Chapter 663 - 324: She Just Wants to See Us Make Fools of Ourselves
Chapter 663: Chapter 324: She Just Wants to See Us Make Fools of Ourselves
"Commander Liu has ’high hopes’ for us, which is a nice way of saying she’s using us as free labor!"
"’Special training,’ my ass!"
Han Ruoxi rolled her eyes.
"She just wants to see us make fools of ourselves! Didn’t you hear her? Every time she says ’room for improvement,’ her tone makes it obvious she looks down on us!"
"Hehe, to be honest, I did embarrass myself a little today!"
Sun Yang scratched his head, embarrassed.
"Especially that first bug that crawled out of the pipe. I was so scared I almost dropped my gun!"
"Almost dropped it? You flat-out missed!"
Han Ruoxi called him out without a shred of mercy.
"You fired three shots, and only one grazed that thing’s leg!"
"Don’t rub salt in the wound, Ruo Xi! You’re ruthless!"
Sun Yang grimaced.
"Can’t you give a guy a break?"
"Nope, absolutely not!"
Han Ruoxi huffed.
"I have to keep an eye on you so you don’t screw up on the next mission!"
Shen Qiuyue sat in a chair on the other side of the room, her legs crossed, sipping a cup of tea.
Hearing their conversation, she interjected coolly.
"Can you two quiet down a little? It’s been a long day, and I just want to rest!"
"Sister Shen, you’ve got it all wrong!"
Sun Yang immediately turned to her with a sycophantic smile.
"We’re just exchanging tactical experiences. How can you call that being noisy? Besides, tactical discussions are key to improving team synergy!"
"Improving team synergy?"
Shen Qiuyue glanced at him and said coldly.
"What synergy can you improve with all this nonsense? All I see is you spouting crap!"
"Ouch, Sister Shen, that hurts!"
Sun Yang clutched his chest with a wounded expression.
"I’m making a huge sacrifice for the sake of team building here!"
"Cut the act!"
Shen Qiuyue couldn’t be bothered with him anymore and turned to Li Chang’an.
"Captain, aren’t you going to say something? If they keep this up, they’ll just make a joke of themselves in training tomorrow."
Li Chang’an had been leaning back on the sofa, resting with his eyes closed. Only when Shen Qiuyue called him out did he slowly open them.
He stretched and said lazily.
"Can you all quiet down for a bit? Otherwise, I’ll send you back to the training grounds for twenty laps right now!"
"No, don’t! Captain!"
Sun Yang immediately jumped to his feet, waving his hands and begging for mercy.
"I was wrong! I’ll shut up! I won’t say another word!"
"Good, as long as you know you were wrong."
Li Chang’an said casually, closing his eyes again.
Han Ruoxi couldn’t help but laugh.
"The Captain really is your kryptonite. He only needs to say one thing to shut you up!"
"Of course!"
Sun Yang said with a straight face.
"Captain Li is my idol. How could I dare go against his wishes?"
"Idol? Don’t put the Captain on such a high pedestal. Be careful, or he might actually make you run those laps!"
Han Ruoxi said with a smile.
"Then I’d better shut up!"
Sun Yang plopped back down on the sofa, picked up another skewer, and started gnawing on it with a satisfied look on his face.
"Forget it. No more talking. Eating is what’s important!"
Meanwhile, Bai Lin was sitting at a small table nearby, holding a terminal screen and appearing to study something.
He hadn’t participated in their conversation, but his eyes showed a sliver of intense focus.
"Bai Lin, what are you doing?"
Han Ruoxi leaned in and asked curiously.
"Looking at the data from today’s mission!"
Bai Lin answered without looking up.
"The Insect Race’s behavior patterns are a bit strange. I’m analyzing their movements."
"Strange? What’s so strange about it?"
Sun Yang asked, his words muffled by the piece of meat in his mouth.
"Normally, the Insect Race’s scout units don’t operate independently for long!"
Bai Lin said slowly.
"But the bugs we encountered today seem to have found a hiding spot on their own and stayed there for a long time.
This doesn’t match their standard combat patterns!"
"Are you saying they have another objective?"
Li Chang’an opened his eyes, his tone turning serious.
"It’s a possibility!"
Bai Lin nodded.
"But it needs further confirmation.
The base’s reconnaissance satellites may have already captured more information. I plan to pull the data tomorrow!"
"Confirm it as soon as you can. If there’s a problem, tell me immediately!"
Li Chang’an said.
"Understood!"
Bai Lin nodded and went back to his research.
After a short break, Han Ruoxi suddenly remembered something and slapped her thigh.
"Oh, right! Sun Yang, you said you’d treat us to a late-night snack. Don’t play dead!"
"Huh? What late-night snack?"
Sun Yang played dumb, his eyes darting around.
"Stop playing dumb!"
Han Ruoxi grabbed him by the collar.
"You said it yourself, ’If I don’t perform well today, I’ll treat everyone to a late-night snack.’ You said it with your own mouth, and now you’re trying to get out of it?"
"Hey now, Ruo Xi, I did okay today, right? You can’t say I was terrible, can you?"
Sun Yang whined.
"Besides, the late-night snacks at the base are nothing special. Let’s just eat these skewers. No need to spend money on the expensive stuff!"
"Dream on!"
Han Ruoxi glared at him.
"I want ice cream, a large one! And you have to buy that fruit tea Sister Shen likes!"
"Fruit tea? What is wrong with you people? I’m just treating you to a late-night snack, and you have to make it so complicated..." Sun Yang was on the verge of tears, but he nodded in resignation anyway.
"Fine, fine, I’ll buy it, alright? Just my luck!"
"That’s more like it!"
Han Ruoxi let him go smugly and turned to Shen Qiuyue.
"Sister Shen, when Sun Yang gets back with the snacks, we’re going to have a feast!"
