."
Li Chang’an glanced at him, then turned and walked toward the exit.
"Assemble on time this afternoon. Don’t be late!"
At lunchtime, the cafeteria was buzzing with noise. The base’s soldiers sat in twos and threes, chatting about their training and missions.
When Li Chang’an walked in with his tray, his eyes swept across the room, and he quickly found an empty table.
He put his tray down and turned to look at the team members behind him.
"Find a spot!"
Li Chang’an called out before lowering his head and starting to eat.
Han Ruoxi followed him, sat down with her tray, and started complaining as she shoveled rice into her mouth.
"Today’s food is the same old stuff. Nothing new.
Don’t you guys think the food at the base is getting more and more monotonous?"
"What’s wrong with monotonous? As long as it fills you up, it’s fine!"
Shen Qiuyue sat down beside them with her tray, elegantly cutting the meat on her plate.
"This is a military base, not a five-star restaurant. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to eat it!"
"Eldest Miss Shen, I never said I wasn’t going to eat!"
Han Ruoxi rolled her eyes.
"I was just complaining a little. Don’t be so serious!"
"Can you talk less nonsense?"
Shen Qiuyue said flatly.
"Fine, fine, fine, I’ll shut up!"
Han Ruoxi lowered her head and continued eating, still mumbling something under her breath.
Just then, Sun Yang came over carrying a huge plate of food, plopped down, and immediately took a bite out of a chicken leg.
"Hey, I think it’s not bad. It’s way better than nutrient blocks, anyway.
You guys just haven’t eaten anything truly hard to swallow!"
"You sure seem to be enjoying your food!"
Han Ruoxi glanced up at him.
"Aren’t you worried you’ll eat too much and feel bloated during afternoon training?"
"This is called storing up Energy, got it?"
Sun Yang said indistinctly, his mouth full of food.
"With the intensity of this afternoon’s training, how could I not eat a lot? Don’t you guys be jealous of me!"
"Jealous of what?"
Han Ruoxi was speechless.
"Just keep eating. Let’s see if you can even run later!"
"Don’t worry, I have great stamina!"
Sun Yang grinned and picked up another piece of meat to gnaw on.
Bai Lin was the last to arrive. After sitting down with his tray, he took a bite, then looked up at Li Chang’an.
"Captain, do we need to adjust the afternoon drill? This morning’s simulation data had some deviations. I’m recalculating it now!"
"No adjustments needed,"
Li Chang’an said lightly.
"Proceed according to the original plan. The main goal is to get them familiar with the procedure."
"Understood!"
Bai Lin nodded and went back to eating.
The meal ended amidst idle chatter and focused eating.
After they finished, they cleaned up briefly and returned to their own rooms for a short rest.
At two in the afternoon, the training grounds activated once again.
Li Chang’an stood in the center of the field, looking at his team members, his voice steady.
"Same groups as this morning, but this time the simulation scenario will have added randomness. You’ll need to be more focused.
Begin!"
The simulation training began again. The terrain was more complex than in the morning, with fissures and overgrown areas everywhere. The number of Insect Race models had also clearly increased.
Sun Yang and Han Ruoxi were in charge of the western sector. Sun Yang complained as he walked.
"This terrain is such a death trap, isn’t it? You could misstep at any moment. I seriously doubt how these bugs could even survive in a place like this!"
"Shut up!"
Han Ruoxi hissed in a low voice.
"Don’t forget we’re on a simulated recon mission. Being too loud will give away our position!"
"This isn’t a real battle. What’s there to be afraid of?"
Sun Yang was dismissive, but he lowered his voice slightly.
"But speaking of which, if we really ran into the Insect Race in a place like this, what would our chances of winning be?"
"Don’t ask me!"
Han Ruoxi stared at the terrain ahead, arcs of electricity occasionally flashing from her hands.
"The Captain said we don’t fight if we don’t have to.
We just need to scout and report back for the support troops to handle!"
"Alright, then. You keep an eye out, and I’ll cover you!"
Sun Yang casually adjusted his Pulse Gun.
"But if any Insect Race models charge us, don’t expect me to jump in front of you!"
