Chapter 597 - 291: Setting Up the Electric Grid Defense Line
Chapter 597: Chapter 291: Setting Up the Electric Grid Defense Line
"It was you, but you took out my Electric Grid while you were laying down suppressive fire!"
Han Ruoxi replied coldly.
"That was an accident, wasn’t it?"
Sun Yang said with an innocent look on his face, "We’re all about teamwork and cooperation here. Don’t get hung up on the little things!"
Shen Qiuyue, sitting off to the side, glanced up at them. "Alright, stop arguing. The vehicle is almost there.
Stay quiet and focus!"
"You hear that?"
Li Chang’an knocked on the vehicle’s wall. "Get your weapons ready. No more dawdling!"
Sun Yang immediately raised his Pulse Gun and struck a cool pose. "Don’t worry, I’m ready to go!"
Han Ruoxi rolled her eyes and looked down to check her Electric Core.
Bai Lin sat silently in the corner, holding a portable terminal and checking the data. "There are signs of Insect Race activity within a three-kilometer radius ahead. The signal is unstable. It’s probably one of their jammers."
"A jammer?"
Li Chang’an frowned. "Can you pinpoint its location?"
"Not yet!"
Bai Lin said in a low voice, "Once we get closer, I can try to hack into their signal network!"
"Then let’s get closer!"
Li Chang’an slapped the console next to the driver’s seat. "Faster. Let’s get this over with."
The war chariot stopped on a patch of high ground. The Insect Hunter Squad quickly disembarked and began dividing up tasks.
"Han Ruoxi, set up the Electric Grid perimeter.
Shen Qiuyue, you’re on outer reconnaissance.
Sun Yang, be ready to provide fire support.
Bai Lin, start locating that jammer.
I’ll draw their attention!"
Li Chang’an said, drawing his Saw Chain Sword as he assigned the roles.
"Captain, this Insect Hive is huge. Just the five of us... isn’t this a little risky?"
Sun Yang muttered under his breath, holding his Pulse Gun.
"Of course it’s risky!"
Li Chang’an smiled. "But we’re Insect Hunters. Risk is our job. No more talk. Move out!"
The battle started quickly.
There weren’t many members of the Insect Race on the periphery, but their numbers and speed were not to be underestimated.
"Three fast mutants on the left! Watch out!"
Han Ruoxi shouted the warning from the rear as she controlled the Electric Grid.
"Leave them to me!"
Sun Yang raised his Pulse Gun and took down the three mutants in an instant with a burst of precise shots.
"More in the rear!"
Shen Qiuyue yelled, her Dueling Sword flashing from its sheath as she lopped off the head of another insect.
"Bai Lin, have you found the jammer?"
Li Chang’an asked while swinging his sword to kill another member of the Insect Race.
"Locking on now. About two more minutes!"
Bai Lin’s eyes were fixed on the terminal screen, his fingers flying across it.
"Hurry up, we can’t hold out for much longer!"
Li Chang’an yelled, spinning around and forcefully kicking away an insect that was ambushing him.
The battle gradually reached a fever pitch. The number of insects seemed endless, and the squad was starting to struggle.
"Bai Lin, stop dragging your feet! If you don’t get it done, we’re all going to die here!"
Sun Yang roared as he fired, sweat dripping from his chin.
"Almost there!"
Bai Lin muttered in reply, his fingers suddenly stopping. "Done! The jammer is fifty meters straight ahead!"
"Han Ruoxi, destroy the jammer! Sun Yang, cover her!"
Li Chang’an gave the order swiftly, leading the squad forward in a charge.
Han Ruoxi focused Electric Energy into her palm. A bolt of Lightning shot out and struck the target, and the jammer exploded instantly. The movements of the Insect Race clearly became chaotic.
"Mop up! Finish them quickly!"
Li Chang’an commanded loudly, his Saw Chain Sword slicing through an insect’s chest as blood splattered everywhere.
Ten minutes later, the last insect fell, and the squad could finally catch their breath.
"That was exhausting!"
Sun Yang plopped down on the ground. "If the outskirts of the Insect Hive are like this, won’t the inside be a death trap?"
"All that matters is the mission’s complete!"
Han Ruoxi wiped the sweat from her forehead, a hint of relief in her voice.
"Don’t relax just yet!"
Li Chang’an remained standing, warily scanning his surroundings. "Be ready to pull out. Insect Race reinforcements could arrive at any moment!"
The war chariot rumbled toward the extraction point. Inside, the members of the Insect Hunter Squad were all exhausted, but their spirits were still high.
"Hey, did it feel like there were way more bugs on the outskirts of this Insect Hive? Even tougher than in the last training simulation!"
Sun Yang leaned against the vehicle’s wall, raising his sleeve to wipe the grime from his face. "We completed the mission, after all. We should get a bigger bonus when we get back, right?"
"A bonus?"
Han Ruoxi rolled her eyes. "How many bonuses is your life worth? If we’d run into the main Insect Race hive, I doubt you would’ve even made it out alive!"
"Miss Han, your words wound me!"
Sun Yang clutched his chest dramatically. "I performed so well this time! My suppressive fire was rock-solid, and you’re still finding fault!"
"You only performed well because I laid out the Electric Grid. If I hadn’t restricted the bugs’ movements, your firepower would’ve been useless, no matter how intense!"
Han Ruoxi retorted with a sneer, "Besides, you need to work on your accuracy. You almost hit me!"
"Hey, that was an accident!"
Sun Yang waved his hand dismissively. "Besides, you all saw it, right? That last tough wave—how long did I hold them off by myself?"
"It wouldn’t have mattered how long you held out. You were never the Insect Race’s primary target!"
Shen Qiuyue interjected calmly from the side, "They were chasing Li Chang’an. If he hadn’t tied up the swarm, we would’ve been surrounded long ago!"
Sun Yang froze, turning to look at Li Chang’an. "Captain, is that true? They were coming for you?"
"More or less."
Li Chang’an replied casually while wiping down his Saw Chain Sword. "The Insect Race is intelligent. They know to prioritize the most dangerous target.
I suspect they’re starting to learn the combat patterns of Insect Hunters!"
"That’s not good!"
Sun Yang slapped his thigh. "Doesn’t that mean they’ll target you every time you’re on the battlefield from now on? Our Captain has it rough!"