"Are you even a man?"
Han Ruoxi shot him a glare over her shoulder.
"If you won’t charge in at a critical moment, what good are you to the team?"
"I’m just kidding!"
Sun Yang laughed and waved his hand.
"Just trying to give you a little motivation! Don’t take it seriously!"
On the other side, Shen Qiuyue and Bai Lin’s group was much quieter.
Shen Qiuyue took the lead, her movements decisive and crisp, while Bai Lin followed behind, constantly recording data.
He looked up at Shen Qiuyue and asked in a low voice,
"Do you think there will be any variables in this recon mission?"
"Definitely,"
Shen Qiuyue answered without turning her head.
"No mission is ever completely safe, especially with the Insect Race. Their behavior is complex, and the uncertainties are too great!"
"Then should we make some emergency preparations in advance?"
Bai Lin asked.
"Just focus on providing the data. Leave the rest to the Captain’s arrangements!"
Shen Qiuyue said coldly.
"We just need to do our part!"
Bai Lin nodded and said no more, focusing again on the terminal in his hands.
The entire training session lasted for two hours.
After the simulation ended, the group gathered again in the center of the field. Li Chang’an walked over, his gaze sweeping over each of them.
"Your overall performance was a bit better than this morning, but there are still plenty of problems!
Sun Yang, Han Ruoxi, your coordination needs improvement.
On a recon mission, everyone must completely trust their teammates. No disagreements are allowed!"
"Got it!"
Han Ruoxi nodded.
"Understood!"
Sun Yang scratched his head, looking a little guilty.
"Shen Qiuyue and Bai Lin, your data collection efficiency is good, but you need better synergy in your actions!"
Li Chang’an continued.
"Especially you, Bai Lin. You need to learn to adapt better to the battlefield environment!"
"I’ll work on it!"
Bai Lin pushed up his glasses.
"Dismissed!"
Li Chang’an waved his hand.
"Go back and rest."
「Several days passed.」
"Get up! Isn’t Instructor Wei Zhuang holding some kind of tactical drill today?"
Sun Yang’s voice, still heavy with sleep, came from another bed.
"Cut the crap and get dressed.
Yesterday, you were the slowest to eat, and the instructor called you out for it. Just try holding us back again today!"
Shen Qiuyue was already sitting up, moving quickly.
"What are you two arguing about? What time is it? I’m not even awake yet..."
Han Ruoxi mumbled, clutching her head.
"Keep sleeping, and you’ll be the one the instructor chews out during roll call!"
Li Chang’an walked into the dorm, glancing at everyone.
"Five minutes to assemble. Move it if you don’t want to be punished!"
Everyone immediately fell silent and began scrambling to get their things together.
"Captain, are we doing a combat simulation today, or are we continuing with theory lessons?"
Bai Lin, wearing his glasses, asked while adjusting a small device.
"Instructor Wei Zhuang said today is a team coordination drill. It’ll probably be adversarial!"
Li Chang’an fastened the Saw Chain Sword at his waist, his voice calm.
"Everyone be careful. That instructor doesn’t know how to pull his punches!"
"I’ve had enough. Is this any way to live? Daily training is one thing, but now this kind of twisted assessment!"
Sun Yang grumbled as he slung his Pulse Gun over his back.
"If you don’t like it, you can go argue with the instructor!"
Shen Qiuyue retorted coldly.
"Argue? Do I look like I have a death wish?"
Sun Yang rolled his eyes and fell in line behind the team as he walked.
On the training grounds, Instructor Wei Zhuang was already standing there, holding a training schedule.
When he saw the Insect Hunter Squad arrive two minutes late, his brow furrowed.
"Insect Hunter Squad! Did you not hear the assembly horn, or do you think you’re so special that you don’t have to be on time anymore?"
Instructor Wei Zhuang’s voice was as booming as ever.
"Reporting, Instructor! We were delayed on the way. It’s my responsibility!"
Li Chang’an immediately stepped forward.
"Very good. The Captain takes responsibility!"
Wei Zhuang sneered.
"However, rules are rules. The whole team was late, so the whole team gets punished! Start with ten laps around the field!"
